I love working within my community and at a small-town hospital that allows me to give my patients exceptional care. – Kelly Musselman, R.N.

Dear Friends of Rochelle Community Hospital,

For those of us in healthcare, the government-approved Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is seemingly at the forefront of everything we do today. The delivery of healthcare is experiencing unprecedented change, and we continually adapt our services and operations to meet the changes and associated challenges. While we continually monitor what is taking place at the federal level, we must not lose sight of our primary objectives which include enhancing the patient experience, remaining fiscally responsible and being physician and employee friendly.

The past year has been full of positive experiences and recognition for Rochelle Community Hospital. RCH was recognized by iVantage Health Analytics, Inc. as one of the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the country and Top 5 in Illinois. This recognition was based on market share, patient outcomes, financial strength and quality of care. We are extremely proud of this honor especially since it encompasses many different facets of our organization. This recognition is based on publicly reported data of which we cannot control.

Becker’s Hospital Review, a national healthcare industry publication, recognized RCH on its list of the Top 49 Cleanest Hospitals in the country and on another occasion as one of the Top 57 Hospitals in which the physicians “always” communicated well with their patients. This data was retrieved from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey. The HCAHPS survey is a standardized, publicly reported survey of patients’ perspectives of hospital care.

earlier this year we celebrated 100 years of providing healthcare services to Rochelle and the surrounding communities. We hosted an open house with activities for all ages. For educational purposes we had the MeGA Body™, an inflatable interactive medical replica of the human body in which visitors could walk through and see many of the internal organs. We also offered guests the opportunity to tour the helipad on the roof of the hospital while the helicopter was stationed there. All of these activities were offered as a thank you to the many loyal supporters the hospital has had over the years.

It is difficult today to be a small community hospital, and we would not be able to celebrate some of the accomplishments and offer many of the services we do without our mutually beneficial and friendly relationships with other organizations. We have begun collaboratively offering healthcare services in the community of Ashton along with Katherine Shaw Bethea (KSB) Hospital in Dixon. In conjunction with KSB, we now see patients in the same clinic on alternating days. This has allowed both organizations to eliminate some costs while offering the same level of service as previously provided.

our continued relationship with Midwest orthopaedic Institute (MoI) in Sycamore has given both organizations the ability to heal and rehabilitate numerous orthopedic patients. The installation of a new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine at RCH provided by MoI further compliments the wide range of imaging equipment already present at RCH.

Also within the last year we developed a strategic plan focusing on patient service, growth opportunities and being a place employees want to work. In addition to being one of the larger employers in Rochelle with the vast majority of our employees being Rochelle residents, we take great pride in the number of RCH employees residing outside our service area electing to drive a little farther to work here.

You will often hear us mention our commitment to Rochelle and our primary service area, and we really mean it. We want you to understand every action we take is to benefit you, our customers. We feel we are doing great things at RCH and want to give you every opportunity to experience them when you need healthcare services. Please give us the opportunity to show you. We will gladly compare our patient satisfaction survey results with any organization.

Sincerely,

Mark J. Batty noah Carmichael Chief Executive Officer Chairman, Board of TrusteesRochelle Community Hospital Rochelle Community Hospital Association

Every employee that I have met is totally dedicated to the organization and to this community. I choose to drive 50 miles (one way) to work at RCH because I love my job and the people I work with!! Both of those make it worth every mile.– Lucinda Zoeller, Nurse Practitioner

Dear Fellow Citizens and Friends,

It has been my privilege to serve as the Chief of the Medical Staff this last year. During this time I have been witness to both celebration and challenge. At the forefront of celebration was our hospital’s 100th anniversary, which showcased Rochelle’s medical community. on hand were hospital administrators, employees, local physicians, nurse practitioners and also representatives from Rochelle’s police and fire departments. This event stood as a reminder that the best healthcare starts with a great community team. I thank everyone who was involved. This year also brought with it new challenges. Rochelle has seen the construction of two clinics from neighboring competitors. While these outside healthcare facilities would like to take patients away from Rochelle, they will be met with challenges of their own. Recent regional satisfaction surveys show that RCH continues to be the clear leader in markers of patient care. our health system is one of the largest employers in Rochelle, and it is the people of Rochelle that set us above the rest. We also celebrate our continued relationship with Midwest orthopaedic Institute. This partnership has added a broad range of orthopaedic services to Rochelle, including surgical and rehabilitation care. Recently, we added a state-of-the-art MRI scanner to the hospital site, giving us advanced imaging services for the community on a daily basis. While the conversion to an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system at our hospital and physician offices began as a significant challenge, our healthcare staff was up to the task. Together we have made great use of this tool, enhancing both patient healing and safety. our hospital, along with its supporting community team, will continue to push forward to be your provider of choice when it comes to excellence in healthcare. Thank you for making us a part of your lives.

