Evanston, Ill. — Despite being on a 17-game losing streak, the Northwestern women’s basketball team gave MSU fi ts

Thursday night.While MSU is clearly the

better team, and the score, a 55-48 win, showed that,

it was not the kind of result the Spartans wanted heading into a Sunday showdown with No. 13 Purdue.

MSU turned the ball over 23 times — including fi ve each from MSU’s three starting guards — and allowed a team that shot 21.9 percent to get off with just a seven-point loss.

“I was disappointed that we couldn’t keep the intensity and fi re going,” MSU head coach Joanne P. McCallie said. “We gave some things back to Northwestern. We gave

them the chance to make miniruns. We have to work on our 40-minute focus and move on and reduce the turnovers, of course.”

Case in point: MSU turned the ball over fi ve times in the fi rst fi ve minutes, including on their fi rst three possessions, en route to fi nding itself down 11-2.

But for all of MSU’s struggles, the Wildcats were even more inept, hitting 8-of-36 fi eld goals in the fi rst half, allowing the Spartans to climb back and take a 29-22 halftime lead.

MSU then scored the fi rst 11 points of the second half to take a 40-22 lead and the game looked all but over.

Then something happened. The turnovers started to pile up at inopportune times as did the fouls, and Northwestern found itself heading to the free-throw line often. At one point, they scored eight straight points on six different trips to the line.

That, combined with a couple of baskets and the Spartans inability to put the ball in themselves, put the Wildcats down by only four, 48-44.

But by that point, time was not on Northwestern’s side.

The Spartans didn’t let the Wildcats climb any closer, scoring seven points at the line down the stretch to put the game away.

Sophomore guard Mia Johnson scored fi ve of those points and fi nished with 15 points.

“It is what it is,” McCallie said. “It was a good defensive effort, that’s what it was. It was a defensive ball game, nothing exciting about it and the folks at home didn’t miss much, that’s for sure.”

Senior guard Victoria Lucas-Perry fi nished with nine points and a season-high 10 rebounds. Kaitlin McInerney led Northwestern with 15 points and seven rebounds.

lite photos of houses, Zaio uses photographers to get the best picture possible of a house. Ex-perts analyze the photos for appraisals, Inserra said.

Though the corporation began taking pho-tos in Tucson less than 30 days ago, residents are beginning to notice photographers in front of their houses and others are concerned with what this could mean for their property value.

“It’s these kinds of practices that eat away our consumer rights,” said Carlos Gallego, an assistant professor in the English department and new homeowner.

Zaio is appraising houses in more than 170

U.S. cities and plans to take pictures of about 210,000 houses in Tucson.

“The ultimate goal is to photograph and ap-praise every house in the United States over the next five years,” Inserra said.

The order of the houses was chosen based on where the busiest loan markets were, or the places with high mortgage frequencies, he said.

Gallego said he understands why photo-graphing houses is a touchy issue, but the value of the information to businesses merits what could be construed as an invasion of privacy.

“I don’t like the idea of someone else having this information because it tends to tilt the dy-namics of power in favor of the corporations,”

Gallego said. “But it’s nothing new.”Members of city government are receiving

calls on legal issues of the project in reference to privacy rights, but it is not a city project, said city attorney Mike Rankin.

“There is no law that I’m aware of that they’re in violation of,” Rankin said.

Photographers do need to stay on public streets or sidewalks when taking pictures, he said.

“If they were peering over people’s backyards, that would violate privacy laws,” Rankin said.

Rankin sent out a memo to the mayor and council last week about the number of calls he has received about the matter in efforts to no-tify them about the corporation.

“This is a for-profit venture and it has noth-ing to do with the city,” Rankin said.

It takes Zaio photographers about 30 days to shoot 10,000 houses, and the corporation hopes to be finished with Tucson in six to 12

months, Inserra said.Zaio’s database will help companies quickly

access a consumer’s credit report. For example, a person who is facing foreclo-

sures needs to meet certain deadlines. Zaio’s appraisals can help that person meet a dead-line.

The information is primarily made available to banks and mortgage companies, Inserra said.

Homeowners who do not want their ap-praisal to appear online can visit the Web site and have the photograph of their home re-moved.

“There is no legal requirement that we do this,” Inserra said.

Despite the controversy, this type of service seems to be gaining popularity.

The company’s value has increased about 600 percent since it activated the service in August 2006, Inserra said.
