Worked hard to open up the lines of communication between Parents, Coaches and Executive

Did our best to address questions, comments, complaints and other situations in an appropriate and timely fashion

Created and implemented a new Rep Coach selection process

Hired Steve Sumka as OGHA Goalie Coach and provided 5 goalie clinics

Worked with the Town of Orangeville to implement the first ever girls only after school shinny program

Held 1st Annual Free Holiday Family Fun Skate (with special guest)

Major Storage Space “Office” clean up and donated hundreds of pairs of spare hockey socks and jersey’s to the Canadian Tire Jump Start Program

7 Trophies awarded at the 33rd Annual Sweetheart Tournament including the Liane Kelly and Monique Babineau Memorial awards that haven’t been handed out since 1990’s

Introduced the use of an Independent Evaluator at Tryouts

Worked with the Town to have an OGHA banner hung in Alder Red {special thank you to Owl-lite}

Entered into a partnership with Caledon Girls Hockey Association to establish a shared schedule for HL

Secured space in Alder Red for our future Trophy case

General Manager’s Report Con’t… Applied for RBC Play Hockey Grant

1) Learning by Doing & Having Fun: Implement a newly developed FUNdamentals (4-6 years) program where we will use an unorthodox concept to build upon our current more traditional program by introducing on-ice props. We will replace more traditional drills with this new approach which will emphasize skill learning while having fun in a unique manner.

2) No Player Left Behind: Continue to offer a reduced registration fee for our FUNdaments program and offer a new reduction in fees for our Novice (7-8 years) program. The ultimate goal is to increase enrollment and retention of players. This progressive move will create opportunities that would otherwise not exist for girls to explore the game of hockey.

3) Coach Development and Support: We know that coaches hold the keys to success for our association. It is our responsibility to nurture and develop our coaches by providing specialized coaching clinics. Host two “Coaches Days” with on and off ice modules.

Playing Up Policy

In general, the OGHA discourages the practice of playing up. This policy will outline the criteria and requirements where players wish to play or try out for teams in higher divisions than their own age group.

1. Players wishing to attend tryouts at an older level must make this request in writing to the Director of Representative 10 business days prior to the first tryout date.

2. Players may only apply to play in one division above their own age division.

3. Players must attend the first tryout of the division unless they have prior approval from the Director of Representative.

6. Players wishing to try out for an older aged division must be considered exceptional and judged to be among the top five players of the older aged team. (one of the top three forwards, one of the top two defense players, or top goalie) This bench marking assessment would be completed by the Coach Selection Committee (or Independent Evaluators appointed by the committee) whose recommendations would be voted on by the Executive.

Import Policy1. For all rep age levels the following import

restrictions will be applied: AA level teams – Up to six (6) import players permitted

2. Import player definition: If the player was not registered in the OGHA association in the previous season (i.e.: coming from another girls hockey association) they are considered an import. If a permission to skate form is required at tryouts the player is considered an import. Goalies are exempt. Members of Caledon Girls association are exempt during the term of our partnership agreement.

3. Prospective players may apply in writing to the Director of Representative for approval of exceptional circumstances.
