  • MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR

Dear Parishioners and Extended Family Members,

    Praised be Jesus Christ!

Today is Catechetical Sunday. It is meant to focus our collaborative on its responsibility of Faith

Formation as we head into the new school year. Catechetical Sunday is also a wonderful opportunity

to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing down the faith and

being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves

to this mission as a community of faith.

I don’t have to remind you that this year is quite different. The Faith Formation Team of our

Collaborative, under the strong suggestion of the Archdiocese and my agreeing with them, have

planned for homebased catechesis. They have curated and introduced a homebased program

involving the entire family in the practice of the faith in the context of daily life. To begin the Faith

Formation Year, there will be a blessing of students and parents, Park ’n Pray style, at 4 PM today in

each parish’s parking lot. At St. Jude’s, the new Faith Formation Coordinator, Brendan Mahoney, as

well as Melissa Ross, St. Jude’s First Communion Coordinator, will introduce themselves. Those in

sacramental preparation years will be receiving learning materials.

When we are offered the opportunity to learn, it is hoped that a “love of learning” develops so that the

student eagerly wills to find out more. We pray that each our parents, with the support and

encouragement of the Faith Formation Team, may convey their love of Jesus and the importance of

knowing about him to their children. We also pray that they children find Jesus more and more as

they live their daily lives, regardless of the time we are living in.

Lastly, please do not forget about supporting the health care of the retired priests of the Archdiocese,

especially Monsignor Peter Connolly and Father Leroy Owens. They, as well as all of the retired

priests, have given so much. Please consider helping them through your support of the Clergy Health

and Retirement Trust, this weekend’s second collection.

    Gratefully yours in Christ,

    Fr. Steve

from This Week in Church Signs: “The Ten Commandments are not multiple choice.”

    QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK

    First Reading

While still in captivity in Babylon, Isaiah urged the Israelites to seek the Lord, for the Lord is near even in exile. When have

you felt the Lord’s presence in dark periods of your life?

    Second Reading

In his letter to the Philippians written from prison and toward the end of his life, Paul reflects on his spiritual dilemma

between life and death. How do you work through spiritual dilemmas?

    Gospel Reading

Jesus’ parable of the workers in the vineyard of the Lord offers us important insights into the Kingdom of Heaven and God’s

generosity. To whom do you think this parable is unsettling?

For the first time in its 12year history, the celebration will

Participating in this event provides a unique opportunity to

see the important work that our priests do every single day.

It also highlights how the Clergy Health and Retirement

    Have you ever thought about

becoming Catholic? Would you like to know more

about God and the Church? Or, are you already

baptized but still lack the Sacraments of

    Holy Communion and Confirmation?

If so, RCIA is for you! RCIA is a process of learning

about and experiencing the Catholic faith with

others in a friendly, smallgroup setting. It can lead to

full membership in the Church through the

Sacraments, but is also an openended process of

    asking questions and exploring.

Come, discover what you've been missing!

If you are interested or know someone

who might be, please contact Fr. Gregory directly

    or call our parish offices.

The Holy Eucharist has been placed in a

window on parish property so that

    parishioners can

be in the presence of and venerate our

    Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Please stop by, even if it may be in your

car, and take a moment to pray to our

Lord as you gaze upon him in the

    Holy Eucharist.

    Looking for Volunteers

We really appreciate all the volunteers that have come

forward to help with the cleaning and ushering at our

    Masses in both parishes.

We are in particular need of Ushers and Cleaners at

    St. Edward. Please consider volunteering.

Please email Mary Sheedy, [email protected]

    if interested in learning more.

40 Days for Life is a grassroots campaign of prayer and

    Solidarity Prayer for a Pandemic

May we who are merely inconvenienced

remember those whose lives are at stake.

May we who have no risk factors remember those

    most vulnerable.

May we who have the luxury of working from

home remember those who must choose

between preserving their health or making their

    rent.

May we who have the flexibility to care for our

children when their schools close remember

    those who have no options.

May we who have to cancel our trips remember

those that have no place to go.

May we who are losing our margin money in the

tumult of the economic market remember those

who have no margin at all.

May we who settle in for a quarantine at home

remember those who have no home.

During this time when we cannot physically wrap

our arms around each other, let us yet find ways

to be the loving embrace of God to our neighbors.
