News from
The Parish Library
Today we are showcasing another book written by
Pope Benedict XVI (Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger).
God Is Near Us is a book about the Eucharist, the
heart of life. It consists of a collection of lectures,
pastoral letters and homilies on the heart of the
Christian faith. It restores the Eucharist to the center of
Catholic piety and devotion. I found this book very
enlightening.
This book can be found on shelf #18 Popes / Papal
Writings.
Review by Vicki
In addition 3 other books by Pope Benedict XVI are
on shelf #18: Jesus of Nazareth, Ratzinger Report, and
Feast of Faith.
Pope Benedict has written many more books. If you
have one in your home please consider donating it to
the library.
The Parish Library, located in the rectory basement,
is always open when the rectory is open.
Food Pantry Items of the Week
Our supplies of coffee and canned mixed fruit are
very low. Your donations to our Food Pantry are
truly appreciated.
Thank you from all the families who share from
your kindness and generosity!

What a wonderful opportunity to strengthen your
personal relationship with God! A time to experience
parish life at its best. You will come as an individual
and leave as a family.
Mark your calendar now! You will not regret that
you chose to join women from the parishes of Little
Flower, Our Lady of Peace and St. Teresa’s for this
unique and enriching experience. Watch the bulletin
for further Cornerstone information. Questions may be
directed to Fr. Charles, Gusmer, Cornerstone Spiritual
Directory, 908-464-7600, or team members, Carol
Skrocki, 908-464-8156 and Mary Ann Narciso, 908-
219-4006.
Prayer Shawls Available
Prayer shawls are hand crafted for those in need of
comfort and strength. Prayer shawl ministers knit or
crochet each shawl while praying for the recipient,
whoever that may be. Before beginning, and after the
completion of each shawl, a special blessing prayer is
said asking God to send strength and healing to
whomever receives each shawl.
Next OLP prayer shawl ministers meeting will be
on Wednesday, February 2nd
, at 7:00 p.m. Directions
and yarn are available and we can help you get started.
Most of the work is done at home, at our convenience.
We meet only three times a year to pray and share our
experiences. Please call Gail Seely for details at 908-
464-4109.

Knights of Columbus- Summit Council 783
Proudly Serving the Parishes of: St. Teresa of Avila - Our Lady of Peace - Little Flower
Summit Council 783 Knights Corner
“When you do this for the least of your brethren, you do it unto me”; words from our Lord.
Each month, a group of Summit Knights and other church parishioners visits Saint John’s soup kitchen on the second Thursday to serve the noon meal and on the second Saturday to make and serve breakfast to the homeless and unfortunate in the Newark area. With other soup kitchens closing this past year, the number being fed has nearly doubled. During a typical noon meal we serve a full dinner to about 400 people. The Knights of Columbus started a Saint John’s Fund several years ago and some of our parishioners and Knights have contributed regularly to the fund. In the last several years we have brought about $8500 in food to the soup kitchen. Because of the increase in numbers being fed, our funds are nearly depleted. Please consider making a donation as a New Year’s offering to feed the homeless.
Make your checks to Knights of Columbus, Summit council 783 and in the memo section write Saint John’s fund.
Also if you would like to participate on a Thursday for the noon meal or early on a Saturday morning serving breakfast, call Jim Gallo at 908-464-1861. Donations can be mailed to Jim Gallo, 52 Greenwood Road, New Providence, NJ 07974. Jim has been leading the soup kitchen ministry since 1999. Make a difference-Get involved!

PRAYING WITH ICONS
Icons are religious images, primarily of Christ, but also of Mary and the saints. They are
painted in a conventional model of symbolism and are visual expressions of a deeper reality.
Sr. Antonia Cooper will guide us through a brief background and history of icons, including
the theology of the symbols and colors. Using two of her own icons, Sr. Antonia will share
the process of “writing an icon” in the Russian tradition. Each participant will have an
opportunity to spend some time in interior solitude with the “prayer of gazing” before an
icon.
Tuesday, February 8, 2011
7:30 – 9:30 p.m., Parish Hall
Presented by Sister Antonia Cooper, OSF
Space is limited to 30 participants/registration encouraged
Sister Antonia Cooper, OSF, is a Franciscan Servant of the Holy Child Jesus, a Spiritual
Director, a practitioner of holistic modalities, and enjoys various forms of art.
Please return this form to the Catechetical Office located in the rectory.
You may also register by email ([email protected])
or by phoning the Catechetical Office at 908-464-8156.
