Sleep and teenagers1 PAIRS. Discuss this question:
Do you usually feel tired or sleepy in class? Why?
2 Read the text.
Do You Have Trouble Sleeping?
Parents are puzzled how their teenagers can stay up all night, and teachers wonder why their students are falling asleep in class. Researchers have come up with an explanation. The sleep patterns of teenagers differ from those of adults or young children!
Studies show that during the adolescent years, the body’s internal biological clock is temporarily reset, telling a person to fall asleep later and wake up later. This change in rhythm seems to be due to the fact that the brain hormone melatonin (which helps you sleep) is produced later at night for teens.
This change in a teenager’s body rhythm is difficult because it coincides with the period of the day when a teenager is very busy with his or her activities. Early start times in many schools also contribute to the sleep deficit, especially for teenagers who go to bed after midnight and have to get up early for school.
Here are some ways that can help teenagers sleep better:1. Go to bed at a regular time. 1. Go to bed at a regular1. GGo to bed atat a rereggulgulullarar a timtiimimeme.. Some songs remind us of someone or of certain experiences in the past. For example, “Unchained Melody” in the 1990
lasting true love between two people even when one of them dies. The memories songs bring up are usually very personal. In a blog discussion, Tom A. wrote that Symphony X’s “Paradise Lost” reminds him of a girl he met while on vacation in Florida. She was about to give him her telephone number but his mother came to pick him up, and the girl walked away. Henever saw her again.
The memories associated with certain songs can be either good, bad, happy, or sad, depending on the circumstances when we heard them. For example, if “My Heart
