contact me and I will make sureyour logo gets included on theposter. As I said in thesponsorship letters, we used tocall this “Club Racesponsorship,” but it has reallybecome Club sponsorship. After having looked at thebooks from last year, it isobvious that the Club cannothold the events we do withoutthe sponsorship we receive. Werarely have events now that canbreak even, let alone make theClub any money, so, in order tocontinue to have events likeClub Race, DEs, dinners, breakfasts, the Holiday Party, the Anniversary party this year, etc., we are completelydependent on our sponsors. Therefore, if you havecontributed in the past, Iencourage you to continue. Ifyou have not contributed, andif you are able, I wouldencourage you to contributeany amount that you can.

music in Omaha (and I do forthe 15-20 minutes I'm in the carduring the day), KVNO isreally a wonderful resource forOmaha – their selection ofclassical music is top notch, andthere still isn't anyone who'squite like Otis 12 in themornings. Every spring, theyhold their annual pledge drive. Now, it is very easy to remainanonymous listening to a radiostation – there is no way forthem to know that you arelistening or not, and thereforeyou'd think that pledges forKVNO would be low, butinterestingly, they had anothergreat year. Similarly, other thanyour dues, there is nothing youhave to do to participate inPorsche Club events – however,in the spirit of KVNO, ourmembers have always beengenerous in sponsoring ourClub. If you can help us thisyear, your sponsorship wouldbe greatly appreciated, and wecan continue to hold the highquality events that you are usedto, and throw a blowout 45thAnniversary Party.

Tuning the Boxster by Steve Wilwerding

For those who have followedmy past columns, you'll

know that, a couple years ago, Idecided to swap out myBoxster's engine for one from a1999 996. It has been quite aprocess – after the initial swap,I was not happy with theexhaust sound, so last year Iinstalled a Fabspeed. I alsonoticed last year that the carjust didn't have quite as muchpower and torque as it should.

I started doing someinquiring last summer as to agood Porsche tuning shop, andover and over I was told to getin touch with Todd at a shopcalled Protomotive. After someback and forth emails, I wasfinally able to get in touch withTodd around the holidays, andwe decided that I would bringthe car down in the spring.

Since I had a week ofvacation coming, I decided to

dyno showed that the stockprogram in the Boxster wasWAY off – the air/fuel mixturewas very lean at full throttle, and it was way down on power. He said that he would track theissues down Mondayafternoon, and on Tuesdaymorning would install the newcomputer program and I wouldbe all set to go.

Which, let me tell you, Iwas. While Harrison is situatedin the beautiful Ozarks, there isprecious little to do. OnMonday, I drove up to Bransonto do some looking around, andwas astonished by how muchdamage was caused by thetornado a month earlier. If youare familiar with Branson, you'll know that the highwaydivides the main strip. To thewest of the highway, nearlyevery other business was either

take the car down the last weekof March. Now, when I say thatProtomotive is in the middle ofnowhere, that's anunderstatement. The nearesttown to the them is Harrison,Arkansas (a town about the sizeof Fremont, 35 miles south ofBranson, Missouri).Protomotive is not in town –they are 25 miles southwest oftown, and five miles down (andI mean down) a dirt road fromthe highway. I told Todd that heshould get the award for leastaccessible Porsche shop in thecountry, as I cannot imagine aplace that is farther fromcivilization.

In any case, I drove theBoxster down on Sunday night, and on Monday morning, Toddpicked up the car and beganwork. Around noon onMonday, Todd called and saidthat his preliminary runs on the

Promotive’s garage may be in the middle of nowhere, but provides excellent tuning services for your Porsche.

Sonic Show ‘n’ Shine Returns by Ken Kusik

It was started on a whim backin 1995. In musical terms it

has proven to be more than aone-hit wonder. The numberssay it all: over 2,700automobiles and well over3,500 members and friendshave attended roughly 60events. In the last two yearsalone, four nights have drawn400 cars. It is the longestrunning, best attended, summer social event in clubhistory. Now in its 18th season,it is Show ‘n’ Shine Cruise Nite.

Often imitated, rarelyduplicated, it is a revival of thegreat cruising days of cheapgas, going steady, jukeboxes, and drive-in movies. Fromevery main street in every town

completely destroyed, or hadserious damage. To the east ofthe highway, Branson's bigconvention center/hotel hadnearly every window blownout of it. It was terrible damage, and it looks like they are goingto take awhile to get everythingfixed back up.

On Tuesday morning, anxious to get going back toOmaha, I called Todd to seeabout the progress. He said thathe was having issues with themass airflow sensor, and thathe was still trying to sort it out.He was hopeful that he couldbe done by the end of the day,but wasn't sure (I was havingvisions of having to stay inHarrison another night, and Iwas already going out of my

mind with boredom). Finally, about 3:00, he called and saidthat the car would be ready by5:00.

I drove down to the shopto pick up the Boxster, andTodd explained that, usingseven dyno pulls and hiscustom software, he was able toboost the power of the Boxsterby 50 HP and 30 lb/ft of torque. The car is now putting out over300 HP at the crank, and it goeslike stink. What's better, it runsbeautifully.

On the way back home, Iwas able to do some runs on theback-country roads, and it wasa blast. The car performedflawlessly all the way back toOmaha, and it actually gotbetter gas mileage than on the

way down. After the work, I concur

with all of the online and emailrecommendations that I gotabout Todd – he really is aPorsche tuning genius, andknew everything there is toknow about getting the mostout of a Porsche – interestingly, his specialty is air-cooled andTurbo P-cars, but he did a greatjob on the Boxster. Not onlydoes Todd program computers, but he builds all manner ofperformance parts, so if you'relooking to make an upgrade toyour Porsche (and don't minddriving to the middle ofnowhere), I would say that, inthis part of the country, there isno better place to take it thanProtomotive.
