Gyrosensors detect hand-shake and an O.I.S. lens shifts to compensate,

helping prevent hand-shake blur. This system is completely optical – it does

not affect the CCD or image processing – so you get sharp, clear images

without deterioration. Choose from two modes. Mode 1 remains ON at all

times for continuous compensation. Mode 2 starts working as soon as the

shutter is released to achieve a greater effect. The new LUMIX models also

come with an Auto position that switches modes according to the zoom level.

luminance signal from the green

component of the incoming light.

Face Detection AF Mode The camera automatically detects the person's face. The focus can then be adjusted to fi t that face no matter what portion of the picture it is in.

Selectable AF Area While using 1-area, 1-area high-speed, Spot, or Multi-area AF mode, you can specify the area out of 11* AF areas. You can thereby enjoy free framing even with the subject not at the center. The new models let you set the AF area to any location within the frame. *9 AF areas for some models.

AF Assist Lamp For use in dim lighting, this lamp slightly illuminates the subject to help the AF system focus correctly.

Continuous AF The camera is always focusing, which reduces AF delays.

Manual Focus You can manually focus with the joystick or the focus ring. And you can also use the assist function, which either magnifi es to 2x the center area of the image shown in the LCD or enlarges the entire image. The larger image makes it easier for you to ensure that you have a sharp, accurate focus. You can also move the enlarged position up or down, or to the right or left. And in some models, pressing the "FOCUS" button once temporarily activates the auto-focus function, then returns to MF mode for fi ne manual adjustment.

Light Metering The light can be measured in three ways as a guideline for exposure: Intelligent Multiple, Center Weighted, or Spot. Simply switch the metering method to match the shooting scene or your shooting intent. *Some models offer Intelligent Multiple metering only.

White Balance Settings Choose from six preset white balance settings: Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Shade, Flash, Halogen, and White Set. This is handy when there are several different light sources and it's diffi cult to get the exact coloration you want. *White balance setting menu differs according to the model. For details, please see the specifi cations on pages 32-35.

White Balance Adjustment When it's difficult to get the exact coloring you want, you can add bluish or reddish tones in +/-10 steps of 150 kelvins each*. Some models let you make adjustments on both the red/blue axis and the magenta/green axis in +/- 9 steps. Some models also allow color temperature adjustment in a range of 2500 to 10000 K in 100-K intervals. *In Auto mode the white balance is determined automatically and cannot be adjusted.

ISO Sensitivity Settings You can choose the light-receiving sensitivity from Auto, I.ISO, 80, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, or 3200*.*ISO setting menu differs according to the model. For details, please see the specifi cations on pages 32-35.

When using ISO Auto mode, you can preset exactly the upper ISO limit that you want. This lets you shoot within the sensitivity range that you have set, to refl ect your intentions in particular shooting situations.

Extra Optical Zoom This function provides additional magnification, extending the zoom power by using the center part of the CCD. When compared with conventional digital zoom functions that directly enlarge the image data, it provides better image quality.

Flash Synchro You can use the flash function that has 1st curtain and 2nd curtain synchro settings to add effective nuance according to the scene. The 2nd curtain synchro activates the fl ash just before the shutter closes, making it appear that the light source is actually behind the subject.

Select Among 3 Aspect Ratios In addition to the conventional 4:3 image format, you can select the 16:9 or 3:2 format to suit the shot you're composing. 16:9 images are perfect for viewing on a wide-screen TV. *When using a plasma display to show 16:9 images recorded on an SD Memory Card, the images may not fi ll the entire screen.

Intelligent Auto mode automatically turns on the superb LUMIX technologies explained below, so you get perfect shots every time you shoot, in every situation.

Built-in gyrosensors detect even slight camera movement caused by hand-shake. The system then compensates for the shake so you get clear, sharp photos.

This system detects if the subject is moving as you shoot, and automatically adjusts the ISO setting and shutter speed accordingly to help prevent motion blur.

This function locates any faces in the photo and adjusts the focus and exposure to capture them correctly. This is especially helpful when shooting portraits.

This function automatically sets the camera to whichever of fi ve scene modes – Portrait, Night Portrait, Scenery, Night Scenery or Macro – is best for the situation.

The camera corrects the brightness in parts of the image that are too dark due to insuffi cient lighting, backlighting or use of the fl ash.

Red-Eye Reduction for the built-in flash uses the camera's internal image processing circuitry to minimize the red-eye effect.

