19 sts + 32 rows = 4" (10 cm) in Garter st (k every row) on smaller needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

M1 (make 1 st): An increase worked by lifting the horizontal thread lying between theneedles and placing it onto the left needle. Work this new stitch through the back loop.dbl dec (double dec) (sk2p): Slip 1 as if to knit, knit 2 together, pass slipped stitch over 2sts decreased.ssk (slip, slip, knit): Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert leftneedle into fronts of these 2 sts and k them tog.

INSTEPRow 1: K 17, turn, slip 1, k 8, turn.Row 2: Slip 1, k 8, turn.Rep Row 2 for 7 (11) times. Pick up 4 (6) sts along left side of instep, then knit rem 8 sts on left needle.Turn. Knit 21 (23), pick up 4 (6) sts along right side of instep, then knit rem 8 sts – 33 (37) sts. Knit 4rows.
