English teacher John Keating (Williams) takes learning to new heights with
the class he teaches at an exclusive prep school for boys. Taking cues
from Literature, he incites his class to live a life filled with passion and
inspires them to stand up for themselves. A group of students from his
class then form a literature club and call themselves the Dead Poets
Society.
3. The Color Purple (1985)
Starring: Whoopi Goldberg, Adolph Caesar, and Danny Glover
This movie tells us the life story of Celie Harris (Goldberg), an African
American woman who seems to have experienced nothing but despair,
suffering under the hands of first her abusive father (Caesar), then her
husband (Glover). Still, her life takes a turn for the better after she meets
two women who encourage her to stand up for herself.

4. The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)
Starring: Will Smith, Jaden Smith, and Thandie Newton
Chris Gardner (Smith) finds himself broke and homeless after putting all
the family savings into what turned out to be a bogus investment. His
marriage crumbles, and his wife takes off, leaving Chris to take care of
their son. Chris then decides to take a chance as an unpaid internstockbroker while he and his boy roam the streets for a place to stay.
Despite the emotional and physical strain, Chris keeps his head up, not
telling anyone at work about the condition of his finances. Based on a true
story, the movie reminds us of what we can achieve with determination
and hard work.

Two terminally ill men (Nicholson and Freeman) end up being unlikelyfriends as they trade life stories in the hospital room they share. They
soon turn their attention to things that they would like to do before they
kick the bucket; thus, their bucket list is born. Determined to live out
their remaining days without regrets, they go on a road trip to accomplish
everything on the list and end up coming to terms with their inner
struggles along the way.

surely move you to tears. Set during World War II, it tells the story of high-
spirited Italian Jew Guido (Benigni), who, along with his family, has been

Based on the inspiring true story of Hunter "Patch" Adams (Williams), the
movie is about a doctor and his efforts to make holistic wellness available
to his patients. He founded the Gesundheit Institute, a free hospital which
combines medicine, alternative therapy, performing arts, and a very
welcoming environment for his patients, changing the landscape of
medical care for the better.

10. I Am Sam (2001)

A developmentally disabled father (Penn) goes to great lengths to fight for
the custody of his intelligent young daughter (Fanning). As his
guardianship is questioned, he enlists the aid of a lawyer (Pfeiffer) to help
plead his case. In the process, the lawyer learns about love and family.

nods from award-giving bodies the world over. It tells the story of King
George VI of England (Firth), a monarch struggling with a stutter; the
moving devotion of his wife (Bonham-Carter); and the inspiring speech
therapist (Rush) who ultimately helps him find his voice.

14. Eat, Pray, Love (2010)

When Liz Gilbert (Roberts) takes a year off to go to a place where she can
just marvel at something, she ends up traveling to three different
countries all around the globe and finds herself in the process. This movie
reminds us that there is more to life than material things or financial or
professional success, and if we remember to stop and smell the roses, we
just might find it.

Every dream deserves a fighting chance, reads the tagline of thisuplifting film. Follow the life story of boxer "Irish" Micky Ward (Wahlberg),

storms in and out of the ring to emerge victorious.
