McCollin averaged a team-best 14 points agame for the Women’s Open team at this past summer’sEmpire State Games in Binghamton, New York.

Back on Track, Part Two: Sophomore guard CigiMcCollin scored a team and game-high 19 pointsagainst St. John’s on December 1. McCollin played the first five gamesof that season before injuring her knee and red-shirting.

Back on Track, Part Three: Sophomore guard CigiMcCollin poured in a game and career-high 26 pointsagainst Loyola Marymount on December 28. Not onlywas it a career-high, but the 26 points were a season-high for a individual on the Pride roster this season andthe most points scored in a game since senior forwardAmaka Agugua scored 27 in an overtime loss toCanisius on November 30, 2003. Following her 14-pointeffort against Fairfield in the consolation game of the UMHoliday Classic, McCollin garnered All-Tournamenthonors after averaging 20 points, 6 rebounds and 3.5assists in the Pride’s two games at the tournament.

Double Figures: McCollin was the only member of thePride to score in double figures in each of Hofstra’s firstsix games this season. She has now scored in doublefigures in 15 of the 16 games she has played in thisseason, including nine straight and all seven of Hofstra’sCAA games she has appeared in.

Don’t Count the Pride Out: Beginning with last season, when Hofstra came back from second half deficits ineight of its 14 victories, the Pride has taken that a stepfurther in two of their victories this season. AgainstColgate and Sacred Heart, two teams that won 21games last season, Hofstra scored the game-winningbasket in the final two seconds of the contest. AgainstColgate on November 23, senior guard CharlotteBaldrey-Chourio drove the length of the floor and sankthe game-winner with 1.2 seconds left on the clock togive Hofstra a 71-70 win and then against Sacred Heartsophomore guard Cigi McCollin pulled down anoffensive rebound and layed in the game-winner withtwo seconds remaining to give the Pride a 67-66 win.The win over Sacred Heart ended the Pioneers 19-gamehome court winning streak, which was the seventhlongest in the NCAA coming into the contest. Whatmakes this two victories even more remarkable is thatboth Colgate and Sacred Heart won 21 games lastseason, as the Raiders went 21-10 and advanced to theNCAA Tournament, while the Pioneers earned a 21-8mark in 2003-04. Hofstra has now overcome secondhalf deficits in three of its seven victories this season asthey trailed 28-26 with 16:01 left in the second half of theHarvard game on December 17.

Senior Leadership: With just one senior seeing anyplaying time currently, Charlotte Baldrey-Chourio hasalready had to step up and make her presence felt.Trailing 70-69 in the waning moments of the homeopener vs. Colgate, Baldrey-Chourio calmly drove thelength of the floor in 7.6 seconds and sank the game-winner with 1.2 left on the clock to propel the Pride to itsthird straight home-opening victory. Baldrey-Chouriofinished the contest with a then career-high of 11 pointsand a then-career-high of six rebounds. Baldrey-Chourio had arguably the best game of her career atGeorge Mason on January 6 when she nearly pulled offthe rare triple-double with eight points, nine assists and10 rebounds. The assists and rebounding totals wereboth career-highs. Against William & Mary on January14, Baldrey-Chourio helped lead Hofstra to the road withwin career-highs of 14 points and five steals. Baldrey-Chourio came up huge once again for the Pride againstJames Madison on January 20, when, after being sick allday and not having eaten, she calmly sank two freethrows with 21 seconds left to give Hofstra a 55-54 winover the Dukes.

Gidden Earns CAA Accolade: Hofstra Universitysophomore center Vanessa Gidden was named theColonial Athletic Association Player of the Week onNovember 22, it was announced by the conferenceoffice. Home, Sweet, Double-Double, Home: Sophomoreforward Lizanne Murphy, who leads the Pride and theCAA with nine double-doubles this season, must reallyenjoy the friendly confines of Hofstra Arena. In each ofthe Pride’s first three home games this season, Murphytallied at least 13 rebounds, while notching two double-doubles. In Hofstra’s seven home games this season,Murphy is averaging 14.4 points and a team-high 12.4rebounds, led by her 22-point, 15-rebound effort againstHarvard on December 17.

Double-Doubles: Sophomore forward Lizanne Murphyhas already notched double-doubles in nine of thePride’s 17 games this season. Last season, Murphytallied just one double-double, a 16 point/10 reboundperformance at home against UNC Wilmington. Inaddition, Murphy’s 14 rebounds against Colgate onNovember 23 are tied for the 13th most in a single gamein Pride Basketball history. Murphy did herself onebetter when she pulled down 15 rebounds vs. Harvardon December 17, that total tied her for 11th most in asingle game in Hofstra Basketball history. Murphycontinues to amaze with her rebounding prowess as shepulled down a Hofstra season-high, a personal career-high and tied the CAA season-high with 17 rebounds atWilliam & Mary on January 14. That total is tied for thesixth most in a game in Hofstra history.

Hofstra, the Pride of Connecticut: In addition tosophomore center Vanessa Gidden’s success againstschools in her home state, the Pride as a team has wonsix straight games, including three this season, againstschool located in the state of Connecticut.

All-Tournament Accolades: Sophomore guard CigiMcCollin earned all-tournament honors at the UMHoliday Classic after she averaged 20.0 points, 6.0rebounds and 3.5 assists in the Pride’s two games at thetournament.

Unlucky 13: The number 13 has certainly producedsome bad luck for Hofstra this season…- During the Fordham game, the Rams used a 13-0 runmidway through the second half to take the lead andended up earning a 13-point victory, 62-49, over thePride on November 27.- Against St. John’s on December 1, the Red Stormdefeated Hofstra by 13-points, 83-70, to give Hofstra itssecond loss of the season.- In Hofstra’s game vs. Massachusetts on December 9,the Minutewomen also used a 13-0 run midway throughthe second half and rallied for a 64-57 win over thePride.

Odd, But True: Hofstra had three players with at least10 rebounds against Colgate on November 24 asLizanne Murphy and Vanessa Gidden each had 14,while Lana Harshaw pulled down 11. The last time thePride had three players with double figure reboundingtotals was on January 25, 2004 when those SAME threeplayers did it. In Hofstra’s 48-37 win over JamesMadison that day, Gidden had 13 rebounds, whileHarshaw and Murphy each chipped in with 10.

I’m in a New York State of Mind: Hofstra’s gamesagainst Colgate, Fordham and St. John’s marked astretch of three straight games against schools locatedin New York. Since 1993-94, it is only the second timethat the Pride has played three straight games againstNew York teams. Last season, Hofstra facedBinghamton, Canisius and Columbia in succession.

We Love our Charity (Stripe): In Hofstra’s 71-60 winover Fairfield on December 29, the Pride went 30-35(85.7%) from the charity stripe in the game. It was theirhighest percentage since shooting 84% (21-25) atVirginia Commonwealth on February 20, 2004. Inaddition, the 30 made free throws in the contest were themost for a Pride team since Hofstra sank 31 in a 97-95double overtime win over Wagner on January 6, 1993.

No Mas: If schools located in Connecticut did a littleresearch prior to scheduling Hofstra in the future, theymight want to wait until sophomore center VanessaGidden (Stamford, CT) finishes her career and stopsharassing her home state schools. In the Pride’s threegames this season against schools located inConnecticut, Gidden averaged team-highs of 17.7points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game in nearly30 minutes of action. She led the Pride to a perfect 3-0mark in those games, winning by an average of 9.4points per game against schools from the Nutmeg State.
