Textbook conditions saw near-ideal spring bud break, steady flowering, even fruit set, and a lengthy stretch of warm days and cool and often foggy nights during the long summer months. Rainfall in the winter months was above normal with Calistoga receiving 46 inches of rain. Even though we had plenty of early rain, the spigot turned off in early April prompting early and often irrigation to keep up with the dry conditions. Temperatures cooperated though, allowing us to have a long slow harvest with a great abundance of perfectly ripe grapes, with smooth balance of acids and sugars that provided a broad sweep of opportunities for winemakers to cull only the most select fruit. e vineyards of Napa Valley are intentionally farmed at lower yields bringing only the very best grape to harvest.
