    A I A | L A D E S I G N A W A R D SThe AIA|LA Design Awards showcase the best of built work located in Los Angeles or by LA-based

    architects and located elsewhere. Entrants must be members of any chapter of the American Institute of

    Architects. Award winners will be announced and celebrated at the AIA|LA Awards Ceremony in October.

    Entry Categories*

    Project Eligibility

    All entries must represent built projects that have been designed by either a Los Angeles-based practice or by other architects and / or located within the area represented by the AIA Los

    Angeles Chapter. Only architects, associates, or student members, in good standing, of any chapter of the American

    Institute of Architects may submit entries.

    All entries must clearly identify the category in which the specic project would like to be considered.Only projects completed after January 1, 2009 are eligible.

    Projects that have been previously awarded in the NEXT LA Awards are eligible for submission inthe AIA|LA Design Award categories. However, entries that have been previously awarded with anAIA|LA Design Award are not eligible for the AIA/LA Design Awards.

    Projects by any 2012 AIA|LA Design or NEXT LA Awards jury member (or that jury members rm,regardless of location) are ineligible.

    Jury

    The AIA|LA Design Awards jury will be comprised of noted architecture professionals.

    * Awards are not bestowed per category. Projects are grouped by category for ease of jury coordination only.

    N E X T L A A W A R D SThe NEXT LA Awards showcase the future of Los Angeles architecture by awarding projects that arenot yet built in Los Angeles, or projects by LA-based architects to be built elsewhere. Entrants must bemembers of any chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Award winners will be announced and

    celebrated at the AIA|LA Awards Ceremony in October.

    Entry Categories*

    Project Eligibility

    All entries must represent unbuilt projects that have been designed by either a Los Angeles-based

    practice or by other architects and / or located within the area represented by the AIA|LA Chapter. Only architects, associates, or student members in good standing of any chapter of the American

    Institute of Architects may submit entries.

    All entries must clearly identify the category in which the specic project would like to be considered. All entries must be unbuilt, but have been commissioned by a client (except for competitions). Projects

    and competitions must originate no earlier than January 1, 2009. Projects must be less than 75% complete at time of judging to be eligible; jury maintains the

    right to disqualify projects that are more than 75% completed at time of judging.

    Projects that have been awarded previously in the NEXT LA Awards are not eligible for submission inany of the other NEXT LA Awards categories.

    Projects by any 2012 AIA|LA Design or NEXT LA Awards jury members (or that jury members rm,

    regardless of location) are ineligible.

    Jury

    The NEXT LA Awards jury will be comprised of noted architecture and various aliated professionals,such as curators, editors, educators or environmental designers.

    * Awards are not bestowed per category. Projects are grouped by category for ease of jury coordination only.

    To recognize excellence in City design projects, AIA|LA is coordinating with the City of Los AngelesCultural Aairs Commission (CAC) to facilitate entry to CAC / Built Awards and CAC / Unbuilt Awards.There is no cost for entrants to CAC Design Awards, provided the project has been commissioned by theCity of Los Angeles or an aliated agency and reviewed and approved by the Board of Cultural AairsCommissioners. Entrants to AIA|LAs awards may submit a duplicate digital entry to the CAC Awards atno additional cost if the project meets the CAC awards eligibility requirements. Award winners will beannounced and celebrated at the AIA|LA Awards Ceremony in October. Questions regarding the CAC

    Awards Program should be directed to the Department of Cultural Aairs oce at (213)202-5501.

    Entry Categories

    Project Eligibility

    All entries must represent projects that are built by the City of Los Angeles or in collaboration with aCity of Los Angeles agency.

    Projects must be designed by a city architect or private architecture rm (either from LA or outside of

    LA) for the City of Los Angeles.

    All entries must clearly identify the category in which the specic project would like to be considered. Projects that demonstrate the integration of public art and architecture are strongly encouraged.

    Only projects completed after January 1, 2009 are eligible for CAC / Built Awards submissions. Only projects approved by the CAC after January 1, 2011, and are less than 75% complete at time ofjudging, are eligible for CAC / Unbuilt Awards submissions.

    Projects do not have to be entered into the AIA|LA Design or NEXT LA Awards to be eligible, but mustadhere to format, rules and schedule of both awards.

    Projects that have previously won an AIA|LA Design or NEXT LA Award, and meet other CAC eligibilityrequirements, may only be entered into CAC Design Awards.

    Projects receiving a CAC Award do not automatically receive an AIA|LA Design or NEXT LA Award and

    vice-versa. However, it is possible to win both a CAC Award and AIA|LA Design or NEXT LA Award.

    f E E S + D E A D L I N E SA non-refundable registration fee of $185 must accompany the entry form for the rst entry into AIA|LADesign Awards or NEXT LA Awards, and a fee of $155 is required for each additional entry into any of the

    competitions. There are no fees for the CAC Design Awards. Your entry form and fee must be in receipt

    by the chapter oce no later than May 31, 2012. All submittals are due on August 10, 2012.

    R E G I S T R A T I O N + S u B M I S S I O NIndividuals or rms may submit any number of projects to the AIA|LA Design Awards and NEXT LAAwards. An entry will be eligible even though the submitting architect is not the sole author, providingthe submitting architect credits all other participants who substantially contributed to the design of

    the project.

    Submitted work on a CD-ROM. Identication Forms in MS Word format. Up to 6 high-res digital project images, a selection of which may be used during the AIA|LA

    Awards Ceremony and / or for publication and publicity.

    The AIA|LA Awards Ceremony will be in October. Day, time and location are to be announced. Winners ofthe awards will be announced at the event, where they will be given their award certicates.In addition to honoring the winners of the AIA|LA Design Awards, NEXT LA Awards and CAC Awards, the2012 AIA|LA Presidential Award recipients will also be recognized. Tickets for the awards ceremony will beavailable for purchase through the chapter oce.
