Dear Mr. Kell,
Thank you for your reply of 16 July. I'm very pleased to hear you dispel any perceptions thatthe UN Global Compact disapproves of the ISO 26000 project. ISO appreciates your supportand the contribution that the UN Global Compact has made in the development of thisStandard, including through your Local Networks. I concur that ISO 26000 will help tomainstream corporate responsibility on a global scale, and it will also provide harmonized, globally relevant guidance on social responsibility for private and public sector organizations ofall types. Your views regarding the ISO 26000 Annex are important and to be considered bythe Integrated Drafting Task Force in light of other comments received, and the path forwardestablished after the Working Group discussions in Quebec City. I am pleased that, on thewhole, you view that there is substantial consistency and complementarity between the current
draft of the ISO 26000 and the Global Compact ten principles.
Consistent with the mutually supportive approach embodied in our Memorandum ofUnderstanding, and as we approach publication of the Standard in 2010, I look forward todiscussing ways in which we can further cooperate on activities to promote and supportimplementation of the ISO 26000 Standard and the four topic areas of the Global Compactprinciples.
Thank you for your support and I look forward to our further positive collaboration.
Yours truly,
Rob Steele
