Rebuilding homes and lives forthe poorest of the poor in Batey 50
Fifty for 50The people who live in the sugarcane village
of Batey 50 in the Dominican Republic are the poorest of the poor. When visiting, it’s
as though you are in a place with people that the world has forgotten. Most homes have no
foundations, their roofs are made of banana leaves or rusted out corrugated tin. Every time
it rains, their beds and food supplies become sources of water-born illness.
In the past few years, progress has been made. Several homes on Batey 50 have water filters
providing potable water with which to drink and cook. Last summer we helped construct several latrines. But we haven’t addressed one of their
most basic life needs... shelter.
The goal: build 50 homes for the residents of Batey 50. These homes will have foundations
and be hurricane proof. Each house costs $5,000 and portions of homes may be donated also. Our
volunteer work teams will be involved in the construction each summer.
Please join us in transforming Batey 50!
q YES! I am interested in helping to help transform Batey 50 and build safe, sturdy homes for the very poor. Please send me more information and updates on the Fifty for 50 project.

No one should have to go hungryThousands of children in the Dominican Republic won’t eat today . . . or tomorrow. You can help solve the problem of hunger and starvation in one of the poorest areas of the world.
Last summer, our local DR Mission Team was able to bring one month’s worth of food to over 600 hungry families. Please help us reach even more families this summer! And ask us about plans for a farm that will provide sustainable nutrition and micro-business opportunities for people in the bateyes!

The Wallingford Rotary Club has been helping the poor in La Romana since 1996 by sponsoring local teenagers
on mission trips, providing an ambulance, generator, and hospital equipment for the Good Samaritan Hospital,
establishing a pediatric center and food program, and manufacturing and installing thousands of water filters
in homes on the bateyes.
Come join the Wallingford Rotary Club and the DR Mission Team in their efforts to help the very poor
in the Dominican Republic.

Then the King will say, ‘I’m telling the solemn truth: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me - you did it to me.’ Matthew 25:40
Meet Willie, a 10 year old boy on Batey 50, the poorest village the DR Mis-sion Team helps in the Dominican Republic. Willie is a happy, smart, kind and beautiful boy, who cannot wait for his American friends to arrive each morning so he can run up and hug us. The problem is Willie is almost at the age when he will no longer be able to go to school, no longer be able play with his friends in the afternoon, no longer be there when the old school bus arrives with his friends from Connecticut. His future in the next year or two is to start heading out into the sugar cane fields with his machete at 6 am every morning to cut cane, as his father and so many others from the village need to do to barely survive.
We want to help Willie - to build him a safe, secure house for his family to live in, to provide him with nutrition and health care so he can grow up healthy and strong, and to give him the opportunity to go to school so he can have a future other than the brutal sugar cane fields.
As the Bible verse above says, it is a privlege to help those in great need. Please join us in helping Willie and so many others like him in the DR.

West Woods Christian Academy A Work of Heart
Since 1975 K- 12
A distinctive atmosphere, along with a resolve to honor our Lord Jesus Christ has continued to draw families to our doors. Even our graduates have now returned to enroll their own children. You will notice, as many others have, that West Woods Christian Academy (WWCA) is a Work of Heart – everyday. The heart of God flows through the heart of our teachers, with the goal of reaching the heart of our students. Nothing is more thrilling for us to see, than a student who develops a heart after God’s heart. Everyday at WWCA students are challenged scholastically, while strengthening them spiritually.
We invite you to call the office to arrange for a visit. Everyday is open house at WWCA. Come and take a tour.
WWCA has been in operation since 1975 and graduated high school students since 1979. We are thankful for the excellent reputation WWCA has established in our area. If you are interested in having your child(ren) considered for enrollment, please contact the office for an information packet. 203-562-9922 www.wwcact.org

Join in supporting Batey “Esperanza” Day!Saturday, June 30, 2012
Batey 50, Dominican RepublicThe people of Batey 50 have begun to refer to their village as Batey Esperanza, meaning Batey Hope. This is where we are working to rebuild all 50 houses for the poorest of the poor. On June 30, the
residents of Batey 50 and 100 from our local D.R. Mission Team will celebrate hope—they’ll share a meal, play games, enjoy the Maranatha
Band in concert, and celebrate our love for one another.
A T-Shirt Sponsor is Needed!Generate hope for an entire village by sponsoring shirts pictured here that will be worn by all that day. For more information, please call the
DRMT at 203-626-2239 or email [email protected]. And look for more information on an internet broadcast from Batey 50 on June 30.
