Interview Guidelines Georgia Techs practices are closed to the public and the media, but the Yellow Jackets play-ers and coaches are available to the media prior to practices twice a week at the Zelnak Center. The daily practice schedule varies, and media ses-sions will be scheduled and announced weekly. TV stations occasionally will be allowed to shoot B-roll at the beginning of practices on these days. Interview requests with players that need to be conducted at other times must be made through the media relations offi ce at least 24 hours in advance. These interviews will be sched-uled around the players availability and class schedule. Media are asked not to contact players di-rectly either by phone or e-mail. Every effort will be made to make players available when requested. Players are off-limits on game days until after the game.

Interviews with Coach Gregory Media wishing to speak with Coach Gregory at times other than regular media sessions are asked to set up an appointment in advance through the media relations offi ce. He also is available each week on the ACC Teleconference, and other teleconferences may be scheduled as demand warrants.

Releases/Photos via E-mail All Georgia Tech basketball releases, game notes and media advisories are distributed via e-mail to a list maintained by the media relations of-fi ce. Media wishing to be added to this list should send a request to Mike Stamus. Photographs are available on request.

Ramblinwreck.com/Social Media Georgia Techs official website, Ramblin-wreck.com, is continuously updated with all of Techs releases, statistics, game notes, biogra-phies and other information. Game notes and bio updates are generally posted at least 24 hours prior to each game, while updated statistics and box scores are posted following each game. Updates on the activities of the Tech bas-ketball team can also be followed on Georgia Techs offi cial Facebook and Twitter pages (see addresses at right). Feature stories and other news on Tech basketball can also be found in Techs daily e-mail newsletter, Sting Daily.

Media Credentials for Home Games Media credentials are issued to accredited members of the working media only. Working space is limited, and children, spouses and other non-workers will not be granted credentials or access to media areas. Requests for credentials should be made in writing, via e-mail or fax, at least 24 hours in advance of each game to Mike Stamus. These requests are accepted from sports editors and sports directors only. Credentials will not be mailed. They can be picked up the night of the

game at the media entrance. Photo credentials are granted to still pho-tographers and videographers on assignment for a media agency only (no freelancers). Admission to courtside is by PHOTO pass only, and pho-tographer positions are at the discretion of the basketball game offi cials and the media relations staff.

GEORGIA TECH NOTEBOOKTech Begins Anew Under Brian Gregory Georgia Tech hired Brian Gregory, who enjoyed a successful eight-year run as the head coach at Dayton, as its head coach last March. The new Yellow Jackets skipper compiled a record of 172-94 at the Atlantic 10 institution, guiding the Flyers to two NCAA Tournaments and three berths in the NIT, which they won in 2010. Gregorys accomplishments at Dayton and their historical signifi cance for the Flyers program can be found on page 25 of this information guide.

Whos Back Techs new head coach inherits two returning starters and nine let-terwinners from a team that went 13-18 overall, 5-11 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, a year ago. Two of the three leading scorers from last season are gone - Iman Shumpert going in the NBA Draft, where he was the 17th overall selection, and Brian Oliver, who transferred to Seton Hall. Back are junior guards Glen Rice, Jr., and Mfon Udofi a, sophomore forwards Jason Morris and Kammeon Holsey, and sophomore centers Daniel Miller and Nate Hicks, who combined to make 82 starts and score 51 percent of Techs points in 2011-12. Gregory welcomes three newcomers, including 6-7 freshman forward Julian Royal of Milton High School in Alpharetta, Ga., 6-3 sophomore guard Brandon Reed, an Atlanta prep product who played at Arkansas State in 2009-10 before transferring to Tech, and 6-0 senior point guard Pierre Jordan, who graduated over the summer from Florida State and is completing his eligibility at Tech. The only two seniors on the Tech squad this year are a pair of former walk-ons - guards Derek Craig and Nick Foreman - who are on scholarship for their fi nal year at Tech.

Tale of Two Homes For the 2011-12 season, Georgia Tech will play all eight of its ACC games and non-conference games against Northwestern and Alabama in Philips Arena, which is located downtown and is the home arena of the NBAs Atlanta Hawks. Tech has an all-time record of 4-3 in the building, but has not played there since Dec. 11, 2004, a 64-42 win over Air Force in the last Chick-fi l-A Classic for Kids. Tech also played its fi rst ACC-Big Ten Challenge game in Philips Arena, a game won by Michigan, 80-77, on Dec. 1, 1999. The 2012 ACC Tournament will be held at Philips Arena Mar. 8-11. The Yellow Jackets other fi ve non-conference games, all in November and December, as well as 12 of the 13 Tech womens home games, will be played at the Arena at Gwinnett, located up I-85 North in Duluth, Ga. Techs mens team has never played a game in the building.

