Welcome to Orlando, Florida, “The City Beautiful” and home to the 2011 Black Executive Exchange Program ‗s (BEEP) Annual Conference, “BEEP 2011: The C.A.S.E. for Effective Leadership.”

The Central Florida Urban League is an affiliate poised on the brink of greatness. 2010 was filled with epic milestone events and exciting developments that continue to bolster the Urban League mission throughout Central Florida. Among them, the opening of three new locations: CFUL – Washington Shores Service Center; CFUL – Downtown Learning Center; and CFUL – Administrative Office. Nationally, we celebrated the Centennial Anniversary of the National Urban League—commemorating 100 years of being at the forefront of the civil rights movement.

This year has continued to propel us towards greatness! Among our successes is the launching of the Center for Innovation. Based on a vision of empowerment, the CFUL established the ―Center for Innovation‖ as a wrap around betterment program that focuses on providing the employability skills needed to achieve a living wage and an overall enhanced quality of life. This vision has received outstanding long term support from both regional public agencies and our local business partners who look at the CFUL‘s programs as contributing to the establishment of a strong foundation for the long term success of the region.

However, we must keep things in perspective. We know that none of our successes can be accomplished without the support of our corporate, faith-based and community partners. We also acknowledge that our future is in the hands of our cherished youth. BEEP affords us the opportunity to share learning experiences across generations, cultivate new leaders, and inspire achievements "beyond the possible" through committed involvement and operational excellence.

Thank you for participating in this year‘s conference. I commend all the students, professionals, and sponsors who have dedicated their time to making this program and event the success that it has become. We are honored and excited to host you. To The BEEP Family:

To be effective is to be ‘producing a deep and vivid impression; striking;

prepared and available for service.’ The goal of the Black Executive Exchange

Program as we head into our 42nd year of service to students on the campuses

of Historically Black Colleges and Universities is to build on last year’s foundation-

-where we learned to be audacious--in order to lead even more effectively.

Our theme for this week’s conference is “BEEP 2011: The Case For Effective

Leadership,” which will feature topics that explore the different, varied aspects

of leadership, from communication to vision, from service to excellence, arming

us with the tools necessary to lead. We’re excited to be at the JW Marriott

Orlando Grande Lakes in sunny Orlando, Florida, and to share with you a

content-focused, streamlined three days, which will serve as a strong call to

action, with each event highlighting the urgent need for each participant to

continue developing their leadership skills.

ms. margrett L. “gretta” Boley currently serves as forest Supervisor of the 1.2 million acres of national forest land in mississippi. The six national forests in mississippi are spread out in all or part of 32 counties as far north as the tennessee border and as far south as the gulf coast.

ms. Boley is an accomplished leader who has frequently been recognized for meeting and exceeding performance goals of the US forest Service. in 2010, under her leadership, the national forests in mississippi were recog-nized with three prestigious regional foresters’ honors: the Southern region’s ranger district of the Year, the partnership Award, and the American recovery and reinvestment Act Award.

prior to her current position, ms. Boley served as forest Supervisor for the kisatchie national forest in Louisiana. in that role, she initiated a partnership with forest research and the forest health protection branch that led to the implementation of the first regional Biomass

plant that produces energy from wood chips. Energy from the Biomass plant provided power and electricity to one forest district office, park-ing lot lighting and other needs. Surplus energy was sold back to the power grid. The meter actually ran backwards because power was not being used from the electric company. This was a great example of reducing our environmental footprint.

during her distinguished career with the forest Service, ms. Boley has served on many special assignments, including serving as a team member of a national prescribed fire review, as Acting director for civil rights-Southern region, as Acting deputy regional forester- rocky mountain region, and as a team member for the Land care program in South Africa.

ms Boley also has served as Soil Scientist for the Shasta trinity national forest, Appeals and Litigation Specialist in the pacific Southwest region, Budget coordinator for Soil, water & Air Staff in the washington, dc headquarters, and deputy forest Supervisor for the daniel Boone national forests in kentucky. in addi-tion, she has held several positions with other federal agencies, including the natural resource conservation Service and the department of interior’s Bureau of reclamation.

ms. Boley hails from winnsboro, Louisiana. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in plant and Soil Science from Southern University in Louisiana and performed post graduate work in forest soils at the University of Arizona, tucson.

