To all our 2011 Campers and Staff,

For so many of our campers and staff that live throughout the USA we are sure that the warm days of summer will be welcomed following record breaking snowfall and cold temperatures throughout most of the country.

As you read through the pages of this issue of our Spectacle Newsletter you will see that there are many things which we celebrate with congratulations and one article which causes us pause for heartfelt reflection.

In the spirit of congratulations we would like to let you know that Tom Troche who for 14 years has served KenMont and KenWood as Associate Director and Boys’ Camp Head Counselor has now been given the ultimate promotion in camping to joining us as the camp’s Director. For both our campers and staff who are so familiar with Tom being out and about camp throughout the summer, he will now, in his new role of Director be able to have even more time to interact with all of you day and night! Congratulations as well to Julie Brown who returns to KenWood for her 9th season this summer with the fantastic promotion to KenWood Head Counselor. Joining our other KenWood Head Counselors we know that our campers will have a fantastic time with Julie as result of her great spirit, her caring and her love of camp. Finally, we welcome Stuart Schultz to camp for Summer 2011 taking over Tom’s role as KenMont Head Counselor. Stu’s awesome personality combined with his many years of camp experience are sure to bring more of the fantastic energy and enthusiasm that makes KenMont such a special boys’ camp.

On a note of heartfelt sorrow that we cannot help but share with those who have been to KenMont and KenWood Camps, the news that our beloved staff member Daryl Kunesh recently passed away. Daryl’s never ending enthusiasm for camp, our campers and his fellow staff will forever be in our hearts and minds.

We can’t wait for summer to arrive for us to welcome each and every one of you to KenMont and KenWood Summer 2011!

Our Love to all,

Sharon and David

Hello KenMont and KenWood Campers!

We hope all of you are enjoying the winter months and counting down the days until the first day of camp!! We also hope all of you in the Northeast have taken advantage of all the snow and have gone skiing, snowboarding or just plain old sledding. Before you know it, you’ll be out of your winter coats and swimming in North Spectacle Lake!

All of us at the Miami office have been spending our winter months planning new events and activities that will no doubt make Summer 2011 the most exciting and memorable one yet! Soap Box Derby Day is sure to please as well as the other special activities we are planning that will put big smiles on your faces.

As for our little campers at home, Jake and Olivia, they are growing up so fast and doing great. Jake was on a soccer team in the fall and is currently playing t-ball – which he likes very much. He loves everything about kindergarten and enjoys doing his homework – let’s hope that lasts! Olivia has been enrolled in gymnastics since September and enjoys

tumbling and jumping every chance she gets! She loves her pre-school program and runs into the building every morning! We have also kept busy as a family - we have gone to the circus, taken many road trips and let’s not forget all the play dates, birthday parties and hours spent at the neighborhood parks. We also have a surprise trip planned to DisneyWorld which will be a huge highlight for the kids (and don’t tell anyone, we are looking forward to it too!)

We are very excited about an upcoming trip to Halifax, Canada to attend Ross Dwyer’s and Lori Beth MacEwen’s wedding (two of our former staff members who met at camp.) We are going with David and Sharon as well as Mike Pogemiller and Julie Brown and are all looking forward to the big event and are expecting to see many of our current and former staff there; it is going to be a wonderful reunion.

Counting the days until we see all of you!

Tom and Michele

“Good morning KenMont and KenWood Campers” exclaimed that perfect radio broadcasting DJ voice resounding throughout our camper cabins every morning for the past 9 summers! It was none other than Daryl Kunesh, our Radio Broadcasting Director, starting our day at camp with his ever wonderful song selections and challenging radio contests. Teaching our campers, both boys and girls alike, the art of choosing and mixing hit music tunes and blending their voices into their very own radio shows. It was Daryl who turned our camps Radio Program from a little known entity into one of the most popular programs at camp. And then to the great surprise of all we discovered that Daryl had his own set of golden pipes, (an awesome singing voice), which he would share with our campers and staff at special events from time to time each and every summer. The result of hearing Daryl’s great singing voice was inevitably a standing ovation from

all those in earshot. As camp grew over the years of Daryl’s tenure, so did his role at camp expanding his creativity and expertise into giving birth to our Media Arts department, once again creating giant smiles on the faces of campers who participated in these new imaginative activities at camp. And what would camp have been for Daryl and for the rest of us, if he was not joined at camp each summer by his very special wife Linda and incredible son Nick, all attached at the hip and each in their own way making KenMont and KenWood Camps all the better with their contributions of talent and friendship. And so it is, Daryl, for all of your Good Morning Radio Shows, for all the awesome songs you sang to us, and for all you did to open up the imaginations and creativity of our campers - we will always remember you, always miss you, and always love you.
