Occupy Wall Streetvowing vengeance
After court ruling, Occupy Wall Street let back into park, but withouttents and tarps The arrests of hundreds yesterday will only fuel theirfight for tomorrow, vow protesters Mayhem promised in ‘Day of Action’
After they were temporarily kicked out of Zuccotti Park yesterday, protesters marched to Canal Street.
As protesters trickled backinto Zuccotti Park withouttheir tents and tarps lastnight, they pledged tomake tomorrow’s Interna-tional Day of Action onethis city will never forget.
“On the 17th, mark mywords, we’re going to burnthis city down,” said Nkru-man Tinsley, 29.
Protester Eli Moses saidTuesday’s midnight policeraid on the park only “in-vigorated” the movement.
“Anyone who was inthat raid is going to bemore angry than scared,”said Moses, 22. “We have
to get more intense if wewant anything to change. There are a lot of thingsthat are going to happentomorrow.”
Occupy Wall Street pro-testers are planning alitany of events meant todisrupt New York City incommemoration of thegroup’s two-month an-niversary.
As several hundred pro-testers entered the park af-ter sunset, they cried andhugged in celebration.
They were searched bypolice before entering, tomake sure they didn’t
bring in sleeping bags, tarps or tents, all itemsthat are now contrabandin the private park.
But many of the protest-ers vowed that even with-out their gear, they’re stay-ing put at Zuccotti, no mat-ter how cold it gets.
“It’s really good to behome,” said J.A. Myerson,25, who is looking forwardto Thursday. “A lot of peo-ple are willing to throwtheir bodies into thestreets for this movement.”
What to expect
7 a.m. Shut Down Wall
Street: Protesters will meetin the park, before theopening of the Stock Ex-change. “Tomorrow theopening bell will be shutdown,” said Eli Conrad, 23.3 p.m. Occupy the sub-
ways: Protesters will gatherat 16 central subway hubsthroughout the city.5 p.m. Foley Square: Pro-testers say thousands willgather at Foley Square andwill then march across theBrooklyn Bridge.
Judge sideswith city:No tents
NEW YORK. A judge ruledyesterday that protestersmay return to ZuccottiPark — but no camping.
The judge ruled in favorof the city’s attorneys, whosaid that property rules for-
bid tents, which make thespace unusable for the pub-lic, they argued. Lawyersfor Occupy Wall Street ar-gued that the tents are anintegral part of the 24-hour protest. METRO/AB

It’s not just protesters whoare furious with MayorMichael Bloomberg’s deci-sion to clear out ZuccottiPark. Elected officials fromHarlem to Brooklyn arecalling the move “sneaky”and “legally questionable.”
“Given the NYPD’ssneaky tactics early on, Iam not surprised by theNYPD’s efforts to use thecloak of night as a shieldfor their brazen violationof the First Amendment,”said Brooklyn CouncilmanJumaane Williams, whowas at Zuccotti Park whenthe eviction happened yes-terday. “I expected thiswould happen; I just didnot know when.”
Councilman Ydanis Ro-driguez, who representsnorthern Manhattan, wasamong the nearly 200 ar-rested when policestormed the park andkicked out the campers.
“Mayor Bloomberg madea needlessly provocativeand legally questionable de-cision to clear Zuccotti Parkin the dead of night,” saidPublic Advocate Bill de Bla-sio, a frequent critic ofBloomberg’s. “Provocations
under cover of darkness on-ly escalate tensions in a sit-uation.”
Bloomberg said the deci-sion to evict the protesterswas his and his alone, al-though he made the call af-ter complaints from near-by business owners andBrookfield Properties, which owns the park.
But at least one citycouncilman approved ofthe mayor’s decision.
“Bloomberg ended onlythe illegal aspects of whathad clearly become an oc-cupation, which deniedothers their right to safe, clean streets,” said QueensCouncilman Peter Vallone.
“The protests can con-tinue, within the reason-able restrictions set by theLegislature and the courts,”he added.

Most legal experts agreethat Penn State is likely toface civil lawsuits from al-leged victims in the childsex abuse scandal thatousted the university’spresident and legendaryfootball coach Joe Paterno. The size of Penn State’s le-gal headaches and thedamage to its reputationwill depend on how theuniversity reacts, accord-ing to lawyer RoderickMacLeish.
The university first
should disclose any factsrelevant to the case, hesaid.
“It’s much better if the
facts come from thesource,” MacLeish attest-ed. “They’re going tocome out. It will givethem credibility.”
Penn State should alsooffer unconditional mentalhealth treatment to the al-leged victims and set up aprivate victims’ compensa-tion fund, sparing poten-tial plaintiffs the “horrorsof litigation,” he added.
MacLeish, who has noconnection to the PennState case, was the leadlawyer in a clergy abusecase against the Archdio-cese of Boston that settledin 2003. The church’s com-bative legal stance ulti-mately backfired, MacLeishsaid. REUTERS

