  • INVITATION On behalf of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Association of Taiwan, the BOD Members of Asia Pacific Forum, and the Local Organizing Committee, we are delighted to welcome you to participate in the ITS Asia Pacific Forum & Exhibitions from 8th to 10th, June 2011 at the famous Grand Hi-Lai Arena in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

    The purpose of this event is to create a platform where planners, engineers, government officials, stakeholders, and experts of ITS fields from the Asia Pacific region and the world can join together to share their knowledge and experience in the deployment and implementation of ITS.

    Speakers at the cutting edge are invited to share their expertise from regional and global perspectives on those topics that are hotly discussed around the world. We also invite them to be facilitators of small group discussions to help in advancing the boundaries further for ITS.

    This is also a great time to welcome you to visit beautiful Taiwan and experience its multifaceted culture and the hospitality of the people. Taiwan is an exciting destination for travelers from all parts of the world, with its lively and vibrant cities, its countryside of soaring mountains, the deep, lush valleys, and the delicious cuisine that has no rival for its variety and its ability to satisfy even the most fastidious gourmets.

    Kaohsiung is the second largest city and is located in the southern part of Taiwan. Founded in the 17th century, the port city now has a population of 1.5 million and is famous for its fresh seafood, the beautiful Love River, open air coffee shops with live performances, and wild monkeys that reside on the Ape Hill. Kaohsiung is also the southern terminal station of the new High Speed Rail (HSR) system, which connects to the other major cities including Taipei.

  • GENERAL INFORMATION About Taiwan

    Business hours

    Most business concerns in Kaohsiung operate on a five - day work week. Government offices

    are generally open between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM with a 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM lunch break,

    Monday through Friday, except on public holidays. Private businesses maintain much the

    same hours perhaps 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM with certain exceptions. Many stores open 12

    hours a day, seven days a week. There are also efficient business centers available if you are

    in business in Taiwan for a few days.

    Currency exchange

    Exchange facilities for cash and travelers checks are available in banks, hotels, and foreign

    exchange booths located in tourist areas.

    Clothing

    Light, loose cotton clothing is best. Nylon should be avoided. Sweaters are needed during cool

    season evenings or if visiting mountainous areas and remote national parks.

    Electricity

    Taiwan uses electric current of 110 volts at 60 cycles; appliances from Europe, Australia or

    South-East Asia will need an adaptor or transformer. Many buildings have sockets with 220

    volts, especially for the use of air conditioners.

    Postal services

    Sending letters or packages to any desired destination is convenient for visitors to Taiwan.

    Post offices as well as most hotels offer good postal services.

    Taxis

    Public taxis cruising through the streets have time and distance-based meters for determining

    fares.

    Telephone & Fax

    In Taiwan, you can contact virtually any city in the world without difficulty. International

    phone calls, telegraph, telex, and bureau fax services are available in most hotels. Taiwans

    mobile phone service providers have international roaming agreements with most countries.

  • Taiwan currency

    The New Taiwan Dollar (NTD) is the currency of Taiwan has five denominations in paper

    money and five in coins. Paper money has values of NT$2000, NT$1000, NT$500, NT$200,

    and NT$100 denominations, and coins are provided in NT$50, NT$20, NT$10, NT$5 and NT$1

    denominations.

    Tipping

    It is customary to tip hotel personnel who have given good personal service. A 10% tip is

    appreciated in restaurants, particularly where the service charge is waived.

    Transportation

    Transportation from and to the airport is easy, since a number of inexpensive metered taxis

    can be found outside the airport. Make sure the driver turns on the meter (Starting fare of

    NT$70) and note that an additional toll has to be paid for taking the Expressway. Moreover,

    there is an airport bus going to town as well.

    Travelers checks / credit cards

    Many of Taiwan's local stores do not receive Traveler's Checks. Therefore, travelers who have

    Traveler's Check are advised to exchange for NT dollars. Banks, restaurants, hotels and shops

    accept major international credit cards, such as American Express, MasterCard and VISA.

