Happy New Year of the Tiger!
On behalf of the Chinese Society of Nova Scotia, I would like to
welcome you for joining us in celebrating the Chinese New Year of
the Tiger!
Our Society is a non-profit organization formed in 1973. One of our
main objectives is to preserve and promote Chinese culture in
a multicultural environment in Nova Scotia. Many of our members
have been making great contributions to the local community by
helping new immigrants from China and bringing various opportu-
nities from China and other Asian counties to the local busi-
nesses, educational and research communities in the Province.
Our Society has also been actively involved in many community
activities, including our recent donation drive to the Haiti Earth-
quake Relief Fund.
This is our ninth year holding such celebration in this same banquet
hall. We are honoured again to co-host this festive event with the
Hong Kong Canada Business Association. Their participation has
made this event become a notable social event in the region. We are
also honoured to have many of you who have made this occasion as
your annual event. I wish to express sincere thanks to our advertis-
ers in our Banquet Brochure and our door prize sponsors. I also
want to thank my executive team and volunteers for spending much
of their precious time and efforts for preparing this event.
The ―Year of the Tiger‖ represents good fortune, prosperity,
and success in the New Year. On behalf of the Chinese Society, I
wish the New Year may bring you and your family peace, joy and
prosperity in all of your endeavours!

According to the Chinese zodiac, the tiger is a sign of bravery, optimism,
determination and compassion. As people all over the world are
extending their loving hearts and helping hands to the people in Haiti,
many countries are still pulling out of economic uncertainties, I believe
the spirit of the tiger is what we need to walk through a difficult time and
to embrace a happier and brighter future.
This year is one of some special significance. Firstly, Canada is hosting
the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, which is coming to a
successful end tomorrow. Athletes from Canada, China and many other
countries have made us marvel, not only at their athletic performances
but also their spirit of bravery and perseverance. Secondly, 2010 marks
the 40th anniversary of Sino-Canada diplomatic relations. As both
countries are working to strengthen the traditional ties, more
opportunities will emerge between Canada and China, and through Hong
Kong, the gateway to the enormous China market. Thirdly, 2010 is also
the Year of the Metal Tiger. The metal element symbolizes good luck in
finance, Insurance, mining, engineering, high tech etc. I certainly wish
everyone good fortune in the Year of the Tiger.
Hong Kong Canada Business Association is the largest bi-lateral trade
organization in Canada with approximately 1,500 members in major
cities from coast to coast, and connections to 31 similar trade groups in
24 countries around the world through the Federation of Hong Kong
Business Association Worldwide.
It is our pleasure to co-host, with the Chinese Society of Nova Scotia,
this great event of celebration of cultural diversity and community
harmony in Canada. On behalf of HKCBA, I would like to thank all the
sponsors, performers and volunteers who make this event a success.
I sincerely wish each one of you and your family health, happiness and
prosperity in the Year of the Tiger.
