MARY’S MAGNIFICAT
My soul proclaims the greatnessof the Lord, my spirit rejoices inGod my Savior for he has lookedwith favor on his lowly servant. From this day all generations
will call me blessed: the Almightyhas done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those whofear him in every generation. He has shown the strengthof his arm, he has scatteredthe proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mightyfrom their thrones, and has liftedup the lowly. He has illed thehungry with good things, andthe rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help ofhis servant Israel for he
remembered his promise ofmercy, the promise he madeto our fathers, to Abrahamand his children forever.

Today is the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Our first reading is from the Book of Wisdom, which presents the tension between the Just and the Wicked. The evil that lurks in the heart of man is expressed with; “let us test the Just One by condemning him to a shameful death, for according to his own words, God will take care of him.” Beware; the Evil One wants to weaken the faith of the Just by proving that they cannot depend on the Lord to save them. Today more than ever, according to Saint James, our hearts are corrupted; “by selfish ambition, jealousy, envy, disorder, inconsistency, insincerity, conflict, war and every foul practice, so that you cannot obtain what you ask for. You do not receive, because you ask wrongly.” Sin is generated by an unclean heart, filled with much of the above. Saint James goes on to tell you that wisdom comes to those who cultivate Righteousness and Peace. What about you? Is Peace with “ALL OTHERS” one of your goals? Are you working on your own purity of heart? In today’s gospel Jesus gives a lesson on Humility, as He finds even the Apostles jockeying for that spot of “Greatest”. Christ sets them straight saying; “if anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and servant to all.” PRACTICING HUMILITY GETS YOU TO FIRST BASE WITH JESUS, THEN ……….. A HOLY HOME RUN INTO HEAVEN!!!!!! Would you like to become Catholic or complete your Sacraments? Please call Carol Mangani at 973-283-2218.

First Reading: Wisdom 2:12, 17-20 Wicked people discuss their anger at the just one, because they do not like being reproached for their evil ways. They want to see if he is the Son of God, so they decide to torture him and see if God will come to defend him. They decide to condemn him to a shameful death and see if the claims are true that God will take care of him. Second Reading: James 3:16—4:3 James discusses the importance of avoiding jealousy and strife. People should strive for peace and justice instead of concentrating on material pleasures which can tempt people to sin to obtain whatever they desire. Gospel: Mark 9:30-37 Jesus again attempts to prepare his disciples for his death and resurrection, although they do not yet fully understand. They had been arguing over who was the most important one, but Jesus tells them whoever wants to rank first must be willing to remain a servant to all. He also tells them that anyone who welcomes a child in his name welcomes both him and God.
