BOX ASSIGNMENTS

2011 WEST REGION CHAMPIONSHIPSCLAREMONT, CALIFORNIA

In 2011 the DIII West Region Championships were hosted by Occidental College. On the women’s side Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won the team title and Annie Lydens of Pomona-Pitzer was the individual champion. Colorado College shared the men’s title with Occidental College and Jackson Brainerd of Colorado College was the men’s individual champion.

2012 MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIPThe battle for the men’s team championship should come down to Claremont, Willamette and Pomona-Pitzer. Claremont, which is ranked 10th nationally, won the SCIAC by a narrow margin of just 6 points over Pomona. Willamette handily beat Lewis & Clark at the NWC Championships. Parker Bennett (Willamette) and Rafer Dannenhauer (CMS) are two of the favorites for the

individual title, but Alex Johnson (Pomona) and Nick Hall (Colorado) will also be in the hunt. Alan DenAdel (PLU) and Matt Klein (UPS) also will be in the mix.

CURRENT REGIONAL RANKINGS1. CMS (10th nationally) Claremont, Calif. SCIAC2. Willamette (28th nationally) Salem, Ore. NWC3. Pomona-Pitzer Claremont, Calif. SCIAC4. Lewis & Clark Portland, Ore. NWC5. Puget Sound Tacoma, Wash. NWC

2012 WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIPThe Claremont women, who are ranked fourth in the nation and won the SCIAC Championship, are the favorite for the team title. Lewis & Clark, 24th nationally, won the NWC Championship and will look to give Claremont a challenge. The Willamette women, who are third in the region, are hoping to break up the top two and secure an automatic bid to the national championships. The favorite for

the individual title is Lenore Moreno (La Verne), who won the SCIAC title by almost a whole minute. Allison Barnwell (CMS) and Melissa Skiba (Cal Lutheran) rounded out the top three at the SCIAC championships and will contend for the title. Emily Thomas and Melissa Newton-Mora (Lewis & Clark) as well as Michaela Freeby (Willamette) were the top three at the NWC Championships and are all capable of knocking off Moreno.

CURRENT REGIONAL RANKINGS1. CMS (4th nationally) Claremont, Calif. SCIAC2. Lewis & Clark (24th nationally) Portland, Ore. NWC3. Willamette Salem, Ore. NWC4. Occidental Los Angeles, Calif. SCIAC5. Whitworth Spokane, Wash. NWC
