In November 2012, in collaborationwith the executive team, the Boardbuilt and approved a new set of
guiding values and a three-yearstrategic plan addressing newtrends and opportunities.
One of our greatest achievements
this year was the grand opening ofChinook, a new retail location inCalgary. It was exciting to witnesspeople like Adam, Kelsey, Barry, and many other individuals withdisabilities serve as an integral partin the team that built this flagshiplocation of Goodwill Alberta. Weare also proud of the remodelingcompleted on the front and back endof other locations; we have createda great shopping experience forcustomers and a healthy working
environment for our Goodwill team.
Goodwill continues to engagewith our communities and pursuecollaborative partnerships. We
participated in the 2012 SpecialOlympics Canada Winter Gamesand International Day of Personswith Disabilities. We are growingand diversifying our relationshipswith stakeholder groups, corporate
sponsors, government andcommunity organizations.
As an outcome-driven organization,we have set the stage for resultsthat will showcase excellence
in all aspects of our business.Focused on our mission and values, strengthened by a new vision, led by an energetic and inspiredexecutive team, and supported bythe most dedicated staff, we are
well under way to building ourGoodwill family and our future.

In March 2012, I joined Goodwill asCEO and immediately was struckby the power of our mission andthe amazing dedication of thosethat work with Goodwill to promotethat mission. Goodwill is a socialenterprise, a business that usesprofit for a purpose. At Goodwill,we emphasize that while we aredesignated a not for profit charity, weare a social enterprise. We are proud
to be part of a Goodwill movementthat is delivering on improvingpeople, communities and societiesin 16 countries. Every 38 seconds ofevery business day in North America,a person served by Goodwill earns a
good job.
We established a new basis for doingbusiness in 2012 that focuses onthe Triple P bottom line of People,Profit and Planet. These three pillarsprovide the basis for our strategicplan and our business decisions.
Message from the CEODale Monaghan
We are first and foremost focusedon supporting people, ensuring thatindividuals with disabilities have
employment opportunities so thatthey can live productive and fulfillinglives. We are able to accomplishthis through generating profit fromour donations and retail operations, using our profit for purpose. Finally,we will not forget the planet. Ourenterprise allows us to be deeplyinvolved in the impact that wastehas on our planet. Through donatingand purchasing in our thrift stores, everyone contributes to bettering theenvironment by repurposing these
gently used goods.
Through the leadership of our boardand the inclusion of all of our staff wewere able to move forward with the de-
velopment of a new mission to reiterateour purpose, a new vision to guide ourfuture, and a set of values to drive ourdecision making. Through six strongvalues and six strategic directions weset out a business plan that willguide our future for the next threeyears and set a foundation forbuilding a strong enterprise.

In 2012, we opened two new retaillocations, and remodeled twoexisting locations. By the end of
2013, all of our locations will visuallyinform customers of the powerof our mission and another twolocations will be remodeled. Thisguides us further down the road tosignificant organizational change
and betterment in the way that weapproach our operations and supportour mission.
A new focus on community has ledus to develop partnerships with
companies and community-basedorganizations who desire to realizewith Goodwill a better, strongerAlberta. We want to thank andacknowledge the many organizationsthat take part in our programs, events
and build partnerships with Goodwillto support our mission. Their focuson building inclusive communities, enhancing the lives of individuals withdisabilities through employment, andmaking an impact on the environment
helps support the achievement of ourmission each and every day.
Finally, we are well positioned todeliver outcome-based servicesfor individuals with disabilities,
including meaningful employmentopportunities and job training. Thisis strategically aligned with theGovernment of Alberta’s social policyframework and the government’sposition on appropriately providing
meaningful, employment-basedopportunities for individuals withdisabilities.
My first year with Goodwill has beenperhaps one of the most meaningful. Our staff’s commitment to ourmission, their energy and passionare contagious and our ability tochange the lives of people every daythrough the simple ability to provideemployment gives me a great sense
of personal fulfillment.