Lucas Boyce is the director of community relations, multicultural insights, cause marketing and government Affairs for the orlando magic, joining the organization in July 2008. his responsibilities include strategic business planning and directing the organiza-tion’s multicultural and community initiatives and diverse outreach. he also oversees the com-pany’s efforts in corporate citizenship, supplier diversity and government affairs.

prior to joining the magic, Boyce served at the white house in the office of political Affairs where he monitored political activ-ity and tracked key races across the plains-Southwest region of the United States. Boyce also coordinated pro-active communication,

public relations and education outreach across diverse communities, constituencies and issues on behalf of the president.

during his tenure at the white house, Boyce also served in the office of public Liaison. in this role, he directed African-American and professional Sports outreach in addition to event related work in the fields of healthcare and economic policy. prior to this, Boyce worked for a public affairs firm in Alexandria, virginia, direct impact, and served in the vice president’s political and communications office.

Allie knows the importance of working together on a unified mission: he served 13 years in the United States marine corps, and was recently appointed by the Secretary of veterans Affairs to serve on the Advisory committee for the center for minority veterans. Allie also been selected to serve as an US Army reserve Ambassador by the chief of the Army reserve. he is relent-less in his quest to strengthen and enhance the Urban League’s programs and services throughout the seven counties that it serves.

Allie came to the Urban League professionally after many years of volunteer service, leaving a position as Senior manager of global Strategies for diversity and inclusion at walt disney parks and resorts. during his first two weeks – a time period in which most are still finding their way around the office – he had already met with several community partners, began an audit of accounting and business practices, streamlined and reorganized departments for greater efficiency, and began to re-establish the Urban League’s reputation as a professional social services provider.

Allie also serves on the Board for Quest, inc., and myregion.org. in may of 2009, he was honored by the general daniel “chappie” James chapter of the tuskegee Airmen, inc. in recognition for his service to the commu-nity. Allie earned his degree in information technology from American intercontinental University. in his spare time, Allie enjoys spending time with his wife, rosemary, and their five children.

Brian Bronson is a manager of corporate and development finance with marriott international, where he is responsible for valu-ing and structuring hotel development transac-tions globally for all marriott Brands as well as providing analytical support to c-level execu-tives including the cEo, president, and cfo. in this role, Brian also assists marriott’s global asset managers in workout and restructuring transactions. mr. Bronson is currently based out of marriott’s headquarters in Bethesda, md. from 2000 to 2008, mr. Bronson worked in rockville, md at rydex investments in various roles including product development, financial control, and mutual fund Accounting.

Throughout the past decade mr. Bronson has been an active volunteer and member of the greater washington Urban League Thursday network (tn). most recently Brian held the elected position of president of tn during the 2008 fiscal Year.

mr. Bronson received his mBA from the University of maryland’s robert h. Smith School of Business in 2008 and a BS in marketing and management from Salisbury University in 1999.

Arthur r. Bryant is a native of Bossier city, Louisiana where he attended public schools in Bossier parish, Louisiana. he graduated from high school with honors and was inducted into the national honor Society.

mr. Bryant attended Southern University in Baton rouge, Louisiana where he was a 1975 magna cum laude graduate, with a BS degree in Agronomy (plant and Soil Science). he also holds a master of public Administration from Auburn University in Alabama.

mr. Bryant is a 35 year veteran of the USdA forest Service, where he currently serves as a director of homeland Security, in washington, dc. he has held numerous leadership posi-tions in the forest Service, and has worked in

Louisiana, north carolina, Alabama, georgia, california, ohio and washington dc.

he is a member of several professional and civic organizations and an active member of the mount Ennon Baptist church in fort washington, md., where he serves on the Stewardship committee and sings in 2 choirs. mr. Bryant is also a Life member of kappa Alpha psi fraternity, inc.

mr. Bryant is married and is the proud father of two daughters; rachel , who is a 2003 phi Beta kappa inductee and magna cum laude graduate of Spelman college in Atlanta, georgia, with a degree in psychology and is now a ph. d student in clinical psychology ; and Bathsheba, who is a 2008 honor graduate of Spelman with a degree in Economics, and is now pursuing a ph.d. in international Affairs, with a focus on Africa economies. mr. m. Andy chaves, corporate Senior manager, has been with marriott international, inc. for more than 20 years. A graduate of virginia polytechnic institute and State University, he has more than 30 years experience in the hospitality industry. Andy has worked in lodging operations at more then 10 hotel and conference resort properties and has spent the last 13 years in human resources both in the north American lodging division and at marriott corporate headquarters.

