Mister Seahorse

Mister Seahorse Activity Page (preferably on heavy paper), shaving cream or whipped

topping such as Cool Whip®, food coloring, paper plate and/or baking sheet, spoon, scissors

Visit: Mister Seahorse to watch by Eric Carle. Print the Mister Seahorse Activity Page and cut out the seahorse. Squirt shaving cream (or whipped topping), enough to fill the bottom on a paper plate (or shallow container such as a baking sheet). Use a spoon to spread the shaving cream evenly. Let your child choose two-three colors of the food coloring to add. (Just a few drops will do.) Use a spoon to lightly mix the shaving cream and colors together (creating a swirls). When your child is satisfied with their “look,” have him/her gently press their seahorse into the cream mixture and count to ten. He/she will then lift the seahorse and use a spoon or cardboard square to rake off the excess shaving cream, creating a marbled pattern. (See Mister Seahorse activity page pictures for an example.) Allow it to completely dry.

Triangle Shape PracticeTriangle Shape Practice activity page, pencil, crayon, or marker

Print the Triangle Shape Practice activity page. Have your child trace the large triangle, then trace the word “triangle.”

Surprise Flower

Paper towels, washable markers, permanent marker (such as a Sharpie®), dish or bowl with

water

Fold over a sheet of paper towel in half. Draw a flower with the black permanent marker. (Use a permanent marker so that the black marker will not bleed.) Press hard or go over the lines a few times so that it bleeds through to the second layer of the paper towel. On the bottom layer, have your child color the flower with washable markers. (Use washable markers here so that it will bleed through to the top layer.) Fold the paper towel back so the black marker (no colors) is on the top and the colors are on the bottom. Now it is ready to drop in water! Add some water into a dish or bowl. Drop the paper towel into the water and watch the magic! Your flower will appear before your eyes. (See Surprise Flower activity page for pictures of the steps described above.)