o U R A U x I L I A RYAll proceeds from the Auxiliary’s Gift Shoppe and money raised from our fundraisers aid RCH in providing the highest level of service to patients and staff, as well as members of the community. The Auxiliary’s member-ship is comprised of approximately 200 women and men, of whom 43 are lifetime members. Dues are $10 for an annual membership and $150 for a lifetime membership. Volunteers devoted more than 4,800 hours to staff the Auxiliary’s Gift Shoppe and the Hospital Lab receptionist desk. In addition, they spent countless hours in conducting fundraisers, using their talents to create products for the annual Holiday Bazaar and Gift Shoppe, as well as leading the Happy Hospital Tours.

The Illinois Hospital Association (IHA) is actively supported by the RCH Auxiliary. Representatives of the Auxiliary attended IHA workshops,

donated a silent auction item for a retreat and contributed to the CoV Scholarship Fund. The Auxiliary was one of 26 recipients of the coveted “Hospital Constituency on Volunteers (CoV) Health Care Advocacy Award.”

Annual events for members included the Volunteer/Scholarship Brunch in the spring and a Holiday Tea in December.

Members also passed out treats to the hospital staff on Hospital Appreciation Day in February.

Donations:The Auxiliary donated $15,845 to the hospital for the purchase of a vein viewer vision imaging System. Fundraising proceeds contributed $10,000, and Gift Shoppe profits contributed $5,845. Six $1,000 scholarships were awarded to individuals who are pursuing careers in the medical field at the Auxiliary’s annual Volunteer/Scholarship Brunch.

involvement in the community:Happy Hospital tours were conducted by the Auxiliary members for 242third-grade students from eight area schools. Members of the Auxiliaryparticipated in the “Hospital Hustle,” a 5K walk/run, as well as the Lincoln Highway Heritage Festival parade. The Auxiliary donated abasket for the silent auction at the christmas tree Festival at city Hall.

I appreciate all the hours, money and wonderful talents donated by the dedicated members of the Auxiliary. The volunteers make a tremendous contribution to enrich the hospital and the community.

each year the RCH Foundation raises money in support of the hospital. 2012 funds were used for the new state-of-the-art Toshiba Prime 160 Slice CT Scanner. Our hospital was the first in the nation to have the 160 Slice CT Scanner up and running. The RCH Foundation holds multiple fundraising events throughout the year. The first event is the Hospital Hustle 5K which was held on June 2, 2012. The course runs from Atwood Park, through the Rochelle Township High School Campus, then turns around to finish where it began. emily Anaya (Foundation and Community events Coordinator) was assisted by Katie Haas (Administrative Assistant) and Janet Stewart (Marketing and Public Relations) along with many RCH staff as volunteers. The Rochelle Police Department helped to ensure our participants’ safety when crossing Flagg Road. The event accommodated 224 registered participants as well as several sponsors… leading to an increase in net profits of $7,216.18.

on August 6, 2012, the 12th Annual Foundation Golf outing was held at the Rochelle Country Club. The planning team featured Robert Johns (Senior Vice President of Administration and executive Director of the Foundation), emily Anaya and Janet Stewart. Following a tasty lunch, 140 golfers took to the course for a great day of fun and golfing. The day was finished with an elegant dinner and presentation of sponsors and prizes. The total funds raised were $29,548.84 which was a steady increase from last year’s event.

The Second Annual “Get Your Pink on” event was held on Monday, october 1, 2012. RCH worked with xpressions Hair Salon on this kickoff event for Breast Cancer Awareness month. The event featured pink feather hair extensions and pink hair dye for $15. After the kickoff, xpressions continued the support for the entire month of october. Del Monte Foods was another supporter and raised money internally through different events. Between both groups, we were able to raise close to $3,000 toward Breast Cancer education materials for the community.

The Year end Appeal letter was mailed to about 7,000 residences. The letter is sent each year to ask the community members in the RCH service area for donations in support of the Foundation’s fundraising efforts for the year. The Foundation was able to secure $19,000, which is almost double what was donated in 2011. The final event for the Foundation is the Annual Love Light and Tree Lighting. This event was held on Thursday, December 6, 2012. Lights were available for purchase with names of loved ones printed on the bulbs and displayed on the Love Light Tree located in the hospital’s lobby. This event allowed for an increase in funds; the Love Lights raised $640.

To show appreciation and thanks to the donors from the previous year, the RCH Foundation hosts a Legacy Society Reception. The reception was held on Thursday, november 15, 2012, at Holcomb State Bank. There were 55 donors in attendance. Heavy appetizers, drinks and a saxophone player helped set the ambiance of the evening.

The Foundation truly appreciates the community’s support and looks forward to another successful year.