Andy directs marriott’s workforce Effectiveness and diversity initiatives includ-ing language development programs – global Language Learning, diversity recruitment pro-grams and retention initiatives. he currently serves on the task force for new Americans, U.S. department of homeland Security. his work on language programs has lead to many conference and forum appearances related to immigration issues and found an audience at the white house where his council was sought by the president regarding English proficiency development programs as an investment in the workforce.

As the head of Youth Strategy at marriott, Andy directs a cadre of advisory board mem-bers, mentoring program participants, and curriculum development teams. he is a marriott-certified college recruiter and serves as a relationship recruiter supporting marriott’s inclusion initiative. he serves as Business Liaison to the national Academy foundation (nAf); Executive committee of the national Advisory Board for dEcA, An Association of marketing Students and served as Board chairman of hospitality high School of washington, dc, A public charter School. Andy serves as liaison to the nULitES pro-gram through the national Urban League as well as the LidErES and Escalera programs through the national council of La raza. he is program ambassador to the hispanic college fund’s hispanic Youth Symposiums as well as the marriott Scholars program. Andy contributes to curriculum development at nAf, is president of the montgomery county career Advisory Board for hospitality and serves on the Advisory Board for career and techni-cal program resources development with the glencoe mcgraw-hill publisher.

As a human resource professional, Andy understands that programs which invest in the workforce are essential for the overall success of the company as well as the development of enriching lives. Lynne B. chernin is the program manager for Learning Strategy and integration in ciA University. As part of the University’s Learning Strategy, Lynne led the effort to weave diver-sity and inclusion content into 23 courses

touching over 3000 students in the Agency and intelligence community. A master instructor, Lynne has taught all aspects of communication including conflict management, writing, and briefing [she published “Listenable Briefings” (pearson custom 2008)]. Throughout her career, Lynne has focused on helping people learn so they can do their jobs better. She is a certified mediator in virginia and has helped many people find a productive way forward when faced with serious conflict. A highlight for Lynne is having the opportunity to share her insights about productive com-munication with others, especially young people who are planning their careers. Stan deans began his UpS career in 1983 as a package handler in wisconsin. he was promoted to full-time management in 1987 and went on to hold positions of increasing responsibility with UpS in illinois, indiana, pennsylvania and new Jersey. in 2005, Stan

became the region district coordinator for UpS in Europe and was responsible for opera-tions in Europe, Africa and the middle East. he accepted his current assignment in 2008 as president of the illinois district where he is responsible for 12,000 employees and $1.9 bil-lion in revenues.

Stan holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of wisconsin-milwaukee. he completed the Amp at inSEAd in fountaine Bleu, france and the wharton Executive development program. he serves on the board of directors for chicago workforce investment Board and the Executive club of chicago.

Stan and his wife, cynthia, live in chicago with their three daughters, Bria, myka and Jai.

while attending the University of Arkansas at Little rock, trayce began her career with UpS in october of 1986 as a part-time delivery information clerk. over the next few years she held the following positions: package car driver, hub supervisor, package operations supervi-sor, engineering supervisor and labor relations supervisor.

in 1999, trayce accepted a promotion to busi-ness manager and then became a hub manager in 2001. The following year, trayce was pro-moted to transportation division manager for the state of oklahoma, where she managed the air, hub and feeder operations.

in 2004, trayce traveled to texas to become the mesquite hub division manager. She also participated in the community internship program (cip) in new York city.

in 2007, trayce worked in kansas city, kS and Atlanta, gA as a UpS corporate School instructor, teaching management and supervisor leadership skills.

trayce came to the metro detroit district in 2007 to become the northwest package division manager and was promoted, in 2010, to her current position as the great Lakes north operation manager. She is responsible for executing the great Lakes district strategic operational plans by supporting the day to day running of district operations and driving safety, service, and cost results.

trayce has served for 3 years on the United way of plymouth Board of directors. She also serves as chairperson for the UpS women’s Leadership development committee.

trayce holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business management and is happily married and supported by her husband wendell and son reginald. trayce is active in her church and enjoys golf, billiards and traveling.

