31� The Buddha’s final passing away is commemorated in May, when this event is said to�have occurred. However, from what it says in the Mahæparinibbæna Sutta it seems�more likely that he passed away in January. In the Sutta, the Buddha declared, “Three�months from now I will pass away.” It was then near the end of the Rains, in October.�
