ELITE ROAD

SuperSix is the bike that everyone has been talking about, the same bike that won the 2010 Giro d’Italia, 2009 King of the Mountains title at the Tour de France and the Best Young Rider and Green jerseys at the Tour of California. This is a bike that was developed by racers for racers, and the results speak for themselves. Whether you race for a living or dream of racing, SuperSix is your ride.

Cannondale bikes have always been known for having a special, lively road feel that makes them feel like an extension of your body. Cannondale engineers worked exhaustively in our labs and with our racers to ensure that the SuperSix retains this magic feeling and avoids the dead, wooden sensation of so many other carbon frames.

It is relatively easy to make a light frame or a stiff frame, a durable frame or a comfortable frame. The magic lies in being able to combine and balance all of these elements in a package that delivers on all fronts, that becomes more than the sum of its parts, that becomes special. SuperSix is that frame.

Technology highlighTS

1. Light And Stiff Extremely lightweight (890 g for the hi-MoD) with great lateral and torsional stiffness but with an incredible road feel and liveliness often lost in carbon frames.

2. Monocoque Front Triangle With Optimized Carbon LayupThe seat stay and chain stay assemblies are each molded as a single piece with precise radius-matched interfaces for the main triangle. Precise radius matching allows for maximum contact and support with the mating surface.

3. Co-Cured JointsFront triangle, stay assemblies and size-specific alloy-faced full carbon dropouts, are joined by co-curing/carbon overwrapping: layers of carbon fiber are placed around the joint according to a precise layup schedule designed to maximize strength and stiffness. More complex and expensive but lighter, stiffer and stronger than lugged or internal lugged junctions found on many other carbon frames.

4. BeatBoxMassively oversized BeatBox BB area delivers torsional rigidity needed to turn the twisting loads from the cranks into forward momentum.

5. Asymmetric Chain StaysThe driveside chain stay is oversized and shaped to resist the axial loads of the drivetrain, while the non-driveside chain stay has optimized material placement for weight saving and power transfer.

6. Hourglass Seat StaysHourglass stays allow the vertical compliance necessary to maintain confident control over less-than-perfect surfaces, and the comfort required to be able to deliver maximum performance after long days in the saddle.

7. Deep Radius Head TubeDeep radius head tube increases the cross section of the crucial top tube/down tube/head tube junction for incredible torsional rigidity, and positions the lower headset bearing in line with the down tube for added strength. Molded carbon headset cups replace aluminum for weight savings.

8. Tapered Steerer Full Carbon ForkThe full carbon fork with a 1-1/8" to 1-1/2" tapered carbon steerer provides incredible strength and maximum torsional stiffness for precise steering and wicked sprinting.

9. Oversized Down TubeOversized 61 mm diameter down tube is rounded where it meets the BB for maximum torsional stiffness.

10. Ovalized Top TubeLaterally ovalized top tube for increased rigidity while cornering and sprinting.

Developed by racers for racers. Proven on the roads of the Tour de France, raced to victory everywhere. Where engineering becomes art.

11. BB30 SystemFound on all SuperSixes, BB30 is the epitome of System integration. Cannondale invented the BB30 standard 10 years ago to take crank and frame performance to the next level and our Hollowgram SL crankset remains the lightest, stiffest production crankset on the market.

SizeS: 48, 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, 60, 63

A worD ABouT cArBon The Cannondale SuperSix uses unidirectional carbon fiber throughout. This allows our engineers to fine tune the directional strength of carbon – its anisotropic properties – to maximize performance depending upon the loads and characteristics

in each tube.

While other bike manufacturers use woven fibers, we prefer not to use it for two reasons:

1. Any kind of woven fibers – take the shirt you’re wearing, for example – has a bit of give or stretch to it. The last thing that sprinters want when they’re headed for the line is a frame that has a bit of give as the fibers expand and then contract. This kind of performance robs valuable energy that could otherwise be used to drive the bike forward. No one wants a bike that’s designed like their shirt.

2. Woven carbon fiber puts the fibers at 90 degrees to one another, which can negate any ability to fine tune carbon’s performance. When paired with sophisticated engineering and lay-up, unidirectional fibers allow us to precisely control a tube’s directional stiffness. This keeps you tracking true through the turns and maximizes every watt of power in the sprints and climbs.