A native of the washington d.c. metropolitan Area, robert is currently serving as an Account Executive for the heart of florida United way. he is a 2006 graduate of north carolina A&t State University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. he has been residing in orlando since January 2008.

At United way robert is responsible for fundraising campaigns of notable organizations such as Seaworld, darden restaurants, fedEx, and Sprint. in his spare time, robert has been a youth basketball coach and referee; and prides himself on lending a helping hand to his com-munity. he knows his experiences will lead him to be a cEo of his own non-profit organiza-tion in the future. robert believes that, “in life everything happens in god’s time.”

U.S. Army Accessions command also exercises department of the Army-directed executive agent authority over the U.S. military Entrance processing command, north chicago, iL. general freakley is responsible for meeting accessions goals for officer and enlisted person-nel, managing and conducting recruiting opera-tions, developing accessions policy, developing direct commission and appointment policy, and overseeing accessions programs. on 27 may 2010, general freakley took command at fort knox, as U.S. Army Accessions command assumed the role of senior mission command of fort knox and established the human resources center of Excellence.

general freakley is from woodstock, virginia. he graduated from the U.S. military Academy in 1975 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant, infantry, regular Army. he has a master of military Arts and Science degree in operations. his military schooling includes the infantry officer Basic and Advanced courses,

British Long Armor/infantry course, U.S. Army command and general Staff college, School of Advanced military Studies, and the Army war college.

Jackson is from Atmore Alabama. gerry is a graduate of Alabama A&m University where he received a B.S. in marketing, virginia tech where he received a master in forestry, and Edgewood college where he received a master of Business Administration. gerry has worked for the USdA forest Service for over 17 years. gerry began his forest Service career as a summer co-op at the forest products Laboratory in madison, wi, in 1992, as a public Affairs trainee. in 1994, after finishing officer Basic course at fort Lee virginia, gerry began his first duty assignment in the Economic Unit as Economist. he conducted marketing/eco-nomic analyses of data by performing prescribed mathematical and economic routines. gerry has published numerous documents for forest Service. his publications include “Exploration of the post market in highway Application” and an article in the forest products Journal “The Use and production of timbers in the United States.”

mrs. Sheila Jackson, m.S. is an implementation coordinator and member of the School development program (Sdp) national faculty. Sheila began working with comer Sdp in 1991 when prince george’s county public Schools (pgcpS) hired her as a parent facilitator. As a parent facilitator of comer Sdp, Sheila helped to implement what has been the school system’s model for comprehensive school reform and targeted parent/community engagement since 1985. Sheila holds a B.A. from the University of virginia (microbiology) where she was a national merit Scholar, and m.S. from western maryland (since renamed mcdaniel) college (curriculum, instruction, Supervision and Administration).

Since 1997, Sheila has served as director of sev-eral departments within pgcpS, including the department of comer Sdp, milliken ii and

Special programs; department of family and community Services; department of family and outreach and Strategic partnerships; and department of School development and Special programs; and, currently, department of School improvement. The common denomi-nator in all of these departments is that they always included supervision of comer Sdp within the school system. Sheila has also been the director of the Yale University child Study center’s comer Sdp regional professional development and training center in prince george’s county since its inception in 1994. Sheila has co-authored several articles on the comer process and co-authored with Jan Stocklinski and Beckie roberts a chapter on the comer facilitator in dr. comer’s book, child by child. most recently, she co-authored a number of chapters in The field guide to comer Schools in Action.Sheila is a highly sought after national consul-tant on school reform, team development, com-munity development and parental engagement. robert Johnson is managing counsel for mcdonald’s corporation where he is respon-sible for the oversight and management of all workers’ compensation claims initiated against the company. mcdonald’s corporation is the leading quick service restaurant in the world. mcdonald’s, a fortune 500 corporation serves over 56 million customers daily in over 120 countries worldwide. mr. Johnson is directly responsible for the management, supervision coordination and defense of every aspect of worker’s compensation claims.

prior to assuming his current role, robert held the position of Senior counsel with the mcdonald’s customer Action team. in this capacity, mr. Johnson was directly responsible for managing the litigation brought against mcdonald’s corporation as a result of any customer complaints and injuries. he was also responsible for managing sensitive litigation across the United States and consulted the mcdonald’s international markets frequently on issues related to crisis management and customer litigation.

