Autumn in Stevens Point brings two things: the changing of seasons and a winning record from the UW-Stevens Point women’s soccer program. As Sheila Miech enters her 24th season in 2010, the only coach in UW-Stevens Point women’s soccer history boasts a 336-107-29 overall record.

Miech ranks fifth on the all-time NCAA Division III wins list amongst active coaches, and was the second female coach in any division of NCAA women’s soc-

cer to reach 300 career victories. Miech has guided the Pointers to 22 consecutive winning seasons, marking the fourth-longest current streak in Division III.

Miech’s best success has come in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play where she has lost just seven regular season matches in the 17-year history of the league. She boasts a staggering 123-7-7 career record in regular season conference matches, having won 13 conference championships. Miech guided the Pointers through the longest conference winning streak in NCAA history with 70 straight WIAC wins from 1997 to 2003.

Her WIAC tournament resume is just as impressive, sporting a 41-5 all-time record with 14 conference tournament titles in the 18-year history of the event. The Pointers have made 14 NCAA tournament appearances and were the only WIAC school ever to qualify for the postseason prior to 2005.

A 1978 UW-Stevens Point graduate, Miech earned the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year for the seventh time in the 18-year history of the league in 2008. In 2000, she was the Division III Central Region Coach of the Year for the third time in her career as the Pointers qualified for the Division III Final Four.

Miech is a native of Wausau and a graduate of Wausau West High School. A standout athlete at UW-Stevens Point during her undergraduate days, she earned Female Athlete of the Year honors as a senior. Continuing her association with UW-Stevens Point following graduation, she has been an instructor in the Department of Health, Exercise Sciences and Athletics (HESA), earning various awards for her teaching.

Miech and her husband, John, who is the winningest football coach in UW-Stevens Point history, have two sons, Jesse and Ryan, and reside in Park Ridge.

Head Coach Sheila MiechShiela Miech ranks fifth among active NCAA Division III women’s soccer coaches in career victories. Here is a look at the all-time leaders:

Having won 13 conference championships in the past 18 years and made NCAA Division III tournament appearances 11 of the last 13

seasons, the list of accomplishments by the UW-Stevens Point women’s soccer team is astonishing. Here’s a look at the team’s impressive history:

* The Pointers now have an 138-36-13 record over their last 187 matches, a winning percentage of .772.* The Pointers have won 13 of the 18 all-time WIAC championships and own an amazing conference regular season record of 123-7-7. They had the longest

conference winning streak in NCAA history from 1997-2003 at 70 matches (including tournaments) and have outscored their WIAC opponents 756-74 all-time.* UW-Stevens Point has won 14 of the 18 all-time Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournaments. The Pointers are 42-4 all-time in tourna-

ment play and have outscored opponents 169-21.* The Pointers have had nine of the 13 17-win seasons recorded all-time by WIAC teams.* UW-Stevens Point has a 336-107-29 all-time record in 23 years and the 2009 season was its 22nd consecutive winning season, which is the fourth longest

current streak in Division III. Only Rochester (N.Y.), Ithaca (N.Y.) and William Smith (N.Y.) have more consecutive winning seasons and all of them had their streaks begin before UW-Stevens Point added wom-en’s soccer in 1987.

* UW-Stevens Point has a 14-14-1 all-time NCAA tournament record in 14 tournament appear-ances over the past 16 years. Until 2005, UW-Stevens Point was the only WIAC school ever to play an NCAA postseason contest.

* UW-Stevens Point’s eight NCAA Division III tournament appearances from 1997-2004 was the second-longest streak in the country. Only College of New Jersey had more with 14 straight.