    Visa Free period for visiting Taiwan

    30 days (90 days for Japanese, U.K., Ireland and New Zealand passport holders), the duration

    of stay starts from the next day of arrival and is not extendable. Visa-exempt entry cannot be

    converted to other types of visas. For any further information, please visit the website of the

    Bureau of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

    Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands ,New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia , Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, U.K. , U.S.A. and Vatican City State. Passport holders of India, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, who also possess a valid visa or permanent residence certificate issued by U.S.A., Canada, Japan, U.K., Schengen Convention countries, Australia or New Zealand.

    Note: Please check the period of stay stamped in your passport upon entry into Taiwan.

    During the Exhibition period, exhibitors will have access to the hall 1 hour before the opening

    and half an hour after the closing hours to service their stands or exhibits. For exhibitors who

    require access beyond the given hour, please contact the show manager in advance.

    Admission for visitors

    Free Admission for professionals, trade, business visitors and general public. The organizer

    reserves the right to refuse admission or to remove any person without prior notice. This

    applies also to the build up and dismantling periods.

    Exhibitors are advised to nominate the names of their trade / prospective customers for the

    organizer to send a trade invitation card. Trade visitors will be required to fill in the form

    before arrival as to save valuable time and submit them at the counter upon arrival at the

    exhibition hall.

    Exhibitor Badges and Registration

    Exhibitor badges are only meant for exhibitors and their staff manning the booth during the

    exhibition. For security reasons, exhibitors and their personnel are requested to wear their

    passes at all times during the exhibition.

    Exhibitor Badges will be issued to all exhibitors and staff manning their booth in accordance

    with the list of names given on form 4 Exhibitor Name Badge. Exhibitors are requested to

    make their First Stop at Exhibitor Registration Counter when they arrive on site, to collect

    their badges.

    Contractor and Unofficial Contractor Badges

    For the purpose of stand construction and moving of exhibits, badges will be issued by the

    show manager permitting those approved contractors and their workmen to enter the

    exhibition hall during the build up and dismantling period only. A limited number of standby

    badges may be issued in case a contractor has a valid reason to be present during the

    exhibition period (e.g. maintenance, remedial purposes, etc.). Please kindly claim your

    badges at the registration counter and loading doors.

    For security reasons, contractors and their workmen must wear their badges when in the

    exhibition hall at all times.

  • Exhibition Regulations

    Booth Cleaning The organizer is responsible for daily cleaning of public areas and passageway only. Exhibitors have to take care of the cleanliness of their own booths.

    Security and Insurance While every reasonable precaution is taken in regard to ground security, the organizer accepts no responsibility for any loss or damage which may befall the person or property of the exhibitor regardless of cause. Exhibitors are also advised to insure their exhibits for the time their goods are in storage. The organizer is not liable for any damage, loss, distress or harm caused to any person or to any persons property on the exhibition ground regardless of cause.

    Exhibit Limitations A large freight elevator is 250cm high, 260cm wide and has a depth of 550cm, and the loading should not exceed 5 tons. The other two middle-size freight elevators are 230cm high and 220cm wide and 240cm deep, and the loading should not exceed 3 tons. The entrance of the Exhibition Hall is 190cm high and 170cm wide. The floor loading for the whole building should not exceed 500 kg/m2. To facilitate access trucks, show goods or decorations should be disassembled into components. The exhibitor has the responsibility to pay for any damage caused during construction. Two exhibitors badges are allotted for each booth. These serve as entry passes to the Exhibition Hall and must be worn for entry into the showground. Additional booth staff registration is available at NTD 12,000 each. Please see the Sponsor and Exhibitor Application Form. Exhibitors are not permitted to erect booth partitions of over 250 cm in height. Advertising materials such as signs, posters and other advertising decorations can be extended to a height of 400 cm. Exhibitors must remove all exhibits from the Exhibition Hall within the move-out period stipulated by the Congress Secretariat. Exhibitors will be held responsible for any loss or damage to Exhibition Hall due to delayed removal.

    For safe guarding the rights and benefits of sponsors / exhibitors, management principle of sponsorship depends on the

    First 30% of the payment shall be paid before March 31, 2011.

    Regulations The remaining 40% will be due on May 15, 2011.