Before joining mcdonald’s corporation, mr. Johnson worked as a civil trial attorney for several prominent defense firms where he represented a number of fortune 500 clients

As president of the national Urban League since 2003. marc h. morial has been the primary catalyst for an era of change -- a transformation for the nearly 100 year old civil rights organization. his energetic and skilled leadership has expanded the League’s work around an Empowerment agenda, which is redefining civil rights in the 21st century with a renewed emphasis on closing the economic gaps between whites and Blacks as well as rich and poor Americans.

Under his stewardship the League has had record fundraising success towards a 250mm, five year fundraising goal and he has secured the BBB nonprofit certification, which has estab-lished the nUL as a leading national nonprofit.

A graduate of the prestigious University of pennsylvania with a degree in Economics and African American Studies, he also holds a law degree from the georgetown University Law center in washington, d.c., as well as honor-ary degrees from Xavier University, wilberforce

University, and the University of South carolina Upstate.

morial was elected mayor of new orleans in 1994, serving two terms as popular chief execu-tive with a broad multi-racial coalition who led new orleans’ 1990’s renaissance, and left office with a 70% approval rating.

during his tenure, new orleans won the All-American city Award in 1996 for the first time in 50 years, as well as the presti-gious city Livability Award, and finished first in the national night out Against crime competition on two occasions.

Elected by his peers as president of the bi-parti-san U.S. conference of mayors (UScm), he served during the 9/11 crisis and championed the creation of the department of homeland Security, and the federalization of airport security screeners.

he serves as an Executive committee member of the Leadership conference on civil rights, the Black Leadership forum, and Leadership 18, and is a Board member of the muhammad Ali center, and the new Jersey performing Arts center.

morial, a history, arts, music and sports enthu-siast, has an adult daughter, and is married to broadcast journalist michelle miller. together they have two young children.

Responsibilities: Linda g. paige is fannie mae’s vice president – technology production. She reports to the vice president and head of technology infrastructure and operations. paige directs a team that is responsible for overseeing the corporate service management functions for change, problem, risk, test, and configuration management including strategy, technology, and operations.

Experience: previously, paige was vice president – restatement Quality Assurance/

testing, and prior to that, vice president – information technology for the multifamily business.

paige has considerable professional experience in large-scale application systems develop-ment. prior to joining fannie mae in 1990, she consulted at numerous fortune 100 financial services institutions where she implemented various financial systems.

Affiliations: paige is a member of the national Association of female Executives, women in technology, Business women of washington, and is actively involved in church-related and community outreach activities.

karen price-ward is Southwest Airlines community Affairs & grassroots manager in the northeast. She is responsible for establish-ing and strengthening relationships with key businesses, civic/community, political lead-ers and influencers in the African American, hispanic, Asian American, women, senior, military, and LgBt markets across the country. Additionally, she aligns Southwest with key national and community based organizations by seeking board of director and/or commit-tee positions, sponsoring key member events and attending networking functions. moreover, she creates public relation events that foster goodwill in the community and assist the communications & Strategic outreach department with managing the Southwest Airlines citizenship.

mrs. price-ward began her career as an assistant buyer for 150 stores with a discount retailer. in 1995, she landed her dream job with Southwest Airlines as a marketing manager in her home town of St. Louis, mo. in 1996, she transferred to Baltimore, md as a marketing manager to serve the cities in the east. Later, she was promoted and became the first female

African-American district marketing manager for Southwest Airlines and at the company’s busiest East coast destination. As the mid-Atlantic district marketing manager she was responsible for coordinating Southwest’s mar-keting not only for the Baltimore and metro-politan areas of washington d.c. and northern virginia, but also locations in connecticut, new York, ohio, and Southern virginia. Along with her public speaking and market analysis duties, her responsibilities included crisis management and legislative awareness.

currently, she serves as a board member for the national African- American women’s Leadership institute, national campaign to Stop violence, national Urban League Black Executive Exchange program Executive Advisory council, greater washington Urban League, northern virginia Urban League, and prince george’s chamber of commerce. She also represents the airline as a supporter of the national Urban League Young professionals, philadelphia Urban League, national Black chamber of commerce, tuskegee Airmen, inc, network for teaching Entrepreneurs, United States Business Leadership network, women’s Business Enterprise national council, nAAcp, among other civic, educational, political, and business organizations. She is a mother of a son, daughter, and two toy poodles; wife; and mBA graduate from Johns hopkins University carey Business School.

