Mission Statement
We are proud to share that The Cara Program (TCP) and Mercy Housing Lakefront (MHL) have launched a joint venture social enterprise called Cleanslate Property Services (CSPS), designed to meet the local demand for property maintenance services for the growing number of homes in foreclosure in the city of Chicago.
We are very excited about the signifi cant business opportunities that CSPS can provide for TCP and MHL, and are particularly enthused about our growing ability to create jobs for individuals with signifi cant obstacles to employment, while assisting in the stabilization of many Chicago neighborhoods. CSPS will be able to provide all interns, including residents of MHL, with critical skills so that they may become active agents of change through the maintenance of foreclosed properties, and strengthen their employability in the process.
CSPS’s scope of services presently includes: ensuring the basic security of the home (e.g. installing front and rear entry locks, deadbolts,
and lockboxes); board-ups; janitorial services; maintenance and tidiness of the exterior and surrounding yard; snow removal and grass cuts; and winterization. Already, CSPS’s impact has been signifi cant. Since its launch in October, this new social enterprise has provided basic maintenance services to over 110 properties and fulfi lled 384 work orders, serving foreclosed dwellings primarily on the South and West sides of Chicago. We are thrilled by the response that we have received to this new venture so far and, if the fi rst few months are any indication, we anticipate that CSPS will have a signifi cant impact in many Chicago neighborhoods. Stay tuned for more updates over the coming year.
Cleanslate is a neighborhood beautifi cation business providing on-the-job training and transitional support services for students in The Cara Program who face signifi cant obstacles to employment.
