This image is shot in black and white to illustrate the texture and tone of the image, the emotion the viewer is enhanced by having a lack of colour as the image feels drained of energy or life, the composition of the image focuses on the perspective of the woman who is playing her instrument and facing the crowd, the image portrays what it feels like to be in this position. I like this image as it would show the target audience a piece of their town/city something that they would normally take for granted as a fresh perspective.

This image captures an ironically pitiful image of the collapse of a building. The colours are very bleak and dark as to show the degradation of the building is shown in the shadows, as the rust can be seen working its way through the sign ‘BEAUTY’, I love the tonal range in the colours of this shot the deep dark reds of the word ‘BEAUTY’ contrast with the light grey rubble and grey brick, the image if it were a part of my project would show the community how in need of help and support it is.

This image is shot in black and white because of the textures, shapes and lines, the composition of this image uses leading lines to draw the eye to the subjects along them, and to pay attention to the small details as the eye brushes past them. I love this image as it is a beautiful image of a hidden away alley or street that would be a new sight for some people when viewing from an outsiders perspective, this could lead more people to the place and aid in my target audience appeal.

This image shows the depth of field really well without using a lower f number. It also creates the idea of a far off place chained off from the photographers experience, the birds flying towards the salvation creates a look of disparity and sadness. This image was created using a Nikon f3 and Ilford Hp5. This image creates a fresh scene with perhaps a new perspective or look on an old place or even a frequent place, composed with what I assume is emotion and detail in mind.

Research Evaluation

Page 24: 2. research...

Research Evaluation• Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the strengths and

weaknesses of each method – Product Research

• The product research allowed me to analyse some of my favourite photographers work and gain some fresh ideas of what I could do.

• The products were most likely built for another project however not too dissimilar to mine, but they are different in minor ways, that could affect the end result of my product, for instance, the target audience could be different and viewing the elements of these images could change my view on some old thoughts.

– Questionnaires• The questionnaires helped to build an idea of what people would like to see from my work, and give me an idea of some

of the things that people would like to see in my work.• The people who took the questionnaire might not have the same passion as me for photography so their opinions and

knowledge might be different or lesser than mine, so the result might be slightly hard to follow or just impossible to capture with the resources that I have available to me.

– Interviews• The interviews allowed me to expand on previous work that I had already done, and helped me find specific things that

people would also like to see in my work, which helped to build a profile of what and who I should include in my target audience and final project.

• People might have had some strange ideas on what to do for my project and it might not have been possible to do some of them, to clarify, some people might say to take a photograph from the top of a building or with a really detailed highly priced camera.

Page 25: 2. research...

Research Evaluation– What sort of a response did you get?

• A mostly positive one, most people had a similar passion for photography as me so it was easy to understand some of peoples points and opinions and put them to use. However some of the answers were very different to my intended audience so the profile that I created might not achieve the same desired result as distributing the survey slightly more publically.

– How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantageUsed classmates and friends to take my survey.• Advantages:

– The advantages of distributing my survey this way was that it was fast and simple to spread it quickly and get answers in a relatively short time period, also the people in the class understood the questions easy as they would understand some of the terminology better than someone who wasn’t doing media or photography, this aided in creating a profile much faster.

• Disadvantages:– The people who took the surveys weren’t my intentional target audience as the distribution only allowed realistically for a younger target

audience as this was who was in the class and were friends of mine. This means that when creating a profile some of the ideas might wrongly influence some of the final pieces.
