Welcome We would like to welcome everyone back to
school for another action packed year. There
were a lot of excited parents on Monday as
they dropped their children off and were
looking forward to a bit more freedom and
ease with childcare. We have started with
107 children.
ABSENCES Please remember to phone us before 9.15am if your child is absent. After 9.15am Kirsten will phone parents to check where any unaccounted children are.
Welcome to all of our new students below.
Back Row (left to right): Noah Dorman, Joe Gee, Hol-
ly Thomas (Rm 1), Kier Etherington, Tai Horton
Front Row: Tara Morgan, Holley Fowler
Congratulations to Mason Lund for entering
and finishing the Tata Swim as the
youngest competitor!
Well done Mason!!!
“The swim was reasonably hard because I got
cramp in my leg. Dad was kayaking beside me
and that gave me confidence to keep going. I
had done a little bit of training at Totaranui
and Tata Beach. I felt really proud at the
end, but had no energy left.
I’m keen to do it again next year, but I’ll
probably train a bit more.”
School banking with the BNZ is Mondays. If you are a current BNZ customer you can just go and open an account and if you don't already bank with BNZ then you will need 2 forms of ID!
BOT News
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back to the first week of Term 1 at Motupipi School for 2012. A very warm welcome to the many new
children and families who have joined us over the holidays.
I hope you all enjoyed and celebrated the children’s reports that went home at the end of last year. The
children at Motupipi are doing well and the data from 2011 has shown that our students are achieving and
learning. Please take the time to talk to your children about their successes and perhaps talk about the next
learning steps for them.
ERO Review
The Education Review Office will be conducting a review of our school later in the month. Many thanks to Mark,
Jude and all the teachers who have put in a huge effort over the holidays to prepare for the ERO visit. We have
complete confidence our school will receive a favourable review outcome.
Board By-Elections
Motupipi School has a diverse school roll and we believe the many varied family backgrounds and skills within our
community make us such a vibrant happy learning place. We are looking to add three people to our Board to
assist in governing the school and setting its future direction.
We have triennial elections for the School Board of trustees. The last election was held in May 2010. Since then
we have had two elected Board members resign, and one member has been co-opted onto the Board.
The present Board members are: Mark Cullen - Principal
Wendy Webster - Teacher representative
Sonya Fleming - Chair
Josie Shelly – Elected parent representative
Stacey Ward – Elected parent representative
Peter Howard - Co-opted 2010/board member
Tania Hurst - (Elected parent representative - resigned May 2010)
Mike Robertson - (Elected parent representative - resigned Dec 2011)
Parent representatives Tania Hurst and Mike Robertson resigned after serving over a term with the Board.
Our Board has decided to replace the two elected parent representatives and add one more person to our Board.
We have decided to do this via a parent/caregiver by-election rather than a selection process.
Mark will provide further details about the process for advertising, nominations and voting in the near future.
Please feel free to contact any current board members if you want to know more about what’s involved in being a
board member. We’d welcome your interest in being involved.
School Charter
Each year the Board of Trustees is required to put together a Charter for the school. Within the Charter there
needs to be a strategic plan which covers the next 3 to 5 years, an annual plan for 2012, and targets set for
2012. The targets evolve from data collected and collated from the previous year. Over the last couple of
months we have been working on the Charter and data has been collated from 2011 which has shown that our
children are generally achieving very well. There are some trends that have become evident and these will form
the basis for further discussion and action. We will continue to support all children with their learning and
development. The Board of Trustees will be meeting on Wednesday 8th of February to fine tune and ratify the
2012 Charter. Thanks again to Mark, Jude and all the teachers for their hard work in preparing this important
document.
Have a great term.
Regards,
Sonya.
Education Review Office visit In three weeks time from the 27th - 29th February we have an Education Review, which will be carried
out by two review officers.
The purpose of the review is to help schools improve the learning and achievement of students, it will
inform us what we are doing well and areas that we can improve on.
The major evaluation question for the review is: “How effectively is your schools curriculum
promoting student learning - engagement, progress and achievement?”
Once completed a copy of the report will be available on the Education Review Office website.
BOARD OF TRUSTEES BY ELECTIONS We intend to hold a Board of Trustees By Election and will have vacancies for three parent
Representatives to take us through the General Board Election in 2013.

Friday Lunches We hope to start school lunches on Friday 17th if
there are parents who volunteer for the roster!
Thanks to Mary & Kirsten for organising school lunches last year, and to those few parents who have so kindly helped by baking, making, and helping to serve the lunches. Last year the lunches made the school $3557.70 which was put towards free buses for school trips, camps and school t-shirts etc. Also the children look forward to the treat of ordering them each Friday. Its time again to create a fresh parent base for 2012 lunches. The lunches can only happen with parent help; whether it is by cooking, preparing or donating ingredients. If you are worried about the cost of making the lunches, remember; you are not expected to buy the ingredients, but if you wish to donate any ingredients you are very welcome and it is much appreciated. If we have plenty of offers of help then it is just a matter of either baking a slice or putting together a lunch once or twice a year. We also have a list of tried and tested lunches or if you prefer, you can make your own favourite! Please call in and give Kirsten your name or phone the office on 525 9986.
Sunhats are to be
worn when playing
outside. Children are
required to play in
the shade if they
don't have a hat!