mrs. price-ward enjoys working for Southwest Airlines and supporting community based ini-tiatives so much that she states, “it does not feel like a job, but rather an opportunity to connect and give back to the community.”

florence pridgen is the 1890 national Scholars program manager for the USdA forest Service and has served in this capacity for the past two years. previously she held the position of EEo Specialist, civil rights, Eastern region, region 9 in the forest Service. florence brings to the position a wealth of experience and knowledge in not only the federal government, but from private indus-try, city and state government where she held various analyst positions. for the past 20 years she has served on national taskforces for the forest Service—work Environment task force, human resources reengineering and implementation, civil rights Action team, and Business process reengineering team.

florence is a proud graduate of north carolina Agricultural and technical State University. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. her responsibilities include coordination and monitoring of the 1890 national Scholars program for the forest Service, in addition to working on strengthen-ing the partnership between USdA, forest Service and the 1890 Land-grant Universities, as one of the leading multicultural workforce Strategic initiatives (mwSi) in the forest Service, resulting in helping to increase the number of students studying agriculture and related disciplines. She also strives to work with community activist groups to forge relation-ships and increase awareness of 1890 national Scholars program employment opportunities, along with other employment opportunities with the forest Service. Although florence has worked for the forest Service for 20 years, she has been a forest Service family member for over 30 years, as her husband daryl pridgen is the Urban connections program manager for the Eastern region. florence and daryl have 2 children, danielle and daryl Jr.

in a short span, courtney L. robinson has had the opportunity to learn and develop at several top consumer products companies in a breadth of positions across sales, category management and marketing. in 2007, courtney joined Unilever as a category management Strategy manager–with roles managing both

foods and personal care categories. in April 2010, courtney moved into marketing where she now manages the Suave Body wash brand, a $125mm business. She is the co-chair of the African American Business network at Unilever where she works to foster diversity initiatives that drive business objectives. courtney enjoys her role as visiting profes-sor with the national Urban League’s BEEp program, and is also active with the Jackie robinson foundation and the United negro college fund. prior to joining Unilever, she earned her mBA from Emory University’s goizueta Business School. courtney is originally from Baltimore, maryland and is a member of Sigma gamma rho Sorority, incorporated.

commissioner tiffany moore russell is a native of orlando, florida. A product of orange county’s public school system, commissioner moore russell is an alumna of dr. phillips high School. Upon graduating from high school she went on to receive her BA in political Science from the University of South florida and a Juris doctorate from florida State University college of Law.

She was elected to the orange county commission to represent district 6 in november of 2006. She made history through becoming the youngest county commissioner that has ever been elected to serve on the orange county commission in charge of a budget exceeding $5 billion and more than 8000 employees. commissioner moore russell is committed to remaining accountable and accessible to each and every constituent, increasing recreational and career opportunities for the area youth, creating stable and viable neighborhoods, and strengthening orange county’s economy by increasing the availability of jobs and minority business opportunities.

commissioner moore russell has been a community advocate for many years, both as an elected official and a private citizen. As a lay person she served on the orange county community Action Board, where she was elected chairman and vice chairman while also accepting volunteer appointments to both the orange county Board of Zoning and Adjustments and the orange county citizens review Board. As a commissioner, she’s gained additional experience through provid-ing service on boards such as orange county’s commission on Aging; value and Adjustment Board; Youth and family Services Board; oBt development Board; the downtown orlando crA/ddB Board; African American chamber of commerce; 2008 Electoral canvassing Board; international drive master transit and improvement district; mEtropLAn; and the florida Association of counties.

vice president, corporate taxAnthony walker is vp, corporate tax for darden restaurants. in this role, he is responsible for leading all tax-related planning, audit, accounting, and compliance activities across the company.

darden is the world’s largest full-service restaurant operating company with annual sales of more than $7 billion. The company owns and operates 1,800 red Lobster, olive garden, Longhorn Steakhouse, The capital grille, Bahama Breeze and Seasons 52 restaurants in

north America, employs approximately 180,000 people and serves more than 400 million meals annually.

prior to joining darden, Anthony was tax director for Yum! Brands, inc. based in Louisville, kY. in his position, Anthony had responsibility for all federal and state tax issues including income, franchise, sales/use and property taxes for both the pizza hut and taco Bell business units. he was also responsible for managing the effective tax rate and directing the income tax compliance process. Before that, Anthony was a tax Specialist for cox Enterprises in Atlanta and a tax Senior with Arthur Andersen, LLp also in Atlanta.Anthony received his bachelor’s degree in Accounting and his master of Accountancy in taxation from the University of georgia and also received an mBA from the kellogg School of management at northwestern University. he is a certified public Accountant and also a member of the tax Executives institute (tEi) and past president of The florida chapter of tEi.

