Assistant_CoachYouthful Squad Has Eyes Set On Postseason In 2007Q&A with Head Coach Luke OberkirchAfter advancing to the CCAA Tournament with a 10-3-3 conference record in ‘06, what is the team’s attitude entering the season?L.O.:__“I_think_the_team_attitude_is_very_good.__The_returning_players_have_brought_a_focused,_hard_working_attitude_to_training_camp_and_they_are_hungry_to_make_the_playoffs_again.”

How does the CCAA shape up in 2007?L.O.:__“The_CCAA_is_so_tough_that_I_expect_it_to_be_even_more_competitive_than_previ-ous_years.__However,_UC_San_Diego_is_still_the_best_team_and_everyone_is_looking_up_at_them.”

With so many seniors on last year’s team, what are some of the challenges this young team will need to confront early in the 2007 campaign? L.O.:__“The_biggest_challenge_this_team_year’s_team_faces_with_all_the_new_players_is_getting_them_to_understand_that_every_game_means_the_same.___Every_game_is_intense.__Team_chemistry_on_the_field_will_be_big_challenge_as_well.”

Which newcomers do you expect to step in and make a difference in 2007?L.O.:__“I_think_Ali_Cheadle_has_shown_that_she_can_do_some_good_things_in_the_attack._Courtney_Grixti_has_looked_good_in_goal.___Allison_Kern_is_very_fast_and_will_add_to_the_attack.__There_are_many_more_freshman_looking_good_too!”

What are some characteristics you have already seen in this year’s team from spring and summer training?L.O.:__“I_think_this_group_is_working_very__well_together_and_is_looking_like_it_has_the_desire_to_succeed.”

What are your expectations and goals for 2007?L.O.:__“The_goal_is_to_make_the_CCAA_playoffs_and_the_NCAA_playoffs.”
