TreasuresTreasures is a resource that can and

should be supplemented. If students and teachers are only reading or

using books from Treasures it is not enough.

Treasures is a beginning and a guide but not the end of instruction.

Student Reading TimeInstructional time should be spent with

kids actually reading at a much higher volume than anything else (teacher talk, worksheets, etc)

Across the day, all students should spend at least 45-minutes reading texts with 96% accuracy, fluency and comprehension

When Planning Reading Instruction…Refer to the Curriculum GuideRefer to the Common Core State Standards

(CCSS)Refer to GLE’s – ONLY Grades 2-5 this

year*Gather other books available to students at

various levels that connect to the unit and learning targets in a purposeful way

Daily Reading ActivitiesStudents must talk and write about what they read

daily. Books about the same topic should be recommended

and provided. All students should discuss and write responses that

directly link to the text. If students have spent time writing about their

favorite part of the text, this might be a good place to transition to writing that is directly related to what was read in the text.

Read AloudsRead alouds at every grade are important

and should occur daily in all content. When choosing books to read to students,

books should be rich in vocabulary and should be at least two levels higher than what the students can read independently.

Read aloud texts should connect to the curriculum in some way.