CAAD10

The eVoluTion of AluMinuM DoMinAnce Cannondale knows a thing or two about aluminum. We started this whole high performance aluminum thing back in 1983 when we introduced a road touring frame that shocked the world with its light weight and unrivaled efficiency. From that point on, each new generation of our CAAD (Cannondale Advanced Aluminum Design) frames has redefined the state of the art for aluminum road cycling technology, winning several Giro d’Italia titles, multiple Tour de France stages and countless town line sprints. Our CAAD9 frame is revered by many, spoken of in quiet whispers before the local crit or domestic stage race. To surpass CAAD9’s cult status, widely considered to be the greatest alloy road frame ever made, bar none, our engineers knew they’d have to create something totally off the charts.

inTroDucing A legenD in The MAKing, The cAAD10Weighing in at an unbelievable 1150 grams for a 56 cm frame, complete with hardware, the cAAD10 is not only the lightest aluminum road frame ever created, it’s lighter than most of our competitors’ elite carbon frames. For reference, that’s almost a full half pound (200 g) lighter than the CAAD9!

To make a frame this light, while still retaining the stiffness and superb ride feel of the CAAD9, we had to do some serious clean-sheet thinking. Taking lessons learned in the creation of our revolutionary flash carbon frame, we reshaped, massaged, tweaked and refined every single tube on the frame. Hourglass seat stays are replaced by the lighter, stiffer and smoother SAVe stay system. The powerpyramid down tube is replaced by an oversized down tube that flares dramatically at the head tube, which itself is tapered to accept a 1-1/8" to 1-1/4" carbon steerer fork, resulting in big gains in front end stiffness.

The top tube is massively wide for stiffness, but tapers through the middle for knee clearance. Cannondale’s trademark double-pass smooth welds, internal taper-butted tubing and BB30 System integration round out a package that once again sets the standard for the industry.

Bottom line: you’ve got an aluminum frame that not only corners like a race car in the crits, but also puts the average carbon fiber frame to shame in a stage race.

cAAD10 frAMe Technology

1. Race geometry. Race PerformancecAAD10 is a racer through and through, unlike many of our competitors’ aluminum bikes with geometries that dumb down the delight of riding a high performance aluminum race machine. Engineered for performance, the cAAD10 rides better than most carbon offerings.

2. Oversized Shaped Down TubeThe oversized, round down tube flares to meet the head tube for maximum stiffness.

3. Shaped Top TubeThe massive, horizontally ovalized top tube measures a huge 47.5x42 mm where it meets the head tube, narrows through the middle for knee clearance, then widens again to meet the seat stays.

4. SAvE StaysThe chain stays and seat stays are shaped and butted to allow them to flex vertically but stay extremely stiff laterally. The wide spacing of the seat stays where they meet the top tube improves lateral stiffness.

5. Hollow Forged Brake BridgeLight and stiff, little details like this really add up.

6. Asymmetric Chain StaysThe driveside chain stay is oversized to better resist the loads from the drivetrain, while the non-drive stay is optimized for weight savings.

7. Delta Seat TubeThe 27.2 compatible seat tube is laterally ovalized at the BB for great BB stiffness.

8. Tapered Head TubeThe externally machined, oversized head tube houses a 1-1/8" to 1-1/4" tapered carbon steerer fork.

Performance to the power of x.

9. CAAD10 Carbon ForkThe 1-1/8" to 1-1/4" tapered carbon steerer is lighter than 1.5" tapered forks and stiffer than the 1-1/8" forks. The 300 gram cAAD10 fork also features offset dropouts, allowing more fork angle for vertical compliance without affecting the handling.

10. Smooth WeldsA true smooth weld, rather than the sand, putty, and paint “smooth welds” of our competition, Cannondale’s trademark double-pass smooth weld technology eliminates the stress-risers and weak points found on traditionally welded frames, enabling us to build lighter, stronger frames.

11. Taper-Butted TubesLike the legendary CAAD frames of the past, the cAAD10 features 6069 aluminum which has been taper-butted and heat-treated to a T6 hardness. The smooth transitions provided by taper-butting eliminate the internal stress risers of traditionally-butted frames, again allowing a lighter, stronger frame.

12. BB30 SystemBB30 is the epitome of System integration. Cannondale invented the BB30 standard 10 years ago to take crank and frame performance to the next level.

CAAD8

While for many brands, the entry-level is simply an afterthought, Cannondale realizes that someone’s first bike purchase is often the most important one they’ll ever make.

We sweat the details and draw on decades of aluminum engineering expertise to bring a remarkable level of performance to the entry- level road category. The lightest frame in its class, the Cannondale cAAD8 is packed with features drawn directly from its Giro d’Italia winning ancestors. The trademark smooth double-pass welds, compliant hourglass seat stays, efficient asymmetric chain stays, upright race geometry and unmistakable Cannondale ride-feel make it clear that, rather than being just another aluminum road bike, this is something special.

