Dear Student,

OUT for Work, the only national nonprofit organization dedicated to educating, preparing, and empowering lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) college students and their allies for the workplace, is proud to release the 2008 HOT List.

The first HOT List was published in 2007. The H-O-T in ‘The HOT List’ stands for Hiring Out Talent. It’s an index of organizations that brings together two elements that you are concerned with, who’s hiring and how inclusive are these work environments for LGBT employees. Using data from multiple sources and additional criteria developed by OUT for Work, each organization is rated on the level of anticipated entry level hires for the year and their workplace equality for LGBT employees. Using a formula, the combination of these factors then make up an organization’s HOT Rating. The HOT List rating scale consists of the following levels: HOT, HOTTER, and BURNING HOT. This year, out of 123 companies that made the list, 16 achieved our top rating of BURNING HOT. In addition, 24 new companies made it on the index.

We encourage you to use The HOT List as one of your resources when choosing a part time job, an internship, and ultimately a full time position upon graduation. Visit www.outforwork.org for more tools and resources. Sincerely,

Riley B. FoldsFounder/Executive DirectorOUT for Work
