As many of you may know, I will be stepping down as president at the end of this academic year. Looking back on my years “at the helm,” I am most proud of our faculty, staff and students, whose accomplishments have earned us a worldwide reputation as one of the finest institutions of maritime education and training in the world. I am also tremendously proud of the success of our Annual Gala, the premier fundraiser for student scholarships and academic programs at Cal Maritime. Last year’s event raised nearly $165,000 in support of our cadets.

Making the decision to leave Cal Maritime wasn’t an easy one. I have loved sharing in the stewardship of this academy with you. But it is an inevitable one that will allow Kathryn and me to be closer to our children and grandchildren on the East Coast and to focus on spending more time together and enjoying another chapter of our life.

Kathryn and I would be delighted if you would join us for Cal Maritime’s 8th Annual Gala, which we hope will be the most successful yet! Your participation and support will help our students realize their educational goals so they can chart the course for their own futures — which will be brighter with your support.
