ServeServe as a MentorBuild and sustain a voluntary, one-on-one relationship with a current student built upon:

• Respect• Mutual exchange• Interpersonal support

The Mentoring ProcessSome important aspects of a mentoring relationship are:

• Setting goals and expectations for the relationship.

• Listening to one another, asking relevant, thoughtful questions.

• Maintaining a learning posture in all interactions.

• Staying in contact based on the set of expectations.

The Matching ProcessOnce accepted into the program, students in their Junior and Senior years or Graduate students, select the mentor from our online database that best matches their career and personal needs. Once a request is made:

• The mentor receives and e-mail with the request, and can choose to accept or decline the student mentee.

• The student will receive an e-mail with the mentor’s decision.

• If accepted, we encourage the student to make fi rst contact.

• If declined, the student can search the database for another mentor and make a request.

How much time will be involved in the mentoring relationship?Time commitment is very fl exible and can range from monthly to weekly contact. It is up to the student and the mentor to decide together what works best for them.

How long should I expect to remain in this mentoring relationship? The mentoring relationship offi cially lasts for six months, after which the formal pairing will be released in our online system. This, however, does not mean that the mentoring relationship has to end. We encourage mentors and mentees to continue their relationship on an informal basis.

How do I sign up?• Go to:

www.alumni.georgian.edu/beyondthecourt• Fill out an anonymous online profi le that

students will see in their mentor search.• Watch for mentor requests in your e-mail