Based in the company’s Santa monica, cA head-quarters, charles c. whitfield is responsible for a variety of key areas for hidden Beach recordings (hBr), including retail sales, artists relations, and corporate outreach, among others. Additionally, he helped devise and implement the hidden Beach national college internship program and now overseas the program along with ila pravaz.

whitfield also has handled A&r (artist and rep-ertoire) coordination for hidden Beach’s double platinum-selling debut cd from Jill Scott and her follow up (“who is Jill Scott? words & Sounds, vol. 1”), (Beautifully human, “words and Sounds, vol. 2), and Brenda russell’s first studio project in seven years (“paris rain”). he also oversaw the music production for saxophon-ist mike phillips 2001 debut release” You have reached mike phillips” as well as his new project “Uncommon denominator.” A native of greensboro, nc, whitfield was introduced to the music of Al Jarreau, david Sanborn, and michael franks at the age of twelve. This early exposure to contemporary jazz led him to a unique appreciation of music unmatched by teens his age. while his peers were attracted to the music of run-dmc and kool mo dee, whitfield was intrigued by the sounds of george Benson and Earl klugh. Although he could relate to the music of his

generation, whitfield’s love for jazz could be attributed to his versatile tastes, the universal appeal of the music, and the influence of his older brother, fred, whom whitfield frequently heard playing records on the family stereo.

while in college in durham, nc, whitfield worked part-time as a product manager at a record store. his responsibilities included coordinating record shipments from major and independent labels. it was during this time that whitfield developed a keen awareness of the var-ious genres of music and the numerous labels and their artists. he also fine-tuned his ear for talent, becoming well known for his ability to suggest quality recordings. At the same time, whitfield continued to nurture his appetite for progressive jazz as well as hip-hop and r&B, favoring the likes of rap group A tribe called Quest and the well-known recording trio Loose Ends.

in late 1995, whitfield’s passion for music and curiosity about the record industry guided him to the dream of starting a label, the focus of which would be on contemporary jazz and the showcas-ing of previously undiscovered talent. his energy and self-motivation landed him in meetings and studio sessions with such industry standouts as craig t. cooper, ramsey Lewis, gary taylor, gerald Albright, Bob Baldwin, chip Shearin and hidden Beach cEo Steve mckeever.

prior to joining hidden Beach recordings, whitfield served as an assistant manager at norwest financial, a fortune 500 consumer finance company. in 1996 he was the leader in business development sales in his district, outdis-tancing his closest competitor by over $400,000.

whitfield, who lettered in basketball while obtaining a B.A. degree in criminal Justice at north carolina central University 1991, resides in charlotte.

Elliott A. wiley, Jr., a graduate of gilman School in Baltimore, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from tufts University in 2004. while in undergraduate school, he wrote for and eventually became Sports Editor of the tufts daily newspaper and also developed, pro-duced and hosted his own television program. immediately after tufts, he worked in television production for three years at ESpn, where he received an Emmy Award for production of Sportscenter. in 2007, Elliott started business school at nYU’s Stern School of Business and focused on marketing. After his first year, he secured an internship with consumer packaged goods company Unilever on the Q-tips brand. Elliott was offered a full time position upon completion of the program. aBOut tHe sCHOlarsHiP The Jerry Bartow Scholarship fund was established in June 1997 by itt hartford insurance company in recog-nition of dr. Bartow’s service to itt, his long-standing commitment to the development of the Black Executive Exchange program and the national Urban League. Undergraduate students attending historically Black colleges and Universities who have a minimum 3.0 gpA out of 4.0 are eligible to apply for the scholarship. The scholarship fund is maintained through personal and corporate contributions as well as the Jerome E. Bartow Scholarship fund golf tournament, organized annually by UpS.
