Dale Starr enters his second season as the head coach of the Robert Morris University volleyball team.  In  Starr’s  first  season  with  the  Colonials, he continued the proud tradition of RMU volleyball. He led Robert Morris to its 12th-consecutive NEC Tournament, the longest active streak in the league, on the strength of a 13-3 mark in league play as the Colonials defeated every team in the conference at least once. Starr then guided his squad to a victory over six-time defending NEC champion Long Island in the conference tournament semifinals, eliminating the Blackbirds in a thrilling, five-set match. With the win, RMU competed in its 13th league championship match, extending its own conference record. RMU’s 2010 successes were due, in part, to a dominant team blocking effort, an area which Starr completely overhauled in his first season with the program. Robert Morris averaged 2.66 blocks per  set,  finishing  among  the  top  seven percent nationally, and was only outblocked by its opponents twice all season. The Colonials posted at least 11 blocks in seven consecutive matches in the middle of the season and recorded an amazing 19 rejections in their postseason victory over Long Island.

Two of Starr’s student-athletes claimed first team all-conference honors in 2010 and a total of four claimed weekly honors from the NEC.  One of the highlights for Starr’s first season may have come off the court when senior captain  Amanda  Graham  became  the  first female student-athlete in RMU history to

earn Academic All-America honors. Graham proceeded to collect her second-consecutive NEC Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and was also previously named a national semifinalist for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award in August 2010. Graham’s teammates followed her lead as 11 of the 12 Colonials on the roster were named to the NEC Academic Honor Roll in Starr’s first season. Starr brought a vast background in collegiate coaching to Robert Morris, having served as the head coach at McNeese State University for six years (2004-2010) and the head coach at Division II Mississippi University for Women (1999-2002). He also has experience working as an assistant coach at the University of Tennessee at Martin (1998-1999; 2003-2004) and Boise State University (2002-2003). While at McNeese State, Starr recorded an overall record of 96-81 and a league record of 57-43 in the Southland Conference. In 2006, he guided his team to a Southland Conference East Division Championship. During his tenure, he coached five teams to conference tournaments, with  three  of  them  making  semi-final appearances. He coached eight All-SLC players,

six All-Louisiana players, the 2004 Louisiana Player of the Year, the 2009 Louisiana Freshman of the Year and the 2004 SLC Newcomer of the Year. He also coached  the program’s  first ever AVCA Sports Imports National Player of the Week in 2004. His teams also performed strongly on the academic spectrum with 19 players earning All-Southland Conference Academic honors. Additionally, his team was honored with a player on the Academic All-American Second Team in 2006, a first for the program. Prior to his appointment with McNeese State, Starr spent one season with the two-time defending Ohio Valley Conference Champions, the University of Tennessee at Martin, and a season as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator for Boise State.  He  captured  his  first  head  coaching experience at the Mississippi University for

Women, where he coached three First Team Academic All-Americans and six All-Gulf South Conference players. He led his team to a third-place  finish  in  the  GSC  West  Division  and  a berth in the GSC Tournament for the first time since 1996. He finished with an overall record of 50-47 in three seasons. Starr began his career at the University of Tennessee at Martin in 1998 and was the only assistant for a team that set school records for wins in a season (15) and conference wins in a season (8). Before beginning his collegiate debut, Starr worked as a head coach at Eagle Valley High School, Highland High School and Colorado Extreme Volleyball Club and also worked as a volunteer assistant for his alma mater, the University of Northern Colorado. Starr and his wife Michelle have two daughters, Kalee and Madison.

Sarah Kaczuk enters her second season as the assistant coach of the Robert Morris University volleyball team.  In  Kaczuk’s  first  season with  the  Colonials, she helped continue the proud tradition of RMU volleyball. She helped Robert Morris qualify for its 12th-consecutive NEC Tournament, the longest active streak in the league, on the strength of a 13-3 mark in league play as the Colonials defeated every team in the conference at least once. Kaczuk helped guide RMU to a victory over six-time defending NEC champion Long Island in the conference tournament semifinals,  eliminating  the  Blackbirds  in  a thrilling,  five-set  match.  With  the  win,  RMU competed in its 13th league championship match, extending its own conference record. RMU’s 2010 successes were due, in part, to a dominant team blocking effort. Robert Morris averaged 2.66 blocks per set,  finishing among the top seven percent nationally, and was only outblocked by its opponents twice all season. The Colonials posted at least 11 blocks in seven consecutive matches in the middle of the season and recorded an amazing 19 rejections

in their postseason victory over Long Island. Kaczuk coached two student-athletes who were named to the All-NEC First Team in 2010 as a total of four claimed weekly honors from

the NEC throughout the season. Kaczuk brought both a collegiate playing background and noteworthy coaching experience to the Colonials. She began her collegiate volleyball career at Ashland University, playing for the Eagles during the 2005 season. After transferring to Kent State, she played for the Golden Flashes in 2007 and 2008, helping KSU finish 35-28 over those two seasons. Kaczuk played in 21 matches and finished  fourth  on  her  team  with  1.66  digs/game in 2008. She graduated from Kent State in December 2008 with a degree in business management. Kaczuk, a native of Solon, Ohio, began her coaching career in 2006, assisting with teams from Renaissance Volleyball Club in Cleveland, Ohio, and Summit Volleyball Club in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. In the two years prior to her appointment, she served as a head coach of numerous youth teams within these clubs. neC Championships

Robert Morris has played in 13 NEC Championship matches, the most among all conference schools, claiming seven league tournament titles. With each of the past  five  tournament championships,  the Colonials have earned a berth  into  the NCAA Tournament as well. RMU has topped the NEC regular-season standings in six seasons and has posted an undefeated league record on five of those occasions. Since the NEC began crowning a regular-season title in 1994, the Colonials have registered a 121-34 (.781) mark, including an incredible 100-16 (.862) record in the past 12 seasons. Furthermore, since 1992, Robert Morris has more than twice as many wins than losses in NEC Tournament action as it has racked up 33 victories against just 16 defeats in this stretch.
