Though only six years old, the women’s soccer program at Columbus State University is already developing a reputation for consistent achievement. After testing the water in their inaugural year, 2004, the Lady Cougars hit the ground running in 2005, initiating a four-year reign over the Peach Belt Conference regular season and paving the way for three straight PBC tournament championships. The PBC women’s soccer record book is littered with CSU names, including 21 All-Conference Team nominations, two Fresh-men of the Year and 17 Players of the Week at various positions. Since its inception CSU women’s soccer is repeatedly listed as the year-by-year PBC leader in all categories and holds numerous top records including most consecutive wins on the road, at home, and overall, as well as most assists, shots, goals and shutouts in a season. Seven individual season and career record holders and three All-Americans earned their titles at Colum-bus State. The 2009 team is favored to win the PBC title in a preseason coaches’ poll.In addition to boasting a procession of successful teams and individual players, CSU enjoys one of the finest soccer facilities in the Southeastern US, the Walden Soccer Complex. After its opening in 2007 the Walden Complex was hailed as the premiere soccer complex in the Peach Belt Conference. Dedicated to John and Rankin Walden, the field and facilities are a reflection of community generosity and the willingness to invest in all of CSU’s programs.

In 2009 the Cougars’ home field will see plenty of action, with nine home matches in

only two months’ time. Senior power forward Gina Goforth can be relied upon for persis-tent attacks on the opposite goal, coming off

the ‘08 season as PBC’s 9th in career goals scored. A very experienced junior class will

also lend their expertise to CSU’s pursuit of vic-tory this season, but perhaps the Lady Cougars’

most distinguishing feature is the large number of standout freshmen who will attest to the

emergent Columbus State tradition of stellar recruitment. Four defenders, three midfielders, one forward and a goalie will not only provide

excellent backup to their sixteen upperclassmen but will get starting time of their own to take their

toll on CSU’s opponents.Gina Goforth will be a top scorer for CSU in ‘09.

He also coached 2004 Olympic goalkeeper Kirsten Luckenbill and other World Cup stars to include Tiffany Roberts, Carla Overbeck and Danielle Fotopoulos. Prior to his tenure in the WUSA with the Courage, Entlich was a staff coach with the US Women’s National Team program. He coordinated player development, helped to identify and recruit players for the US Youth National Teams, and instructed in C and B license courses for coaches. He currently holds a USSF Class A coaching license. In his time as head coach at the University of Tampa (March ‘00 to January ‘02) Entlich earned Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year in 2001, worked as an instructor in the Physical Education department and headed up the Student Athlete Advisory Com-mittee. He compiled a two-year record of 23-15-0 for a program also in its infancy in the Division II ranks. Prior to Tampa, he served as an assistant coach at the University of Mississippi and was also a men’s assistant at his alma mater, Virginia Tech. As a four-year player for the Hokies, Entlich earned MVP honors in 1993, a year in which he was also elected team captain. He earned a BA in liberal arts in 1994.
