    2010: Year of scams!

    New Delhi 2010 emerged as the year of scams. Irregularities in the

    conduct of the Commonwealth Games, the 2G spectrum allocationscam and the Niira Radia tapes hogged the media limelight.

    On the positive side, leaders of the P5 countries - US, UK, France,China and Russia - visited India, all during the year signalling theemergence of India as an influential global power.

    Following is the diary of events during the year.

    The Union Cabinet approved a proposal to set up seven Indian Institutes of Management

    in

    Tamil Nadu,

    Haryana,

    Rajasthan,

    Jammu and Kashmir,

    Jharkhand,

    Chhattisgarh and

    Uttarakhand.

    Four of the IIMs in Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh would be set

    up this year and become operational from the next academic year.

    The others would be set up next year and become operational in 2011.

    In Tamil Nadu, the IIM would come up in Tiruchi,

    in Haryana at Rohtak,

    in Jharkhand at Ranchi and

    in Chhattisgarh at Raipur.
