2 nd – 6 th Rockstars March 3 - 7 Weekly Reminders 4th Grade Literacy – In Literacy class students will continue to learn comprehension skills and strategies to become better readers. This week students will learn and understand elements of drama, which is a continuation of our Poetry and Prose Unit. 5th Grade Literacy - In Literacy class students will build upon their prior knowledge of comprehension skills and strategies to become better readers. This week students will be able to identify elements of poetry, prose, and drama. Such as, text structure, stanza, and much more!!! Please continue to memorize multiplication facts. 3rd Grade Math - My third graders will be adding and subtracting money and problem- solving. We will also continue to work on multiplication and division. Please continue to memorize multiplication facts. 2nd Grade Social Studies - My 2nd grade class will be studying about immigration and citizenship. 3rd Grade Social Studies - My 3rd grade class will be having lots of fun studying about the life of the Vikings. 4th Grade Social Studies - My two 4th grade classes will be studying about the Civil War and the life of a soldier during this war. 2nd and 3rd Grade Literacy This week in our literacy classes we will be completing a unit to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday! Throughout the week we will focus on rhyming words, adjectives, alliterations, and identifying theme. 2nd Grade Science I can explain how plants grow and change. I can describe how certain body parts help animals survive. 3rd Grade Science I can describe how simple machines help do work. I can describe what electrical energy is. I can explain how electrical energy is created.

BowenMath/Science

We are working on word problems and developing strategies to help us break them apart and understand what operation of math we are being ask to perform.

LanguageStudents in grades 2-4 are writing persuasive letters.  Each level is to a different degree.  Please ask your child what the parts of a friendly letter

are and have then act out our little demonstration to help them remember.

Math - This week in Math we will finish up working on Real World problems involving fractions. We will assess Tuesday or Wednesday over our fraction unit. We will begin Decimals after our assessment.

Science - This week in science we are beginning our unit on the Solar System. We will be

learning about gravitational pull, planets, the sun and moon phases.

Writer's Workshop5th grade will begin our Opinion Writing Piece. 6th grade will start an Argument Paper. We look

forward to the new concepts we will learn.

Daily FiveThe topic of the week is Generalization. Ask your child daily, "what does generalization mean?" We

have finished our book/video study of "The Miracle Worker". Looking forward to great things in reading.

Social Studies  I can explain how the "Bill of Rights" is like a shield that protects individual rights.

I can describe key rights protected under the Bill of Rights.

5th grade MathI can divide tenths and hundredths by a whole number.

I can round quotients to the nearest tenth or hundredth.

I can divide tenths and hundredths by multiples of 10, 100, and 1000.

I can estimate decimal sums, differences, products, and quotients.

Students will be plotting coordinate pairs in order to create a polygon. They will then calculate the area and perimeter of that shape. They will also use the coordinates to evaluate the length of the sides and distance from points. Our Number of the Day will continue to review concepts as well as introduce

new concepts.