Versatile AF Modes Choose whichever of up to fi ve auto focus modes best suits your shooting intention and subject: 1-area, 1-area high-speed, Spot, 3-area high-speed, 5-area or 9-area*.*AF area setting menu differs according to the model. Quick AF When the camera detects that you have assumed a shooting stance, it automatically begins focusing. Wide-Angle Shooting A wide-angle lens captures a wider photo area than a standard 35mm lens. This is a big advantage when you're trying to capture the grandeur of a sweeping landscape or massive building, or when you're in a small room trying to take a group photo.

Easy Zoom Button Press this button once and the zoom lens instantly extends to full telescopic. Press it twice and the Extra Optical Zoom also activates and extends to full telescopic. With this quick zooming, you're ready in an instant when a great opportunity arises.

Picture Adjustment Choose from four picture adjustment settings: Contrast, Sharpness, Saturation and Noise Reduction. Each setting can be individually set to Low, Standard or High.

MEGA BURST Consecutive Shooting The camera lets you snap off consecutive shooting at up to 3 frames per second* with full resolution. *The maximum number of frames varies with different models and settings.

Unlimited Consecutive Shooting The Unlimited Consecutive Shooting function lets you keep on shooting until the memory card is full. World Time Setting After you select one of 74 locations on the map, the camera automatically calculates and displays the local time.

Travel Date Setting Input the time and date of your departure before you leave home, then use the camera to capture all the best moments of your trip. When you view the photos later, the camera will display them according to the day of the trip each photo was taken.

Title Edit Using the cursor button on the camera, you can edit titles onto your images – people's names, places, events or other information.

Intelligent Auto Mode This mode not only helps eliminate blurring from hand-shake or subject movement, it also helps you capture perfect people shots by detecting the face and selecting the focus, exposure and scene mode that get the best results. And it's all automatic.

Macro Mode / Macro Button Use this mode to take incredible close-ups. You can focus on subjects within about 5 cm (0.16 ft) of the lens*. *1 cm (0.03

ft) for the FZ28 and LX3; when shooting with the lens in the wide-angle setting.

Tele Macro Set the zoom to maximum telephoto and you can take shots at a mere 1 m (3.28 ft) from the subject, with the background in soft focus.

Auto Mode The camera makes all the settings, you just aim and press the shutter button. Press and hold the cursor button to turn on the backlight compensation function.

Manual Exposure Mode You have full control over both the shutter speed and aperture.

Motion Picture Mode You can shoot smooth moving pictures at 30 frames/sec, complete with sound, in WVGA (848 x 480) or VGA size (640 x 480). Some models can also record motion pictures in high defi nition (1280 x 720p). When viewing the results, you will be suitably impressed by displaying 16:9 motion pictures on a large-screen TV.

Playback Mode After shooting, enjoy viewing your photos on your LUMIX camera's LCD. You can view them with various playback functions.

Custom Mode You can store in memory up to three sets of frequently used settings, such as the scene mode, white balance and AF and photometry modes. Later, you can instantly recall those settings by selecting Custom mode.

Clipboard Mode You can take photos of maps, timetables and other travel info. They are saved in a separate folder of the built-in memory to distinguish them from normal photos.

Self-Portrait Mode Aim the camera at yourself, wait for the LED to light up (indicating that you're in focus), and take the shot.

Food Mode Good for taking shots of special meals, this mode assures that colors are fresh, vivid and natural in all kinds of lighting.

Intelligent Mode Both MEGA O.I.S. and Intell igent ISO Control automatically activate, making it easy to take blur-free shots. Also in this mode, when you bring the lens close to a subject, the camera automatically switches to Macro mode (and notifi es you with a message on the LCD).

SCN (Scene) Modes

Normal Picture Mode (Program AE) The camera automatically determines the subject's brightness and sets the aperture and shutter speed accordingly. You can adjust the white balance, ISO sensitivity and other settings*. *These settings can be adjusted

in all modes except Simple and Motion Image modes.

Multi Aspect Mode The camera takes pictures in each of the three aspect ratios (4:3, 3:2, 16:9) in one go. And you can reproduce images shot with the lens set from wide end to tele end in any of three aspect ratios. *Image quality is automatically fi xed to [Standard].

Slimming Normal Stretching

Pin Hole Mode The light intensity at the periphery of the shot image is reduced to make the picture look as if it was shot with a pinhole camera.

Film Grain Mode This mode converts the image to a monochromatic picture and then enhances the contrast to create a fi lm grain effect.

Transform Mode You can expand or contract the image in the horizontal direction to create a different, fun photo. Expansion/contraction can be set in 5 steps.
