NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN ANIMAL OR PLANT PRODUCTION
enrol now for 2021
THE FUTURE IS HERE > > >
Agri Skills Transfer has been offering the National Diploma in Agriculture since 2012 on a distance
learning basis. Several students have completed the programme since then.
TRAINING, PRACTICAL, AND WORKPLACE
EXPERIENCE > > >
Students will have to complete theory (self study, assignments) and practical (workplace experience) to
gain competency in animal or plant production.
Students can do all the theory themselves (at home) or
they can join our contact sessions on our Cullinan Farm. Training sessions will be according to a schedule,
generally one week per month (Monday – Friday),
booking for these sessions are essential.
Choose one of the following:
National Diploma: Animal Production SAQA ID 49011, NQF Level 5
National Diploma: Plant Production SAQA ID 49010, NQF level 5
Students can attend the monthly sessions as part of their training. During these sessions students will get
the necessary support for their assignments that form part of their Portfolio of Evidence (PoE). Students will
have the opportunity to work in groups during these sessions.
Alternatively, students will have unlimited support via email during their 2-year course.
It is recommended that you find yourself a practical
site close to home to do your workplace experience at.
This can be at various farms over the two years in your area where you obtain further skills. Once you are a
registered student, we will provide you with a letter in this regard to assist you with finding other workplace
options.

LOGBOOK > > >
All National Diploma learners must complete a
logbook to keep record of their practical experience.
It is essential that you start your logbook as soon as you start doing your practical.
Logbooks are completed daily.
As adult learners it is your responsibility to keep your logbook up to date and to get the necessary
person/s to sign if off.
You must log 14 months of practical during your 2-
year course.
Learners who do not have a formal workplace will be able to register for the Diploma if you commit to a
combination of the following practical guidelines during your 2-year course:
Learners will be able to make use of the Agri Skills Cullinan Farm Training Centre, to do practical on
weekends and public holidays.
Learners, who have space in their backyard, can
start a small animal or plant project (piggery, poultry, aquaculture, hydroponics, herb growing,
beekeeping, aquaponics etc.). These projects will serve as practical and students will keep logbooks
on their projects.
Learners can work on family farms.
Learners can work overseas in the agricultural
industry.
Learners can get involved in Agricultural
Community Projects.
Learners can also log visits to livestock auctions, farmer’s days, information days at different
companies, as well as any other educational
events.

career in agriculture.