THEWORDMetro’s Dorothy Robinson shares her take on the world of gossip @dorothyatmetro [email protected]
If you are a baby and hap-pen to come across singerPatti LaBelle, it’s best if youpull up your diaper, grabyour rattle and crawl rightout of there.
It was disclosed yester-day in a lawsuit filed inManhattan Supreme Courtthat the singer screamedobscenities at a toddler andthrew a punch at the ba-by’s mother (who also hap-pens to be a school teacher)sometime this year. Themother, Roseanna Monk, isnow suing LaBelle, whowas living in Monk’s Man-hattan apartment buildingwhile appearing on Broad-
way’s “Fela.”According to Monk’s
lawyer, reports TheNew York Daily News, this is what happened:The 18-month-old tod-dler, named Genevieve, was “scampering”around the apartmentbuilding’s lobby whenLaBelle, who is de-scribed as being in “full starregalia with oversize shadesand a fur coat” became up-set at the baby as shewalked through. “‘What areyou doing letting your kidrun around like that?’” shereportedly yelled. Thelawyer goes on to say La-
Belle then “start-ed screaming”and “throwing wa-ter from a bottle atthe mother’s face
and the baby’s face.”As if that wasn’tenough, LaBelle thentook a swing at thebaby’s mother.
LaBelle was thenushered into a waitingcar by her entourageand the baby then “vio-lently” threw up.
So far, the singerhasn’t responded to theallegations. She’s proba-bly too busy not-babysit-ting to do so.
Reed speaks on ‘Twilight’dynamicsWith the first part of the“Twilight” finale hittingtheaters, actress Nikki Reed
is opening up about theless-than-familialatmosphere amongst thecast. “In the beginning, itwas innocent and fun, andwe were like one big hap-py family. It was like beingat sleepaway camp,” Reedtells Seventeen magazine.
“Success came along andchanged the dynamic. We’re not all best friends, and we’re not all going tohang out together after thefinal movie is done.” Andwatching her co-stars’ rela-tionships fall apart oncefilming stopped wasn’t theeasiest thing. “It was very, very sad. Let’s just leave itat that,” she says.
Reynoldsromances inBostonThe romance betweenRyan Reynolds and Blake
Lively appears to be goingstrong, as the pair stepped
out in Boston’s Back Bayneighborhood for an inti-mate dinner at restaurantL’Espalier, according toPeople magazine. “Theystarted with caviar and oys-ters on the half shell, wenton to clam chowder andbeet salad. For entrees, alobster and a halibut dish. And for dessert, a souffle,”a source says.
Jay-Z onimpendingfatherhoodJay-Z says his ownexperience of his fatherleaving when he was 11had a lasting impact on
him. “If your dad died be-fore you were born, yeah,it hurts, but it’s not likeyou had a connection withsomething that was real,”Jay-Z tells GQ magazine.“My dad was such a gooddad that when he left, heleft a huge scar.” The rap-per is currently expectinga daughter with wife Bey-
once Knowles, and his mainpriority is being there forhis child. “Providing —that’s not love. Being there— that’s more important,”he says. And does beingthere mean changing dia-pers once the little girl ar-rives? “Of course, ofcourse,” he says. “One hun-dred percent.”

“Dream Big” is this season’sBig Apple Circus theme; theidea of dreaming is mani-fested in woozy, steam-punk/sci-fi/faux-Cirque duSoleil styling. The new teamof Renaud Doucet and An-dre Barbe, stage directorand designer, have much in-ternational experience, es-pecially directing opera. The lineup seems smallerthan in previous years, withseveral acts appearing morethan once in each show.
Grandma, the wonderful-ly wry clown played fordecades by Barry Lubin, ishaving his farewell season;this 34th show, in general,is short on clowning. It’slong on other surprises, though, like a capybara (the
world’s largest rodent) andan extremely punk-styledcrested porcupine, alongwith several well-traineddogs and a trio of lovelyhorses.
A huge silver machineadorned with silver umbrel-las disgorges a robot-likejuggler who keeps his ballsin pockets all over his cos-tume, but his actual actseems merely an after-
thought. The Shandong Ac-robats, on the other hand,do astonishing things withjumpropes, like forming apyramid of six guys whoclear the rope all at once, and the Flying Cortes arebreathtaking.
From time to time thedream edges into night-mare; it’s one of the darkerBig Apple incarnations I’veseen. A little girl pulledfrom the audience refusesto wear a funny hat, and dis-appears into the vaguelyGrand Guignol set. But donot be alarmed — her finalreappearance is one of thehighlights of the show.

