Water Logging We observed 18
wells in the given catchment and collected 2 well water samples.

Field Visit: Salinity Salts can be
observed on soil.

PPT Downloaded from http://www.pravinkolhe.com/
Field Visit: Crop Damage Damaged crops
are also observed at site

Field Visit: Sample Collection 24 samples of soil
were collected from 6 auger holes at following depths-
1. 0-20 cm2. 20-40cm3. 40-80cm4. 80-120cm

Tests on Soil and water Samples Tests on soil-
EC: Electrical Conductivity
pH Hydraulic
Conductivity Saturation Mechanical Analysis
Tests on water- EC pH
13
PPT Downloaded from http://www.pravinkolhe.com/
Test Results It is observed that
all the soil samples were saline. i.e. EC>3 and pH>8
The well and drain water is also saline with EC>3.

Demarcation of affected area The points are
marked on the given catchment map.
Based on EC values, contour lines were marked
The affected area is shown on the map
It is very difficult to demarcate the area with only 24 samples. The accuracy depends on the number of samples.
Remote sensing technique can be used to get more accurate results

Remedial Actions proposed Preventive measures
Sprinkler and Drip Irrigation
Crop Pattern and crop rotation
Leakage Prevention from canal
Proper land slope and drainage arrangement
Curative measures Cross drains Controlling Water
Table and Soil moisture
Soil Amendment Soil leaching Bio drainage

Remarks and future scope Proper drainage is essential
to avoid water logging It is difficult to demarcate
the area on map accurately. Cross drains may be
provided to reduce the discharge.
The adjoining land should be protected from water logging in future.
New techniques, like Remote sensing can be used to speed up work accurately.
Maintenance of existing drainage scheme is an important factor.
Cleaning of natural nalla. Involvement of farmers.