Final Game in the Thrillerdome Georgia Tech played its 55th and fi nal season for Georgia Tech basketball in Alexander Memorial Coliseum. Over the next year, the venerable building will be replaced by a new facility called the McCamish Pavilion, which is being built on the same site and will be ready for the 2012-13 season. The only parts of the building that will remain are the roof and its 32 steel support ribs. Georgia Tech compiled a record of 556-194 (.741) in the building, which opened Nov. 30, 1956 with a 71-61 Tech loss to Duke, and closed March 6, 2011 with a 66-57 Tech win over Miami. Known as the Thrillerdome, the Coliseum closed as the second-oldest arena in use in the ACC, behind Cameron Indoor Stadium at Duke. Tech in Field for 2011 Charleston Classic Georgia Tech is among the eight teams that will compete in the the 2011 Charleston Classic set to be held Nov. 17-20, at Carolina First Arena in

Charleston, S.C. The fi eld for the fourth annual Charleston Classic includes Georgia Tech, LSU, Saint Josephs, Seton Hall, Tulsa, Virginia Commonwealth, Western Kentucky and Baylor. The Yellow Jackets will play in this event for the fi rst time, continuing a trend of participating in major early-season events over the past several years. Beginning in 2006, Tech has played in the Maui Invitational in Hawaii, the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, and last years Legends Classic.

Eight Jackets on NBA Rosters Georgia Techs roster of NBA players stood at seven during the 2010-11 season. Tech had more alumni in the NBA than any Atlantic Coast Conference team except Duke and North Carolina. Iman Shumpert, drafted 17th overall by the New York Knicks last June, will be the eighth Yellow Jacket in the NBA for 2011-12. The list includes rookie forward Derrick Favors. Favors was the third overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft by the New Jersey Nets. Gani Lawal, who was a second-round choice in 2011 by the Phoenix Suns and signed a three-year contract with the team, who guaranteed the fi rst year, spent time in the NBDL with Iowa, then played briefl y for the Suns before suffering a season-ending knee injury. GEORGIA TECH NOTEBOOKagent contract in 2011 with the Miami Heat, while Anthony Morrow, a free agent signee by the Golden State Warriors in 2008, was signed in 2011 by the New Jersey Nets. Forward Thaddeus Young, the 12th overall pick in 2007, is in his fi fth season with the Philadelphia 76ers. Guard Jarrett Jack, a six-year NBA veteran, was traded from Toronto to Charlotte last Nov. 22. Will Bynum, a member of Techs 2004 Final Four squad, is in his fourth season with the Detroit Pistons. Mario West, who two seasons with the Atlanta Hawks, played last year for New Jersey.

Schedule Notes Techs schedule includes six games, and as many as eight, against teams which played in last years NCAA Tournament, and six more against teams that participated in the NIT. Seven of the Tech games will be televised on ESPNU nationally, six will appear on the ACCs regional cable network (FS South and others), and fi ve will appear on the ACC Networks regional syndication package. Techs ACC games that appear on the ACC Network or the ACCs regional cable network (RSN) also will be available on ESPN3.com, as will Techs Nov. 23 game against Siena. Techs Jan. 3 game against Alabama is the completion of a two-game contract. The Crismon Tide defeated the Jackets, 88-77, in January of 2009 in Tuscaloosa, and are playing Tech in Atlanta for the fi rst time since 1975. Tech and Mercer will square off for the 45th time in a series that dates back to 1909. The Jackets will be meeting Delaware State for just the second time (fi rst time in 1997), and have a 1-2 series record against Siena, who defeated the Jackets last year in Albany, N.Y. Florida A&M and Alabama A&M have both visited Atlanta in recent years. The Jackets and Saint Josephs, fi rst-round opponents in the Charles-ton Classic, will meet for the fi rst time since a fi rst-round matchup in the 2001 NCAA West Regional in San Diego. The annual game between the Yellow Jackets and Georgia will take place Wednesday, Dec. 7, in Athens, the 188th meeting between the state rivals. The Jackets are looking for their fi rst win at Stegeman Coliseum since the series moved back to the campuses in 1995. Tech also will make December non-conference road trips to Tulane (Dec. 3), Savannah State (Dec. 10) and Fordham (Dec. 29). Techs meeting with Tulane will be the 68th between the former SEC rivals, and the Jackets fi rst visit to New Orleans since January of 2003. Tech is making its fi rst-ever visit to Rose Hill Gym to play Fordham, and will be the fi rst ACC team to play there since 1965. The teams had a scheduled game last season in Atlanta on Dec. 27, which was cancelled when a major snowstorm in the Northeast prevented the Rams from traveling to Atlanta. The Jackets defeated Savannah State last year in the fi rst-ever meet-ing between the two schools, and Tech will play its fi rst basketball game in the city of Savannah since 1928.

