2 Samuel 2 1 And it came to pass after this, that David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the LORD said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron.
After Saul was dead, David thought it might be time to go home.
So he prayed:Should I go and where should
I go.

When we really want to know the Lord’s Will, He will lead us in His Path.
Willing
5
By this time David had many more than his band of six hundred men. 1 Chron 12:22
He took his two wives, all his men, and their families with him to dwell in the cities of Hebron.
6
4a And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah.
Hebron
15 years since Samuel first anointed David king.
7
The people told David about the men of Jabesh Gilead and their rescue of the bodies of Saul and
his sons from the Philistines.
David blessed them!
David blessed them!He brought them into his circle of friends.
8
At the same time Saul’s Uncle Abner set up Saul’s
remaining son Ishbosheth as king over all the other tribes.
Ishbosheth was 40 years old and reigned two years.
David reigned 7.5 years over Judah before he became
King of all Israel.
9
Abner and Joab (David’s general) led their armies to
Gibeon for battle.
Abner suggested that they each choose 12 champions to fight the battle; Joab agreed.
10
David’s champions were winning big.
Killing machines with swords or daggers.
Both armies jumped in but it was a rout with Joab’s men chasing Abner and his men.
Joab’s younger brother Asahel was chasing Abner.
Abner warned him to go to someone else.
Experience counts!
11
24 Joab also and Abishai pursued after Abner: and the sun went down when they were come to the hill of Ammah, that lieth before Giah by the way of the wilderness of Gibeon. 25 And the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together after Abner, and became one troop, and stood on the top of an hill.
Now Joab and Abishai were facing an army.
12
Abner hollered at Joab, “Ain’t there been enough killing today?”
“How long will you chase us?”
Joab said, “All night, if you hadn’t stopped.”
Cease-fire
13
Abner and his men walked all night returning to Mahanaim.
Joab and his men took time to bury Asahel in the family tomb at Bethlehem.
And then returned to Hebron, arriving at the break of day.
14
Joab lost nineteen men plus Asahel.
Abner lost 360 men in the battle.
15
Abner was on the wrong side of the Plan of God.
He was loyal to Saul and wanted the kingdom to continue under the house of Saul.
He was Saul’s uncle, so it was a family thing.
Folks say that blood is thicker than water, but I say to you today, “Spirit is stronger than blood.”
16
We want to always be on God’s side.
We can’t bring Him to our side when we want to.
We have to get on His side every time.
To be on God’s Side means to walk in God’s Will, doing all that He tells us to do.
17
John 15 (Jesus) 12 This is My Commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. 13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
There is a closer relationship than to be merely saved and satisfied.
There is friendship and fellowship with our Lord.
It comes through willing obedience.
18
…John 14:16 Ye have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in My Name, He may give it you. 17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.
All that Jesus will ever command will flow out of love for God and love for one another.
Walk in victory just as King David did.
