Faculty Margaret K. Durbas, ERYT500, AYS, is the director of the teacher training program and the owner of Journey of Yoga. Since 2003 Maggie has taught thousands of students in the Farmington Valley area. She is certified with Yoga Alliance through a 200hour training in Embodyoga and a 500hour teacher training in the lineage of Rod Stryker’s ParaYoga. She is certified as an Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist, and will be completing her Ayurvedic Health Counselor training in January, 2017. She is also a Reiki Master. She infuses her teaching with humor, joy, expertise, and compassion, enabling her students to thrive and grow under her care. Robin Kirsche has 30 years of experience teaching yoga, meditation, stress reduction and wellness. She currently works doing outpatient physical therapy in West Hartford, teaches yoga and teaches Anatomy and Physiology of the Yoga Teacher Training at Journey of Yoga. Robin spent seven years with meditation and yoga master Anandi Ma before living at Kripalu Yoga Center to become certified as a yoga teacher in 1987. She has also studied lyengar and Anusara. She is currently pursuing her 500 Hour YTT certification at Himalayan Institute in Honesdale, PA. Journey  of  Yoga  Teacher  Training    

Curriculum  The  following  topics  will  be  covered:  

 ØØ Asana  Techniques  –    Alignment   Principles,  

Adjustments,  Modifications,   Meditation,  Pranayama,  Mantras,  Bandhas  

ØØ Anatomy  and  Physiology  –  Pathology   and  Injury  

ØØ Yoga  History  and  Philosophy  –  Sanskrit,  Yamas  &  Niyamas,  Bhagavad  Gita,  Yoga  Sutras,  8  Limbs  of  Yoga,  Chakras  

 

This  200-­hour  Yoga  Teacher  Training  (YTT)  course  is  designed  to  provide  students  with  a   foundation  for  healthy,  holistic  and  joyful  living.  Students  seeking  to  become  teachers,  current  teachers  with  or  without  previous  training,  and  students  who  simply  desire  to  enhance  their  practice  and  deepen  their  overall  understanding  of  yoga  will  find  this  course  comprehensive,  inspiring  and  practical.  

 Our  program  is  certified  with  Yoga  Alliance.  Through  our  comprehensive  class  you  will  learn   to:  

 ØØ Deepen  your  own  practice,  enhance  your  

health,  and  be  present  in  your  life.  

ØØ Design  and  teach  classes  that   combine  an  overall  therapeutic  focus  with  a  safe  sequencing  of  postures.  

ØØ Integrate  sound  alignment  principles   and  provide  safe  adjustments.  

ØØ Provide  modifications  for  beginning,  injured,  or  intermediate  level  students.  

ØØ Develop  your  own  style  and  voice  by  accessing  the  teacher  within  you.  

ØØ Market  yourself  effectively  and  get  started  as  an   instructor.  

ØØ Teaching  Methodology  –  Vinyasa   Style,  Sequencing  Classes,  Lesson   Planning,  Assisting,  Student  Teaching  

ØØ Introduction  to  Ayurveda  –  Doshas,  Balancing  with  Asana  and  Nutrition  

ØØ Special    Practices  –    Restorative  Yoga,  Yoga  Nidra,  Women’s  Issues  (pregnancy,  menstruation  and  menopause)  

ØØ Business  of  Yoga  and  Yoga  Ethics  

Student  Requirements  In  order  for  our  students  to  get  the  most  out   of  their  training,  we  require  them  to  commit  to   the  following:  

§§ Attend  the  entire  9-­month  program.  §§ Daily  practice  of  asana,  pranayama  and  

meditation  for  minimum  of  30  minutes.  §§ Once  a  week  vinyasa  asana  class  at  JOY.  §§ Practice  yama  and  niyama.  §§ Write  regularly  in  sadhana  journal.  §§ Create  flashcards  for  learned   asanas.  §§ Write  several  1-­-­ 2  page  book  reports.  §§ Write  evaluation  of  one  yoga  class  you  

have  attended  between  each  session.  §§ Read  from  required   textbooks.  §§ Three  classes  assisting  another  teacher.  §§ Practice  seva  by  teaching  five  community  

classes.        Application  Process  To  apply  you  must  meet  with  Maggie  Durbas  to  discuss  your  interest  and  eligibility.  Following  the  meeting  you  can  reserve  your          place  with  a  completed  application  and  $250    deposit.  Please  note  that  deposits  are        nonrefundable  once  you  have  been  accepted                                into  the  program.  

Tuition  The  investment  for  the  200-­-­ hour  YTT  course  is  $3400  (includes  CT  sales  tax),  payable  by  cash,  check,  Visa  or  Mastercard.  Tuition  includes  materials,  books  and  a  weekend  at  the  Himalayan  Institute.    5%  Discount  Option:  Non-­refundable  deposit  of  $250  due  with  application  plus  $2890  by  April  1,  2017.    Payment  Plan  Option:  Non-­refundable  deposit  of  $250  due  with  application  plus  $450  by  April  1  and  6  payments  of  $450  due   the  15th  of  each  month  from  May  to  October.