Techs ACC Tournament History Georgia Tech has played in 32 ACC Tourna-ments, and has a 24-29 all-time record in the event. The Yellow Jackets have won three cham-pionships, in 1985 (Atlanta), 1990 (Charlotte) and 1993 (Charlotte). Tech has been a runner-up four times (1986, 1996, 2005, 2010). The 1986, 1996 and 2010 runs to the fi nals occurred in Greens-boro. Tech is 8-14 all-time in ACC Tournament games played in the Greensboro Coliseum. Since 1996, when the Yellow Jackets reached the fi nals against Wake Forest, the Yellow Jackets are 4-6 in tournament games in Greensboro. Tech had an 9-11 record in the tournament

with Paul Hewitt as its head coach, including runner-up fi nishes in 2005 in Washington, D.C., and 2010 in Greensboro.

Techs NCAA Tournament History Georgia Tech played in the NCAA Tournament fi ve times in 11 seasons under head coach Paul Hewitt and has played in the event 16 times in the history of the program. Fourteen of those appearances have occurred since 1985. The 2004 and 2005 appearances were the Yellow Jackets fi rst back-to-back appearances since Bobby Cremins led the Institute to the Big Dance nine straight years from 1985-93. Tech has a record of 23-16 in NCAA Tournament play, highlighted by its 2004 trip to the NCAA title game as well as a Final Four berth in 1990. The Yellow Jackets have reached the NCAA Sweet 16 seven times (1960, 1985, 1986, 1990, 1992, 1996, 2004). Georgia Tech has won at least one game in 11 of its 16 NCAA Tourna-ment appearances.

NCAA Infractions Report In July of 2011, the National College Athletic Association (NCAA) Divi-sion I Committee on Infractions found the Georgia Institute of Technology mens basketball and football programs have committed violations of NCAA regulations. The Institute was cited for a lack of cooperation during the investiga-tion, a failure to meet the conditions and obligations of membership and preferential treatment violations. There were additional violations in the mens basketball program related to rules stemming from a nonscholastic basketball tournament conducted on the Institutes campus, which the public report further details. Georgia Tech is committed to the integrity of its athletics program, including full cooperation and support of the NCAA, said Georgia Tech President G.P. Bud Peterson. Given the information we had at the time, I believe we took reasonable and appropriate steps to determine the proper course of action and acted in good faith. Looking back, there are things we could have done differently. Because of our unwavering commitment to NCAA compliance, we have already taken a number of steps to address perceived

shortcomings, hopefully ensuring that our pro-grams remain beyond reproach. After being notifi ed of the allegations in November 2009, Georgia Tech conducted its own internal investigation, forming a committee made up of faculty, staff and external counsel that made recommendations based on available information and the internal investigation fi nd-ings. As a result of this exhaustive review process and because of Georgia Techs steadfast com-mitment to compliance, the Institute completely revamped and enhanced its athletic compliance operation and staffi ng. Changes include a great-er investment in experienced staff, training and awareness among staff and student athletes. Penalties include: Public reprimand and censure. Four years of probation from July 14, 2011, through July 13, 2015. The report further details this probation. A $100,000 fi nancial penalty. A reduction of two mens basketball recruiting days during the 2011 summer evaluation period (self-imposed by the Institute). A limit to 10 offi cial visits for mens basketball for the 2011-12 and 2012-2013 academic years. A vacation of all contests won by the football team during the 2009 season after November 24, which is when the university was alerted to the potential eligibility issues.
