Retire to InspireJune 2010

Please share information in the newsletters with your volunteers. Because of financial restrictions we are not able to do mass mailings to our volunteers.

Relay for Life is being held in one more location in Shelby County. Your group is encouraged to form a team to participate at this location.

North Shelby (Pelham, Helena) – June 11 & 12 – Pelham High SchoolContact Kylee Patrick, ACS Rep, [email protected] or 918-3212

The Shelby County Senior Picnic was a great success. We had 700 in attendance. Thanks to our co-sponsors – Shelby County Commission, Middle Alabama Area Agency on Aging (M4A), Positive Maturity, and Shelby County RSVP. Also thanks goes to the 30 vendors in attendance. Hopefully you found their materials helpful. Special thanks goes out to the Civil Air Patrol, Calera Fire Department, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Rick LeCroy’s military display, Company B, Ist Battalion 167th Infantry 4th Alabama Army National Guard, and the 440th Chemical Company Alabama Army National Guard for their displays.

Note volunteer opportunities are featured each week in the Shelby County Reporter. RSVP in Shelby County has over 100 volunteer opportunities available. For those who are 54 and under, Shelby County offers Shelby Volunteers in Service. Shelby County volunteer opportunities are also available online through www.handsonbirmingham.org or through the Shelby County website, www.shelbycountyalabama.com.

We have been restricted with a loss of some funds, but it should not affect our services. We are placing restrictions on the van. We are restricting the van to one pickup and one drop-off point per trip. We will not be able to make additional stops to board and unload passengers. We will schedule the most direct route to and from the point(s) scheduled on the trip. Our drivers, Don Partridge or Nancy Davis, cannot schedule trips. Trips may be scheduled on a first come/first serve bases only by Marvin Copes, 669-3837. Most of you know this but we have gained several new stations.

Please welcome two new faces to the Shelby County RSVP staff, Ellen Brechin and Clair Molina. Both are furnished through a program conducted by Middle Alabama Area Agency on Aging. Ellen will be working in the office and assisting with transportation, friendly visiting, and tele-a-care programs. Clair will be working with the areas of cancer, hospice, and respite. Clair will help with informational speakers and Relay for Life. She will be working with cancer and hospice agencies.

THANKS for volunteering
