Issues

• Logistically, and practically the most structured way to add the additional minutes to the school day is to add to the existing master schedules.

• Schools change their bell schedule in the master schedule.

• Master schedule stays the same, just longer class periods.

• Adding an additional new class period onto the end of the day means completely changing master schedule and hand‐scheduling each student into the newly established class.

• We have so many different master schedules at the different schools, there is some flexibility in the ways the minutes can be added.  Our student system supports many options.

Financial Considerations

• Extending the school day and not add days to the end of the year would save transportation approx $16,500 per day.  (X 6 days = $99,000).

• Extending the school day and not add days to the end of the year would cost CNS approx  $63,250 per day.  (X 6 days = $379,500).

• Custodial, Grounds, Energy, etc., no difference.

• Overtime – WE have 285 7 ½ ‐ 8 hour employees at the sites –adding 45 minutes to the school day could cost (worst case) $13,035 per week.  X 13 weeks = $169,455.
