M E S S A G E F R O M T H EM E S S A G E F R O M T H EECONOMIC & TOURISMECONOMIC & TOURISMDEVELOPMENT OFFICEDEVELOPMENT OFFICEDid You Know?Georgina is geographically the largestmunicipality in York Region, the municipality iscomprised of a number of lakefront communities, small rural hamlets and three larger communitiesKeswick, Sutton/Jacksons Point and Pefferlaw.Keswick is the largest community with more than26,000 residents, representing more than halfof Georginas 2010 population of approximately47,000. Georgina is expected to grow to apopulation of approximately 71,000 by the year2031. Existing Planning policies require that this

growth occur within the existing serviced areas ofKeswick and Sutton/Jacksons Point and that avariety of housing stock be available for our futureresidents.

In preparation for the growth that is to occur, infrastructure improvements are underway.Construction of the Highway 404 extensionfrom Green Lane to Keswick is expected to becompleted in 2012. This extension of Hwy 404,together with the widening of Woodbine Avenueto four lanes from Ravenshoe Road to Morton

Avenue, will provide excellent road access and

improve traffic circulation for the existing andproposed commercial development on theWoodbine Corridor and reduce travel times toCanadas largest market, the GTA.

The Town of Georgina is dedicated to facilitatinglocal economic growth and prosperity. The Townhas endorsed an Economic Strategy that willhelp direct the actions of the Towns EconomicDevelopment office as we prepare for the future.

This Strategy recognizes the importance ofstrengthening our existing business community, attracting employment generating land usesto the Keswick Business Park, expanding ourtourism sector and attracting new entrepreneurs.

In order to develop actions plans that willfurther these strategic directions, the Townof Georgina is in the implementation stage ofthe recent Business Retention and Expansionproject and is seeking to partner with localorganization to promote the growth of the existingbusiness community through joint networkingand marketing, downtown revitalization and

    entrepreneur attraction.

In 2009 the Town of Georgina the Towndesignated 550 acres on the east side ofWoodbine Avenue at the terminus of the Hwy. 404extension for the development of the KeswickBusiness Park. These lands will provide theopportunity for Georgina to accommodate moreindustries and small businesses. These lands areheld by private development interests, and areintended to develop in phases. Owners of the firstphase are currently in the process of preparingthe background studies required to submit

development applications for their lands. Oncethese applications are processed and approvedstaff will begin to work with the owners to marketthese lands.

Recognizing the unique cultural experience andthe opportunities for enhancing the Tourismsector, the Towns manager of Culture is in themidst of a cultural planning exercise. This is aprocess of creating an inventory of our cultural

asset and a greater awareness of the ability theseassets have to help shape the social and economihealth of our Town. Whether it be the LakSimcoe shoreline, rural landscape, small distinccommunities, recreational activities or festivaland events they are currently underappreciatedThis process will culminate in an on line inventorof Georginas Cultural assets. The success of thesTown initiatives and others requires the support othe residents and the business community, if yowish to participate please contact the EconomicDevelopment Division.

This guide has been developed by the Economi

Development Division to encourage residents andvisitors to Get out and Discover Georgina. Take aafternoon and attend one of the many festival anevents available in your community.