Finalist in Bicycling magazine’s highly competitive 2010 Editors’ Choice Awards in the Entry-Level Road category.

cAAD (cAnnonDAle ADVAnceD AluMinuM DeSign) 8 frAMe Technology

1. HeadsUp Race geometryThe cAAD8 shares the proven race geometry of its more expensive brethren but with a slightly taller head tube for a more relaxed riding position.

2. Smooth WeldsA true smooth weld, rather than the sand, putty, and paint “smooth welds” of our competition, Cannondale’s trademark double-pass smooth weld technology

eliminates the stress-risers and weak points found on traditionally welded frames, enabling us to build lighter, stronger frames.

3. Hourglass Seat StaysThe hourglass shape of the seat stays offers significant vertical compliance for comfort and control over rough surfaces, while remaining laterally rigid for solid power transfer and confident handling.

4. Asymmetric Chain StaysJust like on our premium race bikes, we oversize and reshape the driveside chain stay to better handle the loads from the drivetrain, while keeping the non-drive stay svelte for weight savings.

5. Externally Machined Head TubeA technique Cannondale has used for years, excess material is precisely machined out of the low stress areas of the head tube, saving significant weight with no loss of strength.

6. Taper-Butted TubesLike the legendary CAAD frames of the past, the cAAD8 features 6061 aluminum which has been taper-butted and heat-treated to a T6 hardness. The smooth transitions provided by taper-butting eliminate the internal stress risers of traditionally butted frames, again allowing a lighter, stronger frame.

TRIATHLOn / TIME TRIAL

When chrissie wellington debuted on the Slice at last year’s Hawaii Ironman World Championships, her unbeaten record at Ironman and back-to-back victories in Hawaii left many onlookers wondering whether there was anything left for her to do in the sport.

With her trademark smile and quiet grace, it seems there was plenty that Chrissie still had to do. Aboard her Slice hi-MoD, she not only averaged over 23 mph for the entire 112-mile bike leg, but came off the bike feeling fresh enough to click off a 3:03:06 marathon, crossing the tape in 8:54:02 and shattering the longstanding women’s course record.

Chrissie has repeatedly said that the smooth ride and light weight of her Slice not only improved her bike splits, but left her feeling fresher for the run as well. She even went so far as to call it “the wind beneath her wings”.

A superb triathlon machine, the Slice is a formidable TT weapon as well as the Liquigas boys proved at the 2010 Giro, powering their Slices to the Team Time Trial win and a Maglia Rosa for Vincenzo nibali.

The Queen K. The lava fields. Ali’i Drive and Palani. World records and the Giro d’Italia.

Slice’d. And diced.

Technology

1. AerodynamicAn ultra narrow frontal area and wind tunnel-proven tube shapes make the Slice one of the most aerodynamic frames ever tested by Tour magazine.

2. Aero Isn’t EnoughAn aerodynamic frame or bike isn’t fast unless a rider can comfortably and consistently stay in the racing position, can be protected from fatigue-producing road vibration and can depend on reliable and precise handling. Slice achieves all of these through the integration of frame material, thoughtful geometry, SAVe vibration elimination technology, and multiple rider set-up options.

3. SAvE Micro-Suspension SystemCannondale’s designers know that all the aerodynamics in the world aren’t worth a thing if you can’t maintain the aero position, or if the ride leaves you so beat up that you can’t put out your best on the run. At the heart of the Slice’s remarkable comfort is the SAVE micro-suspension system. An elegant combination of directional tube shaping and extremely sophisticated carbon layup, the SAVE system allows the rear chain stays and seat stays to deflect together vertically to absorb road shock, while staying extremely stiff laterally and torsionally.

4. Lightest Aero FrameAt 1250 g, the Slice hi-MoD is the lightest production aero frame in the world, with unmatched stiffness-to-weight. Unidirectional high modulus carbon fiber, monocoque and co-cured construction.

5. Stable geometryUnlike the nervous, twitchy handling of some aero frames, the Slice’s geometry is designed to provide stable and confidence inspiring handling while in the aero position, allowing you to relax and focus on your ride.

6. Two Position SeatpostThe two-position Slice seatpost offers a range of effective seat angle adjustment from 73-78 degrees for Triathlon or UCI legal time trial use.

7. BB30 SystemCannondale-developed BB30 technology allows riders to use the lightest and stiffest cranksets on the market. BB30 technology reduces Q-factor for a narrower frontal area and improved aerodynamics and also features ceramic BB bearings for reduced rolling resistance.

