The reason we do palms this time of year is because the seed pods grow out and are messy and unsightly. Having your tree trimmed after the seed pods emerge ensures that you get a full year to enjoy a properly trimmed, clean tree. The Compliance Officer will start checking homeowner palm trees starting in July. PLEASE DRIVE 25! Please remember the SPEED LIMIT in Cottonwood and Palo Verde is a maximum of 25 MPH. Why? Because we have walkers, pets, bikers, and golf carts on our roads and we all want to be safe. Some of us still work, so we must be somewhere on a schedule. TIME FOR MOSQUITO PREVENTION The best way for residents to protect themselves from mosquito-borne illness is to reduce the number of mosquitoes around the home and take personal precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Mosquitoes are more than just a nuisance. Sometimes mosquitoes carry diseases such as West Nile Virus.

The Maricopa County Vector Control office advises that the best thing each of us can do to protect ourselves and our families from this and other mosquito-related diseases is to prevent getting bit by mosquitoes and to eliminate breeding sites on our own property. Here are a few tips from the Maricopa County Vector Control office on ways to eliminate mosquito breeding and reduce the risk of bites:

Eliminate standing water where mosquitoes can breed.

Check for items outside the home that collect water, such as cans, bottles, buckets and other containers.

Change water in flower vases, birdbaths, planters and animal watering pans at least twice a week.

Repair leaky pipes and outside faucets and move air conditioner drain hoses frequently.

Avoid being bitten by mosquitoes when going outside at night by using insect repellant with DEET. Wear lightweight clothing that covers the arms and legs.

Everyone is responsible for eliminating and preventing mosquito breeding on their property. At Cottonwood Palo Verde, we take a proactive approach by keeping our lakes aerated. We have also placed Gambusia fish in all of our lakes. The Gambusias eat mosquito larvae. -Management

FITNESS ACTIVITY CENTER UPDATE In early May, the Plan of Development (POD) for the FITNESS ACTIVITY CENTER was submitted to the

Maricopa County Planning and Development Department. The POD is made up of nine (9) separate

categories with 57 individual required documents. This submittal is the first one required by the County.

Arizona law allows the County a 90 working-day approval time frame. It is hoped that this may be reduced

somewhat. Architect Ken Eller has put the finishing touches on the construction plans which will be

submitted after the POD is approved. We are still on schedule to begin construction in the late Fall 2018.

Stay tuned to The Flyer and ‘In The Know’ for developing news.

PAST DUE ASSESSMENTS Please remember, if you did not select an option and did not make your first payment for the Fitness Activity Center by April 30, 2018 you are now delinquent. Accounts that are delinquent will be sent a late notice with penalties. Per Board Policy 4-05, accounts that are delinquent 180 days will cause litigation to be initiated in order to resolve the delinquency. All collection costs will be the responsibility of the member.

GET INVOLVED IN YOUR COMMUNITY-VOLUNTEER TO BE ON A COMMITTEE We are currently seeking homeowners to volunteer for the 2018-2019 committee year that commences November 1

st. Committee Member Application Forms are available at the Administration Center or can be

downloaded from our website: www.cottonwoodpaloverde.com under "Downloadable Forms." Completed forms must be returned to the Administration Center by Friday, September 14

th.

The Association has nine standing committees that support the Board of Directors: Architectural Compliance Facilities & Grounds Golf Audit & Finance Election Recreation Communications Food & Beverage Safety, Security & Access

Tenure on committees is limited to two years. If you are finishing your first term on a committee and plan to reapply for a second term, you must complete and turn in a new application.

NOTE: Applicants are encouraged to select more than one committee preference so that they can be considered by multiple committees. Committee meetings are typically held on a monthly basis, although some committees do not meet during the summer months. Current Committee meeting dates, times and locations are posted on the website and in The Flyer.

In the following weeks, we will highlight the individual committees in The Flyer.

COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE The Communications Committee was established to provide the Board of Directors and HOA Management with input and recommendations reflecting the needs and desires of the Community. It supports Management’s communications vehicles, namely "The Flyer," "In The Know," and the HOA Website. Other activities include the Ambassador Program, management of the HOA Library, the weekly collection of the White Comment Cards and Restaurant Comment Cards including summary reports to Management and the HOA Board, and maintaining the History of the HOA. It assists the Board and Management in the completion of the mechanics of any required presentations or publications. The Communications Committee encourages everyone to get involved in their Community. Consider volunteering on the Communication Committee and obtain an application at the HOA Administration Center or from the Website. The Communications Committee will have openings for the 2018-2019 committee year. The Communications Committee meets the first Monday of the month at 8:30am in the Ceramics Room. Even though the Committee will not meet during the summer, their work goes on and the reports are maintained. We hope you will consider the Communications Committee as your first choice and submit an application!
