Welcome to the Pre-Conference Career Expo!

On behalf of the Executive Board and members of the National Black MBA Association, Inc.,Washington, D.C. Chapter, I welcome you today to our Pre-Conference Expo.

This event serves as a precursor to our national association's Career Fair that will take place laterthis month from September 24-25, 2009 in New Orleans, Louisiana. While many nonprofitassociations and other membership-based groups struggle to develop a strategy of how to keeptheir members engaged in activities that will lead to new career opportunities, our chapter has takenthe lead in being proactive to assist our members who are transitioning during these hard economictimes. We have turned to corporations, such as the ones featured today who seek within theirrespective organizations a pool of talented individuals, such as yourself, who possesses theintellectual capital that will meet their needs. Therefore, I encourage you to meet as many of thecorporate representatives that you can, attend the plenary session, and take advantage of the servicesoffered to enhance your marketability.

I would like to thank our corporate partners Booz Allen Hamilton, Cox Communications, FreddieMac, Prudential, Sodexo, State Farm, and Volkswagen for being a part of this event. Additionally,I would like to thank the Washington, D.C. Chapters of the Association of Latino Professionals inFinance and Accounting, National Association of African Americans in Human Resources, andNational Association of Black Accountants, Inc. for collaborating with us on this event. Since ourchapter is run strictly by volunteers, we all must thank John James II, who leads our CareerDevelopment/Network efforts. For without John managing this event, we would not be here today.

The objective of the NBMBAA-DC Career Network is to connect the area’s most talentedbusiness professionals with the region’s most progressive companies and organizations. We hopeto connect local employers and candidates in advance of the National Conference and Expositionin New Orleans later this month.

In addition, given the current state of the job market, we have put together a series of workshopsdesigned to provide you with additional resources and strategies to give you a competitiveadvantage in the marketplace and bring you closer to your next career opportunity.