Yoga pose of the week: SleepingTortoiseEach Wednesday, as part of
our expanded Wellbeing sec-
tion, Metro will share a top yo-
ga pose from the pros. Why
yoga? We love that it’s known
to build strength, lower blood
pressure and ease stress — to
name just a few of its benefits.
This pose, from Bodyism Yoga
instructor Stephanie Knutsson,
is especially great for
beginners.
1Start in a seated position, with your knees out to the
sides and the soles of the feet
together. Have the heels abouta foot away from the groin.
2Grab the feet from aboveand reach out under the
legs to grab the toes. Take abreath in and let the kneesdrop.
3On an exhale, round yourspine and pull the head to-
wards the feet. Release the neckand drop the head. Hold thisposition for about 30 seconds.
4To come out of the pose, exhale and release the
hands and feet. On an inhale, lift the torso up to a sitting po-sition. Use your hands to helpyou draw your knees back tocenter. METRO
Strike a pose
Yoga no-nos
Never do the following:
Leave your cell phone on.
You know this. How comeyour neighbor doesn’t? Skip shavasana (the last
meditative state). Peoplecome to yoga class with agym-like focus — they wantto leave once the “workout”is over and skip theshavasana meditation. Thisfinal pose is very importantto restore the nervous sys-
tem and calm your mind. Step on someone’s mat.
Only you know where yourfeet have been.
Your instructor has likely seen (and heard) it all.
According to DevonSpencer-Smith, yo-ga instructor at theRise Movement
studio in Los Angeles (Kris-ten Stewart is a fan), thebest way to deal with an
embarrassing incidentduring yoga class is tolaugh it off. “Yoga is amoving meditation that al-lows you to let go of a lotof things in life. Gettingannoyed or agitated adds
aggressiveness and ego toyour practice, which defiesits purpose,” she says. Oth-er than having a sense ofhumor, here are someways you can address mor-tifying mat moments.
The downside of downward dog
Just how does one get through the most unpleasant moments that can occur in yoga class?
Plus, some etiquette rules to remember
You’re embarrassed to make a soundThat “ohm” in thebeginning can leave first-timers in a fit of giggles. Solution: The purpose ofthe Sanskrit sound is tomentally bring everyoneinto and out of the class.“It’s what helps you stay fo-cused and aware of yourbreath,” says David Kim, in-structor at L.A.’sYogaWorks studio. “If do-ing the ‘ohm’ really embar-rasses you, then do a veryquiet one under yourbreath,” Kim suggests.
You make an, erm, unexpected noisePassing wind in public isbad enough. It’s evenworse when it happensduring a silent yoga class. Solution: “If a studentpasses gas, ignore it,” saysKim. “Some poses triggerthe release of gas, especial-ly twists and inversionsthat upset digestion.” Andif it’s you you’re worriedabout, avoid eating two tothree hours before a class, and relax: The anxiety overtrying not to fart can makeit happen.
You settle next toa rude neighborYou arrive early to securethe best spot. Five minutesinto class, the aggravatorarrives, puts his mat aninch from yours, blocksyour view and wedges histoes in your face. Solution: The teachershould lay down the law.“It’s only fair to have a 15-minute rule, after whichthe people aren’t allowedin,” says Kim. Barring that, ask them to be careful —and wish them namasteafterward.

Once and for all, whoshould pay on a date?
I’m a single guy in the city. I’m
really tired of gold-digging
women expecting me to pay
for everything on dates. I
understand it’s appropriate to
pay for the first date or two,
but why is it that women
can’t chip in at all when they
want equality in every other
part of life? How can I handle
this? I want to continue to
date but don’t want to go
broke doing so.
No doubt, you’ll en-counter womenwho are simply af-ter a good meal.
Many female clients havetold me they go out with anew guy several nights aweek just to get a free din-ner. Don’t be a victim tosuch gold-digging. Pay forthe first date if you initiateit. No need to take some-one to an expensive restau-rant on a first date. The fo-cus should be on getting toknow the other person, not judging each other byhow much is spent.
Subsequent dates, though, aren’t that clear-cut. A man paying for datesis deeply rooted in tradi-tion and widely accepted
social etiquette. On theother hand, dating pres-ents an opportunity forwomen to assert their de-sire for equality and tomove away from 1950sthinking. Men and womenthen find themselves in abit of a conundrum. Somepeople might think, “Ifwomen want equal pay forequal work, then theyshould contribute the
same across the board.” If aman asks a woman to chipin on a date, she mightthink he’s cheap or unin-terested. If a woman offersto pay, he might think shedoesn’t want anythingmore than a friendship. Ifthe man accepts thewoman’s offer, he mightfeel emasculated and shemight think he’s cheap.
If you really like her,ask her out again. Ifmoney is an issue, simply go for a drink,
coffee or something af-fordable. Consider some-thing that won’t breakthe bank, like cooking athome, an outdoor activityor watching a movie. Ex-plain that you’re open toother activities to get toknow her so long as shecan contribute. If shesnubs you, then you knowshe isn’t the girl for you.If she is open to alterna-tive activities or chippingin, then you’ve got your-self an understandingpartner who might beworth pursuing.

