2005 ITtoolbox Data Warehouse Survey Sponsored by Oracle Introduction The 2005 ITtoolbox Data Warehouse Survey was conducted from October 24 to November 1, 2005. IT and business professionals worldwide participated in this online survey. Participants were recruited directly from the ITtoolbox network. Propelled by the success of the 2004 ITtoolbox Data Warehouse/Business Intelligence Survey, this year’s survey examined current data warehousing trends and the expected growth and changes in 2006. The survey results indicate movement toward more, larger data warehouses, increased budgets for 2006, and a steady growth in the size of data warehouses from year-to-year. This survey included specific questions such as: · How much of an increase in spending on data warehouses do you anticipate in the next 12 months? · Where will your company increase data warehouse budget spending? · Which data warehouse management system is your company using · What is your satisfaction level with the ability of your database to meet your company's data warehousing needs? · What are the most important capabilities(s) and feature(s) that you look for when purchasing a data warehouse management system? Of the 278 IT and business professionals who participated in the survey, over 57% work at large companies with more than 1000 employees. Only 9% indicated their organization is not utilizing a data warehouse. Over 43% expect at least a 10% increase in spending on data warehouses in the next 12 months. A large majority of respondents, 64%, indicated they currently have a data warehouse management system in place. Other findings include: · More than 45% of respondents expect up to a 49% increase in the size of their data warehouses in the next year · The majority of companies plan to increase spending on access tools (query, reporting, and OLAP) · More than 55% of respondents are satisfied with the ability of their current database to meet their data warehousing needs · High performance, capable reporting tools, and extensive extraction, transformation, and loading support were the top three capabilities and features that are considered when choosing a data warehouse management system