SLICE

Slice Women’sNew for 2011, we added a 47 cm size with geometry and features appropriate for smaller riders.

PERFORMAnCE ROAD

When the brutal cobbles of Paris-Roubaix beckon, the Liquigas pro cycling team opt for the smooth ride and stable handling of the Synapse hi-MoD. Winning Bicycling magazine’s “2010 Best Plush Bike” award showed that others are catching the drift as well. Synapse provides all of the frame crafting and weight saving of our highest performance carbon race bikes but appreciates that many riders also need increased comfort features and reliable handling response. The race-tuned, high modulus carbon layup is not only extremely light and torsionally rigid, it also provides a lively, vivid, ride feel that is distinctly Cannondale. The SAVe micro-suspension system of the fork, rear stays and seatpost insulate the rider from the abuse of the road, and the more upright riding position and relaxed geometry deliver a comfortable, confidence-inspiring and sporting ride.

Whether racing the cobbles of the Arenberg forest or simply enjoying your first century or Gran Fondo ride with friends, the Synapse is the perfect blend of race-level performance and all-day comfort.

France’s Top Vélo named the Synapse hi-MoD Cyclo Sportive “2009 Bike of the year.”

A Los Angeles Times comparison of performance models couldn’t find a single “dislike” with the Synapse, declaring it to be the best blend of comfort, light weight, and performance.

Technology

1. Light And StiffExtremely light weight (1180 g for the hi-MoD), with great lateral and torsional stiffness.

2. Monocoque Front TriangleMonocoque front triangle with optimized carbon layup, rear stays and size-specific alloy-faced full carbon dropouts are joined by co-curing/carbon overwrapping. A more complex and expensive process, co-curing creates lighter, stiffer and stronger structures than the lugged or internal lugged junctions found on many other carbon frames.

3. SAvE Rear Stay Micro-Suspension SystemBy flattening and shaping the chain stays and seat stays and carefully manipulating the carbon layup, we create a rear stay assembly that allows significant deflection vertically to absorb road shock and vibration, while staying extremely rigid laterally for power transfer and confident cornering. Complicated and technically demanding to design and build, the resulting system is elegantly simple and doesn’t require the additional weight of bumpers or inserts.

4. Performance geometryCompared with our Elite race geometry, the Synapse geometry features a taller head tube (2-2.5 cm taller), gently sloping top tube, slightly relaxed head angle and longer wheelbase. This combination provides a more upright riding position and a lively, yet stable feel. It’s confidence inspiring and relaxing but avoids the sluggish feel and

go long. Built for the long haul and perfected on the cobbles of northern Europe, Synapse is the ideal combination of responsive performance, light weight and comfort.

awkward handling of many “comfort” road bikes.

5. Full Carbon ForkFull carbon fork from steerer to dropouts, with integrated SAVe features.

6. BB30 SystemBB30 on all carbon Synapses. BB30 is the epitome of System integration. Cannondale invented the BB30 standard 10 years ago to take crank and frame performance to the next level and our Hollowgram SL crankset remains the lightest, stiffest production crankset on the market.

7. Full Carbon SAvE SeatpostFeatures one-piece layup with continuous fibers that extend up the post and surround the seatpost clamp. Designed to deflect slightly to absorb shock without detracting

from performance.

8. Synapse AlloyNot merely an aluminum copy of our Carbon Synapses, the Synapse Alloy series features rack mounts, fender clearance, and long-reach brakes that expand its versatility without sacrificing its sporting soul.

CyCLOCROSS

With the Italian National Cyclocross Champion, Marco Aurelio fontana, and the dominant Cannondale sponsored team of US National Champion Tim Johnson, Jeremy powers and Jamey Driscoll, Cannondale is the force in the world cyclocross scene.

Our legendary CAAD9 ’cross bikes have carried these riders to too many victories over the years to count but when they saw our unbelievable new flash carbon hardtail last year, their reaction was predictable. “Make us a Flash ’cross bike!” Tim, especially, was – how shall we put this – persistent with his suggestions. Relentless is probably a more accurate description.

But we agree. It just makes sense. Cyclocross is the perfect mix of mountain and road disciplines, so why not take the best technology from our new, world-beating flash carbon bike, meld it with some of the best traits of our SuperSix road bikes and wrap it all into a package based on the proven winning geometry of the CAAD9? Sounds impossible to some but for us, it’s a recipe for domination.

’Cross is brutal on equipment. Frames and forks need to handle the vicious terrain, the power of the world’s best athletes at redline, and the continuous pounding of full-on, high speed remounts, so the SuperX is made with the same Tube2Tube construction and burly hammerTime carbon as our flash carbon mountain bikes. Our new 1-1/8" to 1-1/4" tapered steerer full carbon fork is not only featherlight but also brings steering precision and stiffness to unheard of levels, especially under braking loads. The SAVe features in the rear stays allow significant vertical deflection while staying incredibly stiff laterally, keeping the rider in better control and dramatically easing the punishment on the body. SAVe absorbs the shock so that the rider doesn’t have to and, in the full-throttle, keep-it-pinned, tunnel-focus world of cross, that can make all the difference. This bike is lighter, tracks better through stutter bumps, is more controllable when putting down power in rough terrain, steers more precisely, sprints more aggressively and delivers the rider to the finish with more energy than any other ’cross bike out there.

SuperX – At just 1400 g for the frame and fork combined (56 cm), it’s the lightest, stiffest, smoothest ’cross frameset on the planet.

Tim, your bike is calling.

1. HammerTime CarbonOur High-Strength, High-Impact carbon construction, hammerTime ends the traditional connection between ultra-light carbon frames and fragility. Over. Period. End of story.

Ultra high-strength fibers, developed by the Japanese military for ballistic armoring, and impact-resistant hot-melt resins are used as the primary structural materials of the frame while the stiffer but more brittle high-modulus carbon fibers are used strategically in protected locations to enhance stiffness. Lighter and stiffer than aluminum, stronger and more durable than steel, hammerTime carbon can shake off rock strikes and impacts that would cripple the competition and their carbon “shields.”

2. Tube2Tube ConstructionWhen it comes to minimizing weight and maximizing stiffness, our Tube2Tube construction simply can’t be beat. Each tube is individually laid up, orienting the unidirectional fibers precisely to resist the tube-specific loads, then the tubes are joined and overwrapped following an equally precise layup schedule. Time consuming, demanding and expensive, this process yields the lightest, stiffest and strongest results.

3. Continuous CarbonUninterrupted stiffening fibers run the entire length of the top tube and seat stays, distributing loads more evenly throughout the frame.

4. Shape-Optimized TubingStripped down to its bare essentials, each tube represents the maxim of “form follows function”: oversized 53 mm round down tube for maximum torsional rigidity and ovalized Delta seat tube for maximum BB area stiffness. The straight tubing on the SuperX shaves the most weight possible by enabling the carbon fibers to pull absolutely straight, which increases the performance of the fiber.

5. Flat Cross-Section Top Tube The top tube is horizontally ovalized for lateral rigidity and maximum shouldering comfort.

6. Tapered Head TubeThe tapered, oversized head tube houses a 1-1/8" to 1-1/4" tapered carbon steerer fork.

Sheer and Utter Dominance.

7. SAvE vibration Elimination TechnologyThe chain stays and seat stays on the SuperX feature our trademark SAVe technology. Flattened cross-sections and sophisticated carbon layup allows the SAVe features to act like a micro-suspension system, deflecting vertically to absorb trail shock and vibration, while staying extremely rigid laterally for power transfer and confident cornering.

8. BB30 System BB30 is the epitome of System integration. Cannondale invented the BB30 standard 10 years ago to take crank and frame performance to the next level and the SuperX is optimized for BB30 usage.

9. Increased Mud ClearanceThe SuperX frame was designed with even more tire clearance than the CAAD9 frame, to keep you rolling when things get muddy.

CyCLOCROSS

Whether you are jumping into the fall madness of cyclocross or simply looking for a supremely versatile bike for training, commuting or adventuring, the cAADX cyclocross bike is the perfect choice.

Hourglass seat stays, asymmetric chain stays, taper-butted and optimized tubes and our classic double-pass smooth welds all speak to the cAADX’s race-bred heritage, while rack and fender mounts and a slightly more upright position expand its usability.

feATureS

1. Relaxed Race geometryThe cAADX has a slightly taller head tube and slightly slacker head tube angle than the SuperX, providing a more upright position and stable handling.

2. Smooth WeldsA true smooth weld, rather than the sand, putty, and paint “smooth welds” of our competition, Cannondale’s trademark double-pass smooth weld technology eliminates the stress-risers and weakpoints found on traditionally welded frames, enabling us to build lighter, stronger frames.

6. Taper-Butted TubesLike the legendary CAAD frames of the past, the cAADX features 6061 aluminum which has been taper-butted and heat-treated to a T6 hardness. The smooth transitions provided by taper-butting eliminate the internal stress risers of traditionally butted frames, again allowing a lighter, stronger frame.