Love him or hate him,Broncos quarterback TimTebow is a challenge.

“You have to bring himdown. A guy like him is sogood at breaking tackles, itis hats to the football,” de-fensive end Aaron Maybinsaid. “You can’t bring himdown with one tackler; youneed to get on him. He’sthat strong; he’s a big guyyou have to wrap him up.”
Tebow can run the balland pull up to make a pass, giving him the ability tohurt defenses that key inon his running ability toomuch.
“If you pull up as a line-backer thinking he’s goingto do one thing, he canhurt you the other way,”linebacker Jamaal Wester-man said.

JASON [email protected] O
f course you remember whenJohnson’s Broncos stunnedOklahoma in one of thewildest bowl games of the lastdecade, but this week an NFL
player scored a touchdown and ran togive his girlfriend — a cheerleader onthe opposing team — the ball.
In the Bills-Cowboys game Sunday, the crowd was stunned by what wentdown, and the announcers, who appar-ently don’t read sports blogs, had noclue what was going on.
David Nelson plays for the Bills. He’sfrom Texas and went to the Universityof Florida. Kelsi Reich is his girlfriend, and she’s a cheerleader for the Cowboys.
After Nelson scored he jogged downthe sideline toward his girlfriend. Thecamera operator seemed to know whatwas up, but the announcers were clue-less about the whole thing.
Reich hopped on Twitter Sunday andshowed everyone the ball, proclaimingshe was the “happiest girl in the world.”
Uninformed vs. ‘fans’I lobbied the editor of this space to
get in a word about the lurid Penn Statescandal. How can I not at least addresswhat is the biggest scandal in the his-tory of college sports? I’ll try to be suc-cinct in my two points on the subject.
There are two groups of people chim-ing in on this sordid tale: Those whohave read the 23-page grand jury report(they’re informed), and those who
haven’t (they’re uninformed). While the report is detailed, it does not
include everyone’s entire testimony. It didcontain enough detail to press chargesagainst former Penn State defensive coordi-nator Jerry Sandusky though.
At the same time, there are two othergroups of people who feel compelled totalk about the topic: college football “fans”and people who have zero connection tothe sport besides maybe having heard ofJoe Paterno prior to the scandal.
A large portion of college football “fans,”for whatever reason, find it hard to believea coverup could take place. Most of thesepeople have not read the grand jury report.
People who live in a worldunaware 107,000 peoplepack Beaver Stadiumevery game think every-one involved in the scan-dal knew what wasgoing on and, disgust-ingly, did nothing.

AN INDECENT PROPOSAL?This weekend we had perhaps thebest football player/cheerleaderon-field moment since BoiseState’s Ian Johnson proposed tohis cheerleader girlfriend.

Replacement windows are in the budget this year.In our current economy, some folks have put off replacing their windows, but with 0% FREE financing for five years, you can’t afford to put it off any longer. There isn’t a bank around where you can borrow money without paying interest, but that’s exactly what we’re offering. Get the replacement windows every homeowner wants, while keeping more of your money in your pocket.
With installers this skilled, we even warranty your installation†.Most companies will warranty their windows—but with a few unpredictable workers— they won’t warranty their installations. Renewal by Andersen Master
Installers only come to your home after they’ve been trained, tested and trusted. With teams that average 10+ years of window installation experience, most installations—including the cleanup—are completed in just one day.
For a strong window that will last, look to the company that has lasted.Renewal by Andersen is the exclusive start-to-finish replacement window subsidiary of Andersen Windows—a company with a 108 year reputation for quality. Our replacement windows are held to Andersen’s same high standard,
while some other, less reliable windows have been reported to leak and fail after just a few years.

The M34 now has Select Bus Service.Life got a little easier yesterday. That’s when Select Bus Service (SBS) began on the M34 route, giving riders better service and improved travel time along 34th Street.
The M34 SBS has a dedicated, strictly enforced bus-only lane. You pay before boarding at special sidewalk kiosks, then board through any door. Plus, SBS buses run more frequently than the M34 limited buses they replace. And they even control the traffic signal at 7th Avenue . . . a critical bottleneck.
For the 18,000 of you who ride the M34 every day, trips could be up to 20% faster. Look for the buses with flashing blue LED lights.
For more information, visit mta.info. 34th Street yesterday. More miracles tomorrow.
